to get involved, there is additional training required for
helping with shelter animals as well as working with
children, fostering animals, and participating in the wildlife
rescue and rehabilitation program. The staff at VBSPCA
wants volunteers to be successful and enjoy being a part of
 
our extended family and the best way to accomplish this is
by giving them relevant knowledge and experience.  
Volunteers who help with animals in the shelter really make
a difference in the animals’ lives. Not only do volunteers
help with feeding, exercising, cleaning and grooming but
they socialize them, and are given instruction on how to
encourage basic obedience for the dogs, which will help
them adapt to a new home more easily. Volunteers also
help potential adopters with guidance on pets that suit their
lifestyles, answering questions and helping them through
the decision making process.

Getting involved in the fostering or wildlife program is

were fostered by VBSPCA volunteers in 2009 and 2,000

Help Save Samaritan House Programs
In February, Governor McDonnell recommended
to cut domestic violence program services in the
state of Virginia by 50%. The House
Appropriations Committee did not vote to support
this cut, but are proposing a 39% reduction in
funding for domestic violence programs
starting in Fiscal Year 2011.

Samaritan House is the largest recipient of these funds
