The Normal Christian Life

Part 3
The Cross
• The BLOOD for forgiveness
• The CROSS for deliverance
• 2 aspects of resurrection:
– 1. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him
who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who
was delivered up because of our offenses, and
was raised because of our justification. Ro.4:24-25
– The subject here is us and our standing before
God
– 2. Therefore we were buried with Him through
baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also
should walk in newness of life. Ro.6:4
– Here the matter is our STATE before the Lord
– Our standing brings us peace WITH God-Ro.5:1
– Our state has to do with finding peace WITHIN as we
fight the battle raging within spoken of in Ro. 7.
– The answer is found in Ro.8 “in Christ”
• We were “made” sinners by way of Adam-the
fact we were “in him” when he sinned Ro.5:12
• The same way Levi was “in” Abraham when he
paid tithes to Melchizedek (Heb.7)
• Our experience is bound up by our father—if
your father died when he was 3 you died with
him.
• As in Adam so also in CHRIST! Ro.5:19
• “ For as by one man’s disobedience many were
made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience
many will be made righteous.”
• How are we “made” righteous?
• We enter sin through birth(Adam) we find
deliverance through death—as we enter
through His(Christ’s) substitutionary death
• When Christ died we died “with” Him
• What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin
that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How
shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or
do you not know that as many of us as were
baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him
through baptism into death, that just as Christ
was raised from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in newness
of life Ro.6:1-3
• This is not us trying to “kill” ourselves but the
realization of how God dealt with us in Christ.
• 1 Corinthians 1:30
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who
became for us wisdom from God—and
righteousness and sanctification and
redemption—
• God placed you IN Christ when you believed
• Romans 6:11
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be
dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
• Our “life” in Christ is tied to His “death”
• Ro.6:8Now if we died with Christ, we believe
that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing
that Christ, having been raised from the dead,
dies no more. Death no longer has dominion
over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He
died to sin once for all; but the life that He
lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also,
reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin,
but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord
• The cross was in order to shed His blood FOR
man, but His death on the cross was to BREAK
sin’s power over our lives
• Two-fold nature of the work is found in
identification and subsitution
• Isa.53 quite clearly states WHY Jesus died and
WHAT was the result
• MIGHTY IS THE POWER OF THE CROSS
