Teachers Disposition

I believe teachers must possess particular qualities in order to successfully teach and interact
with parents, faculty members, administrators and diverse students from different cultures,
academic ability and religion. These qualities make up the teacher’s disposition which is
portrayed to students and colleagues through the teacher’s attitudes, behaviors and
characteristics. The teacher’s disposition qualities consist of values, commitments, professional
ethics, professional characteristics and personal characteristics.

I learned from my involvement as a parent of a child in elementary and middle school that it
takes many values such as time management, energy, thought, planning, organizing, dedication,
commitment, knowledge, support and caring to help children learn expected academic material
through the years. Teachers must be fair, focused, helpful, organized and aware of the time
constantly in order to give each student the proper amount of time needed for each lesson.
Teacher must take time to know their students strengths and weaknesses in order to capitalize on
their learning. This can be done by informal and formal assessments, either by just observing,
keeping a portfolio of the students progress, homework and test grades. Each student should
receive constructive feedback regularly to help maintain their learning status.

Commitment and support from parents, teachers, school administration and the local
community will help build stronger relationships which will promote student achievement. The
teachers and students environment must be free of stereotyping, negativity, and foster open and
positive criticism in order to promote constructive relationships with children to improve their
level of education. If a student can honestly see the support, I believe it will make them an
overall better student. Everyone must share a common goal in order to create an environment
filled with enrichment, fun, growth and success.

Teachers must also possess professional ethics in order to promote high levels of learning.
This can be done by supporting student’s emotional, physical and social needs and respecting
their identity. Students need to feel like they can trust their leader and feel they are developing

and growing in a safe, respected and challenging learning environment. Teacher must also
continue they education and stay on top of current educational practices, state exams, policies,
rules and regulations. Teachers should work with other colleagues and professionals in order to
develop curriculums that will meet high standards. The transfer of knowledge from teachers to
students is not easy. Teachers need to be role models and be honest and fair and reward student’s
progress whenever possible. Consistency will give the students boundaries to follow.

I believe what makes a teacher successful is the professional and personal characteristics that
they possess. A teacher must be a strong leader with an open mind and positive attitude. They
need to demonstrate high order of thinking, set obtainable objections, plan and execute clear
lesson plans in a fun and exciting way that meet the needs of many students with various
learning styles. Keeping students interested in subject material for an entire lesson can be very
stressful. Making a personal connection to students will motivate them to work harder. Teachers
that make student participate in the lesson plan will learn more. Each student needs to be treated
with respect and fairness and held accountable for their reactions.

Students love teachers that are fun, cool, caring, and responsible and outgoing. Students need
to feel like they are a part of a group and feel accepted in order to want to participate and
succeed. Teachers can make small steps each day by capturing a small part of a student’s interest
and drawing them into the class room lesson. Students that take ownership of their learning will
want to grow and develop more. For a teacher to be able to help a struggling student reach their
full potential would be one of the best accomplishments and rewards they could have.
