Definiton / explanation

Translation

A hospital trust, also known as an acute trust is

an NHS trust that provides secondary health
services within the English National Health
Service and, until they were abolished, in NHS
Wales. Hospital trusts were commissioned to
provide these services by NHS primary care
trusts and now by clinical commissioning
groups.
In pharmacology, any unexpected or dangerous
reaction to a drug. An unwanted effect caused
by the administration of a drug. The onset of
the adverse reaction may be sudden or develop
over time.
Ambulatory care is a patient focused service
where some conditions may be treated without
the need for an overnight stay in hospital.

Antenatal clinic is the clinic where you receive

healthcare from professionals during your
pregnancy.
Anti-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory refers
to the property of a substance or treatment that
reduces inflammation or swelling. Antiinflammatory drugs make up about half
ofanalgesics, remedying pain by reducing
inflammation as opposed to opioids, which
affect the central nervous system.
Diseased or damaged bone marrow can be
replaced by donated bone marrow cells, which
help treat and often cure many life-threatening
conditions.
A computerised tomography (CT) scan uses Xrays and a computer to create detailed images
of the inside of the body.
CT scans are also sometimes known as CAT
scans, which stands for computerised axial
tomography.
During a CT scan, you'll usually lie on your
back on a flat bed. The CT scanner consists of
an X-ray tube that rotates around your body.
You'll usually be moved continuously through
this rotating beam.

breech birth (when a baby is in bottom-first
position), or transverse lie across the womb
(lying across the tummy instead of up and

PCTs were largely administrative
bodies, responsible for commissioning
primary, community and secondary

community health services directly.
Collectively PCTs were responsible for
spending around 80 per cent of the
total NHS budget. Primary care trusts

part of the Health and Social Care Act
2012, with their work taken over

Being sectioned is the term that is

often used when someone is detained
under the Mental Health Act. The
Mental Health Act is the law which can
allow someone to be admitted,
detained (or kept) and treated in
hospital against their wishes. It can be
a very distressing experience for the
person, and their family and friends,
and will generally be used only if all
other options have been considered,
for instance looking at whether
support can be provided in the
community or if someone would agree
to go into hospital voluntarily.

Strategic health authorities (SHA) were

part of the structure of the National Health
Service in England.[1][2] Each SHA was
responsible for enacting the directives and
implementing fiscal policy as dictated by
the Department of Health at a regional
level. They replaced the former regional
health authorities. Each SHA area
contained various NHS trusts which took
responsibility for running or commissioning
local NHS services. The SHA was
responsible for strategic supervision of
these services.

Testing for chlamydia, gonorrhoea and

trichomonas usually involves taking 'swabs'.
A swab is a small ball of cotton wool on the
end of a thin stick, rather like a long cotton
bud. It can be gently rubbed in various
places to obtain a sample of mucus,
discharge, or some cells. These samples
can be taken from the vagina, penis, throat
and/or back passage (rectum). The sample
can then be looked at under a microscope
and sent away to the laboratory for testing.
A swab sample can also
detect thrush, bacterial vaginosis and
various other germs (bacteria) which are
not STIs.
