COMPETITION RULES

1. Eligibilty: The contest is open to all students registered in Kota Kinabalu High School
from Peralihan Ceria to Form 6, regardless of student status. In other words, if you carry

a Kota Kinabalu High School 2016 Student Card, you can enter the contest.
COMPETITION CLOSES at May 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Malaysia Standard Time (GMT+8). Late
entries will not be accepted.
NO PAPER ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. All stories must be submitted through our
online submission form.
ALL ENTRIES MUST:
(i) Be in English.
(ii) Be within the stipulated word limit, no more, no less. The title is not included in the word
count. Punctuation does not count as a word. Each word must be separated by a space. An
eligible entry by a Lower Form entrant will have 300 500 words. A Upper Form entry will have
400 600 words.
(iii) Be a <.doc> or <.docx> attachment.
You can send as many entries as you like with different essays. So feel free to go wild.
Amendments or substitutions cannot be made to entries after they have been submitted. If
more than one of the same entry is received from student, only the first entry will be valid and
subsequent entries will be voided. Submissions that are incomplete or corrupted will be voided
and will not be accepted.
Each submitted entry must be an ORIGINAL, UNPUBLISHED WORK of which you are the sole
author, and does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights of any other individual or
entity.
Your essay can be about anything. BUT it cannot be about the following topics (politics, religion,
race, etc.)
THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES IS FINAL.

PERSONAL DATA
10. KK High School English Club will collect and store the names and email addresses of all
participants and the additional contact details of winners as anticipated by sections Competition
Rules above. KK High School English Club will use this personal data for the following purposes:
- Managing the relationship between the participants and KK High School English Club
- Communication with participants to answer their queries about the Competition
- Communicating with the winners

PUBLICITY AND RIGHTS


11. KK High School English Club intends to publish the names of the winner[s] on the contest
websites, across the school, press releases and in other promotional and marketing material. By
entering the Competition, each participant agrees to the use of their name and image and
agrees to co-operate with any such publicity or marketing if they win a prize.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST?


The contest is open to all students registered in Kota Kinabalu High School from Peralihan Ceria
to Form 6, regardless of student status. In other words, if you carry a Kota Kinabalu High School
2016 Student Card, you can enter the contest.

HOW DO I ENTER?

You can choose any of the categories (Lower Form-[Peralihan Ceria-Form 3] / Upper Form[Form 4- Form 6]) to enter the contest. You can choose to send as many entries as you like to
increase your chances of winning.

We do ask that your entry be ORIGINAL (please dont plagiarise!).

For writing, each entry must be submitted via the official online contest submission form
( https://www.judgify.me/kkhsessay16 ).

You can only write your essay in English only.

We encourage you to visit our website for more information and great advice on constructing
your entries.

IS THERE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES ?


No! To increase your chances of winning, we encourage you to send in more than one entry.
You can send as many entries in as many categories as you would like.

CAN I WIN MORE THAN ONE PRIZE?


You can win only one prize only. For instance, if you had submitted three Fiction entries, and all
three of them placed for prizes, you will be awarded a prize for the entry that placed the
highest.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY ENTRIES BE?


If you are in the Lower Form Category, your entries should be between 300 and 500 words. If
you are in the Upper Form Category, your entries should be between 400 and 600 words.

DO I NEED TO INCLUDE CITATIONS AND A BIBLIOGRAPHY?


No. However, we encourage our contestants to attribute their sources in footnotes or endnotes
as far as possible. We are strongly against plagiarism, so if you use a quote, statistic or
argument put forward by another person, please attribute accordingly. Citations, footnotes,
endnotes and bibliographies will NOT be part of your word count.

CAN I E-MAIL YOU MY ENTRIES?


No. We only accept submissions via our online submission form.
