TELEMEDICINE IN TAMILNADU

PERIPHERAL MEDICAL DEVICES:


With the vision of bringing healthcare of international standards within the reach of every
individual, Apollo Hospitals joined forces with AliveCor Inc. USA to tackle the growing problem
of heart arrhythmias by providing an innovative mobile device to improve access to cardiac
screening tools for patients across India and south Asia, thus preventing unnecessary loss of life
and billions in healthcare cost because heart arrhythmia is going undiagnosed and undermanaged.
ALIVE COR HEART MONITOR:
The FDA cleared, AliveCor Heart Monitor when used with the free AliveECG app (compatible
with iPhones and most Android devices), is a personalized, easy-to-use device that records
accurate ECGs and heart rate at an affordable cost. Simply rest it on your fingers or chest to
record an ECG in just 30 seconds. The free AliveECG app allows you to record, store, and
review and shares your ECGs with doctors.
The AliveECG app also has two FDA cleared algorithm for:

Normal ECG Detector - Gives instant feedback on the ECG if it is Normal.


AF Detector - Tells if Atrial Fibrillation, the most common Heart arrhythmia is existing in
ECG

MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT:


Mobile Medical Unit is a totally self-contained mobile platform which houses medical
equipment, diagnostic equipment, tent and captive power unit. It would be capable of setting up a
mobile clinic at any village, within an hour, to provide preventive, primary healthcare along with
diagnostics services. This MMU is stationed at a fixed pre identified and announced location on
a fixed day and fixed time. The location can be a Panchayat office, village school or any other
similar location. This way the MMU will travel to different locations on different day of every
week from Monday to Saturday and comes back to the first location on following Monday.
People from nearby village are required to travel to MMU for services; however every attempt
will be made to minimize such travel.
This MMU is capable of transporting six people including well trained driver who will double-up
as healthcare assistant. Other people will be a balance of doctors, nurses, lab technician and
paramedics. This combination is in accordance with predefined budget and requirement. The non
emergency patients will be served on first cum first basis.

Patient details are registered and clinical parameters are captured through computer, and
subsequent to that medical consultation is provided. Depending on the requirement doctor either
prescribes medicine straight away on advises diagnostic tests. All diagnostic tests that can be
performed in MMU will be carried out immediately and results will be made available to doctor.
If patient requires advanced diagnostic tests or specialists advice, he or she will be referred to
nearest government hospital along with printed patient details and clinical findings.
The entire health information is transmitted to a centralized database at the end of each day. Such
health information will be used for continuity of medical services, data analytics, disease
prevalence and management information reports.

KIOSK EXTENDS REACH OF HEALTH SERVICES PROVIDERS


Kiosk brings healthcare to any worksite, retail outlet or community center. The goal of these
compact, tele health kiosks is to deliver health care more quickly, conveniently, and costeffectively to patients. It covers all specialties from the remote location and gets specialist
opinion.
Many such interactions can now be handled using kiosks, which can be located in hospitals,
behavioral healthcare facilities, long-term care facilities, corporate offices, or even retail sites
such as pharmacies.

HOW IT WORKS
Patients may walk in, prepare the electronic medical record and fix appointment with specialist.
The medical attendant then collects information and sends the same to specialty center for
opinion.
Patients vitals are taken, using a range of medical instruments in the kiosk and their data is
uploaded using Telemedicine application (medeintegra). Based on request, the doctor or clinician
appears on the screen, the patients records and vitals are available for doctor and proceeds with
the patients assessment / opinion.
The medical instruments available in kiosks may be customized based on the needs of the
location. Example:

Patient couch

The kiosk is made of wooden frame with glass door. Easy to assemble and re assemble. Lighting
and wiring infrastructure in kiosk are as per clinical requirement.
