~HAPPY BUCKS AND FELLOWSHIP~

Barbara Bruner gave a couple of HBs for Cals
stirring 1 point basketball victory over Arizona . .
Angelo Costanza gave a HB because he
attended the game where St. Marys beat archrival Gonzaga, due to Ron Julians rally cap
when the Gaels were down by 15 . . . The Rajah
gave two HBs for the Warriors huge win over the
Spurs last night . . . Larry Tessler, whose
birthday is this week, gave a nice check for $77 .
. . . . . Cliff Dochterman gave a HB for his safe
return from Rotary service in the wilds of San
Diego at the International Assembly, where he
helped train all 500+ of the incoming District
Governors in the world. His grande finale speech
was translated into 9 languages, including
English, and the video of the speech has
probably gone viral by now on the Internet. Try

The Club will get 25% off the top just for the

Employee of the Month Brian South & friends

~EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH~

Kevin Reneau invited Lt. Jon King of the
Moraga Police to introduce this months
Employee of the Month, Moraga Rotarian Sgt.
Brian South. He was described as great
representative of the Town and the best
investigator on the force, who also handles many
service projects of the force such as working with
elementary school children and fundraising for
the Special Olympics. Brian received $100 in gift
certificates donated by Town businesses, and a
Get Out of Jail Free card.
The Employee of the Month, the joint project of
Moragas Rotary and Chamber of Commerce
has now completed four years of operation.
Kudos to Kevin Reneau and Larry Tessler for
leading the project, and Cliff Dochterman who
is on the selection committee. Thanks also to
Lamorinda Weekly for publishing the photos of
each awardee.

~ANNOUNCEMENTS~
The dinner for Moragas Businessperson of
the year Kevin Reneau will be on Tuesday Feb
23 at 6 pm at the Moraga Country Club, cost $55
per person, so sign up with Gary Irwin to attend.

President Roger complimented Kevin Reneau

for arranging the State of Moraga Business
2016 seminar last Tuesday evening at the Soda
Center. Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce,
we heard from the Town of Moraga, an
economics professor from St. Marys College,
the new owner of the Rheem Shopping Center,
and our own Rotarian, Ron Mucovich. We
learned that Rons big mission on the
commercial real estate front is getting a
Mexican restaurant into this town. Over 100
people attended, including several Rotarians.
The District Conference will be April 1-3 at the
Yolo County Fairgrounds. Fun will include a
golf tournament on March 31, and the Friday
night social where food and drink are free. No
free lunch, thoughno such thing.
Tony Schoemehl and Gary Irwin volunteered to
help at Orinda Rotarys Crab Feed last Saturday
by tending bar. They had to work three whole
hours (not counting the eating and drinking time),
and their talents were well received. It was tough
work, but someone had to do it. Orinda Rotary
will reciprocate by sending volunteers to help
with our A Nite at the Races.

Tony and Gary--Service above Self ?

Rajah sez: Remember our District Governor,

Ken Courville asked us to note the acts of
kindness we do and put them in the Be A Gift
To The World collection box here on the
podium. Please write the kind things youve
done this past week and slip it into the box.

~PROGRAM~
Our speaker today was Dan Dunn, the Director
of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley. The
central building is the Danville train depot, built in
1889, which was restored and relocated in 1999.
It is registered as a National Historic building.

President Roger and Dan Dunn

Another building owned by the Museum is the

Tassajara Grammar School, which has been
restored and is used for immersion history
sessions conducted by the Museum. The 3rd
graders use McGuffey readers, ink and quill
pens, old desks, and learn 19th century
curriculum for a day.
The Valley's past is featured in a permanent exhibit
that includes artifacts, an historical narrative frieze
and pictures of historic buildings. The Museum
collects, stores and protects artifacts from the San
Ramon Valley. A Museum Store offers exciting gifts
and
remembrances
for
visitors.
In addition to a permanent exhibit on Valley history,
the Museum sponsors revolving exhibits and
several guided tours including the Alamo Cemetery
and Old Town Danville. School children are served
with special Indian Life programs for fourth graders
in the fall and the Tassajara One-Room School
program for third graders in the spring. Classrooms
are invited to tour the various exhibits.
The Museum and the Huntington Library in
Pasadena were the two chosen to coordinate in
Northern
California
an
exhibition
which
memorialized the assassination of President
Lincoln. It was also a partner to commemorate the

centennial of the 1915 PanamaPacific Exhibition

which was built on the northern waterfront of San
Francisco, from which the Palace of Fine Arts
remains.
The Museum also hosts periodic exhibitionsthis
year, these include Icons of the Valley, Model
Trains, survival during the internment of Japanese
Americans, and early inhabitants of the Bay Area.
The Museum also has a textile collection and has
exhibited 1880 wedding gowns.
