Basics

1.1

Target Group and Use of this Manual

This document contains brief installation and startup instructions for a HiPath system or network.
It is intended for technically advanced customers who want to perform the initial startup of their
HiPath 3000/5000 IP system themselves, and configure the basic Internet telephony features.
In addition, it is a useful aid for trained service personnel who want a brief overview of the chronological sequence of startup activities.

1.2

Varieties of the HiPath 3000/5000 IP System

HiPath 3000/5000 V9 is a highly scalable communications system designed for both small and
medium-sized companies as well as for extensive enterprise networks. HiPath 3000/5000 V9
is available in a wide range of configurations from straightforward standalone systems with a
small number of stations to centrally administered networks with 64 nodes and up to 2000
workpoint clients (IP and TDM telephones and IP clients). The system architecture avails of the
advantages of distributed systems to spread the load placed on individual components and to
achieve optimal performance.
HiPath 3000/5000 V9 is available in the following three varieties:

Further Information

Further information on HiPath 3000/5000 V9 is provided in the following documents:

Feature Description
The Feature Description lists and describes in detail all HiPath 3000 and HiPath 5000 features, grouped according to topic. Dependencies with other features and possible restrictions are also described.

Service Manual
The service manual provides information on systems corresponding to HiPath 3000/5000.
The information provided includes descriptions of all HiPath 3000-compatible boards, information on standard installation and startup procedures for the various HiPath 3000 systems, startup and administration of HiPath 5000 RSM, information on HiPath License Management and details of the workpoint clients supported.

Manager E Administrator Documentation

With HiPath 3000 Manager, you can administrate and configure HiPath 3000 and HiPath
5000 communication systems. You can manage either a standalone communication system or a network comprising several HiPath 3000 and HiPath 5000 communication systems by configuring the corresponding customer data memory (CDM). With netwide administration you can access and modify the central customer data memory from a central
location in the network (e.g. configure, modify or relocate stations).

HG 1500 Administrator Documentation

These instructions provide a complete description of the administration options offered by
HG 1500. They explain clearly and concisely how to administer and configure a gateway
via the Web-Based Management (WBM) interface.

Inventory Manager User Guide

With the Inventory Manager, you can quickly obtain a complete overview of all integrated
components and installed applications in the HiPath 3000/5000 V9 network. For service
technicians, the quick, concise overview which can be called up for the version numbers of
all communication servers in the network (HiPath 3000 and HiPath 5000) can be particularly useful. The information can be accessed from every PC in the network.
The following information can be called up:

Information on all HiPath 3000 and HiPath 5000 systems in the network, including information on their respective boards (e.g. HG 1500),

Information on all applications and operating systems installed on the PCs in the network,

Display of the hierarchical structure of hardware components and their software versions.

Software Manager User Guide

With the Software Manager you can query, update and back up the current system software for individual HiPath components via a web browser. The assignment of the HiPath
components to the individual nodes can also be quickly ascertained. The functions are distributed as follows:

1-6

with the integrated Upgrade Manager you can query and update the system software
of all HiPath components,

with the integrated Backup Manager you can back up the system software. These backups can then be used to restore the systems in the event of a system crash.

Licensing the Features

Licensing the Features

Some features must be licensed before you can use them. For example, these include the use
of more than two B channels.
In this case you must install License Management, including a license agent (CLA), on a PC in
the network. The License Management software is available either on the software CD for
HiPath 3000/5000 V9 or on a separate CD. After installation you can use License Management
to request a license file with the aid of the authorization code or MAC address of the HiPath
3000 Control Board (CB). Details can be found in the License Management Online Help. As
soon as licensing is finished, you receive a license file, which is installed automatically in a subdirectory of the CLA (Customer License Agent). The licensing procedure must be repeated for
each HiPath 3000 system in the network. These files contain all of the data required for the subsequent distribution of the licenses for the features. This distribution of licenses is performed
using HiPath 3000 Manager.

>

If the CLA and HiPath 3000 Manager are not on the same PC, the IP address of the
PC on which the CLA is installed can be entered in a configuration file in the
HiPath 3000 Manager directory.
The configuration file (ass_150e.ini - Cla_Host) can be found in the directory
C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Siemens\Manager E.
