and equipment are working in the design department of Bekaert Engineering. The design department is divided into three
units: the I, U and O-unit.
The I-unit is responsible for innovation.
The designers from the U-unit prepare the specifications for ordering the machines from the broad portfolio of Bekaert.
They are also responsible for the modularization of it, as for the on-line developments.
The O-Unit provides support to the existing plants for adjustments, modifications and upgrades on equipments previously

The implementation of the completed plans is usually done by the P&L (Production & Logistics) department of Bekaert
Engineering.
Gives support to the responsible design engineer when developing new machinery or equipment during the (preliminary)
study and the realization phase.
Develops new equipment or installations that meet the preliminary studies and the constraints of the construction.
Does some developments to existing machines to add new functionalities.
New Designs
Puts forward proposals on new developments within its field of application and discusses this with the group.
Preliminary studies
Sets the part design specifications for the chosen design after collecting data from production, suppliers and competitors,
literature, existing equipments, etc.
Works or assists on the first evaluations.
Contributes to the development of objective evaluation criteria, perform any tests and measurements, to allow after
discussion to make the optimal choices for the further development of the design
Sets the technical parts of quotes. Consult thereon with the responsible engineer or project manager.
Development from
preliminary study to
implementation
Makes preliminary designs based on their own ideas or suggestions from others
Reports this to the responsible engineer or project manager.
Elaborates in a systematic way the final designs and takes into account specifications, maintenance, appearance, safety
and ergonomics, costs, recovery of existing parts, standardization, etc.
Helps draftsmen to carry out the preliminary draft.
Takes part in the selection of key materials and purchased components, and gives advice to the draftsmen for the Bill of
Material
Provides information to the draftsmen and follow their work.
Performs measurements and tests on machines, plant and prototypes and saves these data.
