Introduction
The contents of this document will confirm the compliance of the proposed exterior lighting design for ASDA Coventry in conjunction with all
relevant environmental guidelines and lighting standards as listed below: ILP Guidance Notes for the Reduction of Obtrusive Light GN01:2011
BREEAM Ene 03 External Lighting
British Standard BS EN 12464-2:2011 Lighting of Work Places - Part 2; The Outdoor Workplace
British Standard BS 5489-1:2013 Code of Practice for the Design of Road Lighting - Part 1; Lighting of Roads & Public Amenity
CIBSE LG6:1992 The Outdoor Environment
Scope of Works
The current external customer car parking area is not illuminated with either wall mounted nor column mounted luminaires.
ASDA have identified that external lighting is to be provided to provide safe passage to and from the store whilst generating enough light to entice
customers into the car park, ensure pedestrian safety and increase vehicle security.
ASDA design specification requires a maintained average illuminance of 20 lux (Eavg) with uniformity ratio [Uo] of 0.35 (7 lux minimum).
There is no design parameter for the conformity ratio (Emin/Emax); therefore the most efficient mounting height (dependent upon luminous intensity)
is sought that offers the least impact upon the local environment.
ASDAs incumbent exterior lighting solution is provide by Holophane Europe Limited and combines Solid State [LED] luminaires with high efficacy
light engines capable of up to 100 lm/W (Lumens per Watt), performance optics delivering 0% upward light and 0% backward light where required.

Please refer to the BREEAM compliance certification (Appendix A) for Sky Glow compliance.
Please refer to the lighting design submission (Appendix B) for vertical illuminance results shown on all neighbouring residential properties.
In summary, the proposed lighting design complies fully to both the above limitations producing a Sky Glow percentage of 0% with a maximum
vertical illuminance on the closest residential property of 0.2 lux for Light Intrusion into windows.

Conclusion
The exterior lighting design proposal for ASDA Coventry, Jubilee Avenue exceeds all industry standards and regulations.
The use of the performance LED luminaire D-Series (DSX) by Holophane Europe Limited ensures that the environmental impact of the lighting design is
maintained to a minimum with only two 6m high lighting points (columns) and a combined loading of 426 Watts.
Light spill is kept to within a close boundary of the site perimeter and it can be seen that this has almost completely dissipated before reaching any
residential properties (both horizontal and vertical illuminance).
The lighting design also does not include any obstructions (trees, fences, buildings etc.), resulting in a worst case illuminance plot.
In reality it is expected that no spill light will reach any residential properties boundary.
