Doing research and surveys are hard since there are cases wherein there are just too many
variables that are included in a particular study. Each and every variable should be observed and
should be checked whether it is really related to the topic and whether it has a positive or
negative effect on another variable, or no effect at all.
Population should also be identified therefore researchers should really know what their
researchs goal really is. Researchers should collect past data that might be helpful to their study
and should have brief knowledge or background about their research.
Questions should all be checked first if it is really useful or can really benefit the study. It is
also important to make the surveys short since the longer the survey is, the less interested
selected participants would be. It is important to know how to choose your questions and
combine some into one. It is also important to know that not all surveys or research are for the
mass. Sometimes questions from the surveys are applicable only to the target population or
sample of the study and will not really be understood by the others. On the other hand, when
conducting surveys it is important to also have a little background about the surveyed population
like for example in the given research, their research is limited because most of the students who
participated were females, therefore limiting the generability of the results.
There are times wherein it is hard to measure or evaluate something that is related to your
research. Like in the given example, creativity cannot be easily assessed for creativity has a lot of
inconsistent definitions. I agree on the part that creativity cannot be measured just by using the
product approach because it is true that is not suitable for everyone for not everyone have
knowledge about constructing or producing products.
When measuring what you want to learn about a particular topic, one does not just look from
the very scope of the topic. Researchers have to dig in deeper about each and every variable; they
should identify all possible variables that are connected to the topic, whether it has a big or small
impact on the study. In study comparisons, it is important to make use of visual presentations
like tables to show or to allow people understand the discussion more. It is also important to
input all the gathered results to further strengthen the reliability of the study.
For me the given research was kind of hard to understand since there are too many involved
topics and too many variables are being tested and compared. Another factor that bothered me
was there are too many citations that distracted me while I was reading the research.
In researchers that want to show relationships between multiple variables, it is not just important
to prove relationships of each but also important to show the amount of impact of each variable.
Like in the given research, it is said that cognitive ability accounted for 4% of the variance; Big
Five superfactors had an additional 22% of the variance, while the selected personality had a
biggest variance of 35%. It is important to highlight and explain all these conclusions from the
study.

During times when not all researchers agree on a certain problem or topic, the best solution for
this is to develop the best solution as well. All research problems have solutions therefore it is
really important to have patience and faith on ones own research. It is very important for all
research to voice out their ideas, comments and suggestions to improve their research. It is also
very important for researchers to agree and be comfortable on the decisions made. An example
from the given research is when the researches decided to make use of the Runco Ideational
Behavior Scale to assess self-reported creative ideation and when they used principle axis
factoring and scree test in their analysis.
It is also important for a research to be useful to the society and contribute knowledge to
others. It is also better if one knows and cites his own researchs weakness for others to be able
to further extend his or her research and contribute his or her ideas to the research.
In conducting research it is important to identify or construct a particular hypothesis. The
hypothesis will be the one to guide the researchers on the steps that they have to do and tell them.
A research without hypothesis is just complicated and weird.
It is also normal to have more than just one hypothesis, especially on researches that covers a
really broad topic. Like in the given example, there are two hypotheses than can be further
divided into subgroups. The first hypothesis has three parts: For the accepted hypothesis:
Ideational behavior will be positively correlated with openness to experience and Extraversion,
but negatively with Conscientiousness. For the null hypothesis: Ideational behavior will not be
positively correlated with openness to experience and Extraversion, and not negatively with
Conscientiousness. The second hypothesis is, for the accepted hypothesis: there would be a
significant positive relationship between Ideational Behavior and Fluid and a significant positive
relationship between Ideational Behavior and Intelligence. For the null hypothesis: there would
be no significant positive relationship between Ideational Behavior and Fluid and no significant
positive relationship between Ideational Behavior and Intelligence
It is important to maintain consistency in doing research and check the validity of the tests
being done. It is also important to divide the survey into parts, grouping those who are related to
one another to avoid confusion and for it to have a smooth flow when being answered.
It is also important to inform the participants about the research they are being involved in and
give brief discussion about some particular topic they might not have full knowledge or full
understanding about. It is also sometimes necessary to limit the time allowed for the participants
to answer the questions to attain the best or a more accurate result. Since researches are there to
help or contribute to the society, it is important to give feedbacks to the participants when the
results are already out or available.
In doing researches, expected results are not always true. In other words hypotheses are not
always accepted. In the given study, the following results that came out were: Ideational behavior
was positively correlated with Openness to experience and negatively correlated with
Conscientiousness. Ideational Behavior was also positively correlated with Fluid. Therefore
confirming three parts of the hypotheses stated. On the other hand, the others were rejected.
