AN INTERESTING CIRCUIT

I recently received an interesting phone

The program was

written on a computer
recorded on a reel-to-reel tape recorder

call. It came from an Ethiopian refugee

mixed on a 12-channel mixer

who had worked with us in the radio

copied onto a cassette tape

taken to the post office in a 1982 Honda

ministry for about two years, and who, a

few months ago, resettled in Iowa City,
Iowa.

As I picked up my phone I heard, "Mr.

Priest! Mr. Priest! Listen!" And after a

moment, "Did you hear if? Did you hear

What I heard was our Ethiopian

radio program. This was the same
program that was written in our home
in Kenya ... translated in our office ...

recorded in our home studio ... sent by

mail to FEBA radio in the SeycheUe
Islands ... transmitted to the air waves

from there ... received in Iowa City on a

short-wave radio ... picked up by a
-telephone receiver ... sent to a satellite

... then received by a Kenyan satellite

dish ... transferred to the local phone
exchange ... and to my ear.

Civic

mailed by registered mail in a special

envelope
flown to the Seychelles on a jet
run through a 100 KW transmitter
bounced from the ozone layer to earth, I
don't know how many times
put through several amplifiers
converted to electrical impulses
changed into sound waves
absorbed into the Iowa City phone
exchange
then shot to a satellite

and finally flung back over to this part of

the world again.
(I sure wish we could have included a fax
machine some way. Ha.) _ _

Man! But we live in a wondrous age. What a
fabulous opportunity God has provided
for the proclamation of the gospel.

Quite an interesting circuit, wouldn't

you say?

And the meaning of all this is that men's

lives are being changed and people are being
brought to Christ.

About the only thing not to get included

in the whole process was the kitchen

Let me share with you some responses from

those who have also been part of the
complete circuit in Ethiopia with the Joy

sink and a fax machine.

Program broadcasts:

Gentlemen,

I would like to greet you warmly like old friends, and thank your programs for I have
been your customer since the morning your program started. In fact what I want to tell
you is please, I am native speaker of this language and also know very well the
psychological makeup of my society.

Really your program seems that it was produced by a man who knows very well about
our society. Really, he is a very good engineer with good talent. In addition, to this,
really I also appreciate your broadcasts with sweet voice and typical and original
Borana language which provokes any member of that society to attend your program.
You are gaining popularity and among thousands of your audience I am one. And at this
occasion I beg you faithfully that you add more time to your programs, or that you add
more days in the week.

I appreciate your program. Please keep it up, this good quality.

Please, we will be in touch through letter if God helps me. I remain your permanent
audient, and commend you every time.
God bless you.

PLEASE PRAY FOR JULY 24,1991

On September 4, 1990, God gave us

the opportunity to begin broadcasting
two thirty-minute programs a week to
the Borana-speaking people of

On July 24,1991, all of this will

change, and we will speak for the
first time in our songs, prayers,

and teaching about Jesus. A key

paragraph in this particular program
will be:

Ethiopia

"Those who study God's Word closely

have said that there are more than 300

prophecies given about the Messiah of

God. They were all fulfilled in the life
A large
percentage
of these

people have
ties to the
Islamic

faith. They
believe that
Jesus was a

prophet but

ofone person who lived about 2,000

years ago. His name was Jesus of
Nazareth. He was the one of whom the
prophets spoke. He was the one God
promised to Abraham when God said,
'From your seed will come one who
will bless all the nations of the world.'
He was the one God had planned in
the very beginning to send to this earth
to save men from their sins."

do not

accept Him
as the Son
of God.

We felt that if we began broadcasting

programs centered around Jesus that
many would refuse to listen. So we
decided to first present basic Bible
teachings concerning the attributes of
God, the creation, the fall of man,
death entering the world, the flood,
the call of Abraham, the other
patriarchs, slavery in Egypt, Moses,
the wanderings, and the prophets.
(These events all leading up to the
entrance of Jesus upon the scene.)

Our introduction of Jesus will be after

almost eleven months of Borana

programs. Our hope and prayer is that our Usteners will be ready to hear about
Jesus when the time comes. We hope that many will believe in Him and make Him
their Lord. We hope that in the near future there will be baptized believers meeting
in homes and under trees and, in time, in tlieir own church buildings.
PLEASE PRAY FOR RESPONSIVE HEARTS

Pray that the Holy Spirit will touch the hearts of our listeners, and that they will
make a positive response to the message o:f Jesus. Pray that their hearts will be
opened to the truth.
PRAY A PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

On May 1,1991, Barrel and Sharlene Hoffmaster left their five-year ministry with
the Maasai of Kenya to enter the radio work with us. We praise God for their
decision, and we ask you to also pray for t lem as they share the gospel now with the

Oromo and Borana people.

PRAY FOR OTHER MISSIONARIES

Please pray, also, that God will raise up at least another missionary couple to come
and help. They are needed immediately.
Yours in Him,
