penalty. This was the 262nd report of the
Law Commission. It is worth mentioning
that in 1962, the Law Commission, in its
35th Report, had recommended retention
of death penalty. India is one of 59
countries where the death penalty is still
awarded by courts.

India and Australia that commenced
from 12 September 2015 at
Visakhapatnam? AUSINDEX-15
Explanation: AUSINDEX-15 is the
name given to the first bilateral naval
exercise being conducted off the east
coast of India from 12 September to 19
September 2015. The exercise focuses
on anti-submarine warfare as the two
countries look at deepening defence
cooperation especially in the Indian
Ocean. The Royal Australian Navy has
sent three ships for the exercise Sirius
(fleet tanker), Arunta (Anzac class
frigate), and (Collins class submarine)
while the Indian Navy is represented by
INS Shivalik (stealth frigate), INS
Ranvijay (guided missile destroyer) and
INS Shakti (fleet tanker). The exercise
also aims at strengthening professional
interaction, both in harbour and at sea
and would be a start for attaining
interoperability between the two navies.
