Who We Are
How can physicians provide care that sets them apart, improves patient outcomes, and
increases revenue?
Why do patients have to go to a pharmacy and wait for half hour or more while a stranger
rushes through filling their prescription?
These are the two fundamental questions that led us to create PharmRx. With over 40 years in
the pharmacy industry, were positioned to fill a pressing healthcare gap: doctors looking for
ancillary services and patients looking for better care.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to make the healthcare industry work better for both patients and physicians.
Were bringing much-needed innovation to the pharmacy industry and ancillary services.
Independent practices are a linchpin of Americas healthcare system, and we want to help them
thrive.
OUR GOALS
Our core goals are to improve patient outcomes and to help physicians and clinics stay
independent and profitable.

We do this by placing pharmacies and pharmacists directly at the point of care: a physicians
office or clinic. We also offer ancillary services such as high-accuracy toxicology testing and
billable injection kits that allow physicians to offer better care and increase revenues.

LEADERSHIP
Michael A. Russin has broad experience in the pharmacy and medical-device industries. Russin
is a cofounder of Diabetes Sentry Products, creator of the only FDA-approved, patented,
wearable, non-invasive, sensor-based hypoglycemia-symptom alarm on the market. Russin is
one of the patent holders on the next-generation product, the Diabetes Sentinel. He also
cofounded digiMedical Solutions, one of the first companies to provide electronic-prescription
capabilities to physicians and clinics. Russin grew the company from an MBA course project to
$18 million in first-year revenue.
A constant innovator, Russin sees point-of-care pharmacies as the next logical step in the
evolution of the pharmacy industry. Electronic prescriptions revolutionized the medical
experience for both patients and physicians, and Russin cofounded PharmRx with the aim of
bringing similar innovation to prescription delivery. Russins earlier background is in software,
which has given him the ability to integrate technology and healthcare delivery into seamless
systems that work for both physicians and patients.
Michael B. Russin has years of experience in investment management with companies such as
Morgan Stanley and Altair Advisers. An expert in financial modelling for pharmacy companies,
Russin brings deep expertise in the economics of pharmacies to PharmRx. He has long searched
for a new model to innovate the pharmacy industry, improve the patient experience, and
increase revenue for physicians. Top-tier doctors and practices have always found ways to
thrive; how can they continue to do so with the advent of the ACA and pay for performance
(P4P)?
Russins answer, point-of-care services, led him to cofound PharmRx. To Russin, success means
medical clinics are thriving, patients are experiencing stronger outcomes, and the bottom line is
improving for all involved.

Integrated health care | Workers

compensation

Integrated Pharmacies
Member-only pharmacies located in the physicians office. Each of our locations is dedicated to
a particular clinic, a PharmRx pharmacy is able to provide immediate and personalized service
to each and every patient. To assist patients with regaining or maintaining good health, the
need exists for health care professionals to work collaboratively with patients as members of a
team.
A winning team has three members, each having a critical role: doctor, pharmacist, and patient.
Success is based on the premise that the doctor and pharmacist work collaboratively with the
patient to devise a treatment plan that effectively manages their medical condition. A patient
must not only be confident that the prescribed medications will work, but must also be willing
and able to take them as intended.

PharmRx helps independent practices and physicians improve patient outcomes and increase
revenue. We specialize in integrated healthcare solutions, including point-of-care pharmacies,
MTM, toxicology testing, billable injection kits, and workers compensation assistance.
Everything we do has two objectives: improving patient outcomes and helping doctors, clinics,
and thriving practices stay independent and profitable.
We know how hard it is to run an independent practice. It gets more expensive every year.
Healthcare legislation changes. Reimbursement models shift. The prevalence of chronic disease
only rises, necessitating more intensive (and time-consuming) treatments. Many physicians
have to close their practices and join a hospital group.
We work with the physicians and practices who know they provide the best care when theyre
independent. When they set the rules. When they have the freedom to do whats best for the
patientnot a board of directors. These physicians know how to stay in business: differentiate
themselves with best-in-class services that patients cant find anywhere else.
Thats where we come in. We help you set your practice apart, so you continue to thrive
independently.

Drug therapy | Medication Use | Medication

adherence

PharmRx believes one of the most critical of ancillary services is pharmacy which in 2014 totaled
$360 billion or nearly 12% of total health care expenditures. By incorporating a point-of-care
pharmacy directly within their clinic walls doctors stand to gain two critical benefits
First, their patients can utilize our consulting, informational or support center services to significantly
improve their adherence to medication therapies. This leads to better outcomes and fewer visits to
clinics or admissions and readmissions to hospitals. which is the exact kind of value that CMS (and
everyone else concerned with health care) is looking for. Second, a partnership with one of our
specialty pharmacies is an excellent strategy to generate additional revenue or to recapture revenue
lost due to the implementation of the ACA.

Opportunity
The independent general practice has been the primary point of care for most patients for
generationsyet a 2015 study of independently operating specialists showed that nearly half
are planning on closing their practices in the next few years.

With chronic disease on the rise, and the services of physicians only increasing in demand, the
market for healthcare is certainly not shrinking, so why are independent practices failing?
The implementation of the Affordable Care Act has shifted the way physicians are compensated
for their time and services. Instead of fee-for-service payment models, many physicians
compensation is tied to patient outcomes.
And one of the most important factors in patient outcomes is adherence to drug therapy:

65% of hospital readmissions are medication-related.

30-50% of treatment failures are due to non-compliant medication use.
50% of patients do not take their medication as prescribed.
20-30% of prescriptions are never even filled.

