Cleanliness Habits
Cleanliness is not only related to bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, and
washing hands before dining but also participating in preventing the pollution. Pollution is
harmful to public health. But not all people especially those who live in cities care about it.
We can see rubbish or wreckage the broken part of destroyed thing in many places. As a
consequence, it damages the beauty of the city, creates water and air pollution and causes
disease. The polluted dust in air will make it hard for people to breathe and can irritate the
eyes. Polluted water and air are smelly : Besides giving a bad smell, polluted water, rivers,
and drains are not nice to see.
The government urges the resident to cooperate in preventing pollution. But it is not
enough. A good resident must be aware of this problem by starting cleanliness habit at
home and environment surroundings. He should arrange his house neaty and tidily. At home
he should have a rubbish container : Cleanliness operation in the neighborhood is important.
It can be held periodically, once or twice a month.
The environment cleanliness actually depends on the people. As the number of people

Should Ads be Banned from TV Program?
Dear Editor,
I am writing to complain about ads on TV. There are so many ads, especially during
my favorite programs. I think they should be stopped for a number of reasons.
First, ads are nuisance. They go on for a long time and there are so many. Sometime
the duration for ads is longer than the program itself.
Second, ads give a bad influence on people. They try to encourage people to buy
unhealthy food like beers, soft drinks, candies, etc. In other words, they make people
want things they do not really need and cannot afford.
Finally, it seems that ads play an important role in the programs people watch. There
are lots of ads in the programs, watched by a lot of people. Meanwhile, some programs
which are not so popular are stopped because they do not attract enough ads, even though
those programs may be people's Favorite.
For those reasons, I think TV stations should stop showing ads. They interrupt
programs, and have bad influence on people and they sometimes put a stop at people's
favorite shows. I am sick of ads and now I watch movie in the cinema.

Green Princess. The fame of her beauty
spread as far as Aceh to the West and the

Rainforests are one of the most complicated environments on earth. They are recognized worldwide as

Rainforests are the oldest major ecosystem, having survived climate changes for more than one million years.
They provided habitats for more species of plants, animals, insects and bird than any other environment found on your
planet. Scientists estimate that between 60 and 90 per cent of all species of life are to be found in rainforests.
Unfortunately, the widespread destruction of many of the worlds rainforests has caused a significant decline in the
number of plant and animal species on earth.
Rainforests influence both our local and global climates. For example, between 50 and 80 per cent of the
moisture in the air above rainforests comes from the rainforests trees. If large areas of these lush rainforests are cleared,
the average rainfall in the area will drop. Eventually, the areas climate will get hotter and drier. This process could
convert rainforests into a sparse grassland or desert.

Rainforests are vital to the earth in helping to recycle carbon and oxygen. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) is the gas put
into the air globally by humans, mainly by the burning of fossil fuels (for example in cars and factories). Rainforests are
able to remove carbon dioxide from the air and return oxygen in its place. This is why our global rainforests are often
called the Earths lungs.

There was a traveler going to a distant town. When he reached the town, it was almost
midnight. He came to an inn but he found it was locked from inside. He knocked at the
door.
"Who are you?" asked a voice from inside the inn. "What do you want? The door

The traveler needed a rest, food and shelter. He said, "Please, innkeeper, unlock the
door. See, how cold it is outside!"

entered into the inn.
"I have left one of my two bags outside," said the traveler. "Will you please bring it in?"

There was a traveler going to a distant town. When he reached the town it was almost
midnight. He came to an inn but he found it was locked from inside. He knocked at the door.

Vehicle manufacturers should take some responsibilities for the serious air pollution
in the city by planting five trees for every motor vehicle they produce, environment experts
said.
Zulfan A Rambe, operational director of Indonesian Hazardous Materials and Waste
Research (IHWaR) Foundation told a discussion in commemoration of World Tree Day on
Nov. 21 trees must be planted to balance for the pollution the city vehicles are responsible
for.
We will propose to the city administration to oblige the automotive manufacturers to
plant five trees for each motor vehicle they produce.
The administration should make regulations about corporate responsibilities to deal
with the pollution problem.
Environmental technology expert Eddy Soentjahyo said motor vehicle emission has
contributed up to 70 percent of air pollution in the city, which has more than 5.5 million
motor vehicles.
Experts have said open green spaces one alternative solution to deal with air
pollution, because it reduces carbon emission by absorbing pollutants and reload source of
oxygen to clean the air.
They said trees can improve drainage by preventing soil erosion and absorbing
rainwater. The automotive industry also has the responsibility to provide green areas as the
solution of pollution problem, Eddy said.
Manufacturers should join together to buy land in the city where trees could be
planted, he said. Eddy also suggested property developers consider making green areas on
rooftops to absorb the sun heat.
Daud Silalahi from the University of Padjajaran in Bandung keeps losing its open
green space due to residential and industrial developments.
Some 9 percent of Jakartas city area is made up of open green space, said city
administration, but the 2007 Law on Spatial Planning stipulates a city should provide at
least 30 percent of its total size for open green space.

PRABU Tapa Agung was an old
king. He had two daughters, Purbararang
and Purbasari. Prabu Tapa Agung planned

angry. "You cannot ask her to be the
queen, Father. I'm older than she is. It's
supposed to be me, not her!" said
Purbararang. But the king still chose

fiance, Indrajaya. Together they went to a
witch and asked her to put a spell on
Purbasari. Later, Purbasari had bad skin.

leave this palace and stay in a jungle,"
said Purbararang. Purbasari was very sad.
Now she had to stay in the jungle.
Everyday she spent her time playing with
some animals there.
There was one monkey that
always tried to cheer her up. It was not
just an ordinary monkey, he had magical
power. And he also could talk with
humans. The monkey's name was Lutung
Kasarung. He was actually a god. His name
was Sanghyang Gurumina.
Lutung Kasarung planned to help
Purbasari. He made a small lake and asked
her to take a bath there. Amazingly, her
bad skin was cured. Now she got her
beautiful skin back. After that, she asked
Lutung Kasarung to accompany her to go
back to the palace.

FLOOD
Flood is an overflow of an expanse
of water that submerges land. It is
included one of the most frightened
disasters in the world. This disaster brings
a lot of bad effect to nature and people.
There are three kinds of bad effect
that are caused by flood; primary effects,
secondary effects and long-term effects.
First is about the primary effects. The
examples of primary effects are physical
damage and casualties. Physical damage
can damage any type of structure,
including bridges, cars, buildings, sewer
systems, roadways, and canals. From
casualties, people and livestock die due to
drowning. It can also lead to epidemics

The next is secondary effects. The
examples are water supplies, diseases,

Diseases mean unhygienic conditions.

that can be caused due to loss of entire

Cleanliness Habits
Cleanliness is not only related to bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clean clothes, and

The bear was the father of five children. The youngest bear was very kind to the
rabbit. The mother bear, knowing that her youngest child was a very hearty eater, always
gave him an extra large piece of meat. The baby bear did not eat this extra large piece of
meat. Instead, he would take the meat outside and would pretend to play ball with it,
kicking it towards the rabbit's house, and when he got close to the door he would give
the meat such a great kick that it would fly into the rabbit's house. In this way, the poor
rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa bear.
