Good evening, I am Kenneth Lee from the Environment Society. First, I must thank all of you
for inviting me here to give a speech on the adverse effects of pollution. I hope you will find my speech
informative and useful.
Pollution is a major problem today. Man pollutes the air, rivers, seas and land as well. Air
pollution is caused by airborne lead, smoke and poisonous gases discharged by vehicles and factories.
Air pollution causes health problems and illnesses such as lung cancer, asthma, sore throat and flu.
Water pollution is caused by oil spills in the sea. Rivers are polluted with the industrial wastes
from factories and garbage from homes. The contaminated water causes fish and other sea creatures to
die. This can bring about disastrous effects to the ecosystem.
Noise pollution caused by vehicle horns and engines can result in hearing problems even
deafness. Can the government carry out measures to reduce pollution? Yes, for example, the
government should pass stricter laws to limit the release of harmful gases from factories and drains.
More trees should be planted to make the air fresh.
The public should refrain from open burning and littering. We should keep the volume of our
televisions and radios low. Besides that, we must not sound the horns of our vehicles unnecessarily
when driving in the city.
I hope you have found my speech informative. Thank you.