The vast majority of physicians surveyed94%agreed that innovative business models must
step in to bridge the gap in the market between revenue and patient care. And this is where
we see opportunity.
Our solution? Bring pharmacies right into physicians practices.
In-house pharmacists have been shown to reduce the occurrence of negative therapeutic
outcomes by 53-63%. Why?
Because patients can get their questions about medication and treatment answered, on the
spot, by a pharmacist who knows your practice and knows your patients personally.
Because an in-house pharmacist becomes a partner with you in patient carealerting you to
potential non-adherence, confusion about diagnosis and medical advice, and helping you give
the most at-risk patients the intensive care they require to improve.
And not only will an in-house pharmacy improve patient outcomes and restore potentially lost
revenue, it allows your practice to capture some of the $360 billion spent on pharmaceuticals
annually in the US12% of the healthcare market.
To stay profitable in todays difficult climate, independent practices need innovative business
models. We cant think of anything more innovative and efficient than offering ancillary
services proven to increase patient wellness.

Chronic disease management | Patient

compliance

By implementing our patient-centered approach we can assist clinics with effective distribution,
compliance and monitoring of medications prescribed to prevent errors, unnecessary costs and
improve patient adherence to the prescribed medication regiment. We accomplish this by
optimizing automation, technology, personal service and by taking ownership of the medication
use process. A partnership with one of our specialty pharmacies is an excellent strategy to
generate additional revenue or recapture revenue lost due to the implementation of the
Affordable Care Act (ACA), while simultaneously reducing medication errors and increasing
patient medication compliance.

Why PharmRx
In our 40 years in the pharmacy industry, we have worked closely with physicians around the
country. This experience has taught us how difficult it is to run a thriving, profitable
independent practice. Shifting reimbursement models, increased operating costs, and the
increasing healthcare burden of chronic disease make it harder than ever for successful
practices to maintain their competitive edge.

The physicians and practices who succeed are the ones who innovate.
Theyre looking for ways to stay independent and profitable and improve their patients
experience.
Our vision of the future of healthcare is based on the premise that independent practices can
continue to thrive, improving outcomes for both clinics and patients.
When you partner with us, you join an exclusive group of physicians who have decided to stay
independent. Who reject the notion that the only option in todays climate is to sell your
practice and join a hospital group.
Who arent afraid of innovation.

Integrated Pharmacies:
Drugs dont work in patients who dont take them.
-Former Surgeon General C. Everett Koop
We help improve medication adherence and patient outcomes by providing in-practice
pharmacies. On average, physicians spend 49 seconds of a 15-minute visit discussing new
medications. As physicians have to see more and more clients in less time to maintain revenue,
this is all the time they can afford. Yet they know that non-adherence is a major barrier to
improving patient health outcomes. So what can they do?
Some practices attempt to solve this issue by introducing in-office dispensing machines to their
practices. Superficially, this solution reduces costs and provides in-house pharmacy services to
patients.
The main problem with pharmacies for patients, however, isnt addressed: 50% of patients do
not take their medications as prescribed. A dispensing machine doesnt solve that problem. It
doesnt increase adherence. It doesnt answer patients questions about their medications or
clear up their confusion. So physicians who take that route are stuck with the same problem as
before: non-adherence that suppresses their patients improvement.
Studies have repeatedly shown that when patients get more time with a medical professional
who answers questions about their prescriptions, their adherence increases. Whats needed is
more contact with pharmacists, not less.
The logical conclusion? Bring pharmacists in-house.
We set up pharmacies in physicians practices and take care of everything, including paying the
pharmacist.

Support Center Services

You didnt become a doctor so you could spend hours a day on paperwork. And you want your
staff focusing on what they do bestnot dealing with administrative headaches.
Thats why our support center takes care of the following services:

Prescription renewals.
Round-the-clock phone support for your patients (including after hours).
Patient education and counseling.
Syncing all communication and prescription transaction information with your database
daily.
Patient education and counseling on prescriptions.

For most patients, this level of support from a doctors office is unheard of. Now, when they
have questions about their medications, they dont have to schedule an appointment or worry
about taking up their physicians time. All they have to do is pick up the phone and call us.
Patients with access to support-center services love the improvement in the quality of their
healthcare.
But the biggest benefit to patients whose doctors arent spending hours a day on paperwork?
More time with you.
Let us take care of admin, so you can focus on providing quality patient care.

Toxicology Testing
Toxicology testing and other point-of-care lab tests can increase adherence, improve outcomes,
and reduce workers compensation healthcare costs. We provide toxicology testing kits that
save your patients trips to third-party testing facilities and eliminate the paperwork of referrals
and lab requests.
We provide all toxicology testing kits, supplies, forms, laboratory tests, reports, and courier
services.
Physicians enjoy many benefits from point-of-care lab tests, including:

Reducing practice liability by giving physicians the ability to prevent dangerous drug
interactions.
Verifying that patients are following their prescribed medication regimen.
Generating greater revenue (due to higher billing for our high-complexity, high-accuracy
lab tests) with no out-of-pocket costs.
Adhering to workers compensation medical treatment guidelines that specifically
recommend urine drug testing (UDT) for chronic pain patients.

We take care of all lab testingyou get the benefit of an in-house lab, but with none of the risk,
cost, or setup.

Injection Kits
While in-office injections are a crucial component of a physicians practice, the process of
preparing injection trays is inefficient and time-consuming. Thats why, when we were looking
for ways to save physicians time and increase revenue, we decided on billable injection kits as a
core part of our offering.
Injection kits are pre-measured, single-use vials of medication that physicians can use in-office
for procedures such as trigger-point injections, steroid injections, and more than two dozen
other specific condition treatment kits.
Injection kits make billing easier (and often increase the amount you can bill for injections),
reduce waste, and save time you dont have to spend on measuring dosages.
