ASSIGNMENT GUIDE FOR BDM ASSIGNMENT 2

TASK 3.1 Produce graphs using spreadsheets and draw valid conclusions based on
the information derived and TASK 3.2 Create trend lines in spreadsheet graphs to
assist in forecasting for specified business information

To answer task 3.1 and 3.2, use the case under Task 3: Riekers Human
Resource Department.
Calculate the moving average using 4 quarters (an even number period of
time) as well as the seasonal variation
Create a line graph, combination of line and bar graph, bar graph to show the
trend lines for actual data, moving average and seasonal variation.
Use the additive method of forecasting to predict sickness absence for the
first two quarters of 2016
Create another line graph showing the trend line for moving average of
sickness absences including the forecast for 2016
Give your analysis and conclusion based on the calculations made
and graphs shown.
Include your analysis, conclusion and recommendations on the case
in your report under Task 3.3 and 3.4

TASK 4.1 Use appropriate information processing tools

Use the case under Task 4: Riekers Project Management and Finance
Departments.
Discuss the types of information and the information system required for
each type.
Explain what type of information system should be used in the given case.
Give your reasons.

TASK 4.2 Prepare a project plan for an activity and determine the critical path

Use the case under Task 4: Riekers Project Management and Finance
Departments
Draw a network diagram (activity on arrow) for the project with the earliest
and latest event times, event number, duration, and identify the critical path.
Explain your work.
Create a Gantt Chart showing the labour or resources required for the project
and explain it.
Give your advise to the project leader whether an extra labour cost should be
paid or not.
Show also screen shots of the Gantt Chart using the WBS software.
Include your analysis, conclusion and recommendation on the case in
your report (under Task 3.3 and 3.4)

TASK 4.3 Use financial tools for decision making

Use the case under Task 4: Riekers Project Management and Finance
Departments
Calculate the payback period, net present value and IRR for the given
investment opportunities.

For each of the financial tool used, advise the Finance Department on which
investment project should be chosen. Explain your reasons.
Include your analysis, conclusion and recommendation on the case in
your report (under Task 3.3 and 3.4)

TASK 3.3 Prepare a business presentation using suitable software and techniques
to disseminate information effectively and TASK 3.4 Produce a formal business
report

To answer task 3.3 and 3.4, use the case under Task 3: Riekers Human
Resource Department and Task 4: Riekers Project Management and Finance
Departments.
Make a formal business report as Junior Data Analyst addressed to the
Director of the Corporate Support Group of Riekers. Your report must be both
in narrative format and presentation format. For the narrative format, use
Microsoft Word (or any similar software) and for the presentation, use
Microsoft Powerpoint (or any similar software).
Make a report about your analysis, conclusion and recommendations
on the cases given.
Use appropriate software (such as use of spreadsheets) and techniques (such
as use of graphs and tables) to make your report clear, interesting and
informative.
Use the necessary formula in Microsoft Excel in making your report. Save
your report file in a disc, put the disc in an envelope and attach it in the bind
copy of your assignment.
Follow the correct guidelines in making your narrative report and
presentation.
