Bonfires & Marshmallows Promote Conservation, Conversation &

Community Building
The lack of snow cover kept the skis and snowshoes off the trails but Battenkill
Conservancys Annual Full Moon Walk benefited from a good supply of warm
cider, marshmallows and enthusiastic members who came out for conversation
and community building around the bonfire. Approximately forty adults, teens
and families (many from Boy Scout Troop 127 and Pack 27) came out to walk
the votive lite trails and a bit of adventure exploring the woods. The event took
place on BkC Board Member, Jan Wolski and husband, Toms 90 acres of
wooded trails just outside Cambridge, NY. Cloud cover early in the evening
prevented a stargazing program from taking place although the moon did not
disappoint later in the evening. Conservation, conversation and getting to know
those in your community is what BkCs promotes through their Explore Your
Battenkill events. Donna Young & Ron Biles, Managers at the Greenwich
Hannaford generously supplied the cider and snacks for the evening.
Mark your calendars for BkCs next Explore Your Battenkill event on
Saturday, March 12 with the popular Eagle Watch. The event will focus on the
local area nests that long time guide, Ron Renoni will share with the group. An
informal duck identification program will be included as well. More information
to be posted at www.battenkillconservancy.org.
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES: North River United Methodist Church would like to remind the community that weekly

the first Sunday of the month service which is held at 9am.
Children will learn bible based curriculum within a fun, safe,

Cashman at 518-251-2883.
Fort Salem Theater and Mazzone Hospitality announce a
new collaboration to bring up-scale musical events to the
Clifton Park Hilton Garden Inn. On Friday, February 12,
at 6 P.M., the Mazzone will host a four-course dinner and
present Jerry Gretzinger, Jessica Layton, and Benita Zahn in
The Singing Anchors Valentines Day Show, as originally produced at Fort Salem Theater. The Singing Anchors were formed
for a one-time-only cabaret at Washington Countys Fort Salem Theater in November, 2009. WNYT news anchor Benita
Zahn had been performing in musicals and cabarets at the Salem venue since new ownership renovated the legendary summer stock house in 2007. Ms. Zahn had appeared at a Albany
Red Cross benefit with her co-worker Jessica Layton and CBS6
anchor Jerry Gretzinger, and invited them to join her in Salem
for an evening of song. The trio clicked, and, musical directed
and accompanied by Fort Salems artistic director Jay Kerr, The
Singing Anchors easily and quickly became the Capital Regions
most requested musical attraction. Benita Zahn has been broadcasting in Albany for over thirty years, garnering Emmy nominations as her stations health reporter and easily most recognizable news anchor. She holds a doctorate in Bioethics and,
when not singing, acting, or anchoring, produces and hosts
HealthLink on WMHT. Miss Layton has reported from Haiti to
Hollywood, most recently the logical choice to follow the exploits of Sawyer Fredericks on NBCs The Voice. She and CBS
sportscaster Andrew Catalon are the proud parents of an eighteen-month-old son. Gretzinger came to Albany television from
stints in Providence and Springfield (MA) to co-anchor with
Liz Bishop for four years, until 2014, when he took a post as
vice president for Strategic Communications and Public Relations at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Colleges of Nanoscale
Science and Engineering. From time to time, the group performs on the road at venues throughout the Capital Region,
including MacHaydn Theatre, Saratoga City Center for First
Night, and Vapor at the Racino. They are repeat guests for the
Clifton Park-Halfmoon and Guilderland Library performance
series, and have headlined at benefits for Our Brothers Keeper,
the Lansingburgh Boys and Girls Clubs, the Watervliet Public
Library, St. Marys School (Hoosick Falls), and the Schenectady
ARC. Fort Salem Theater occupies two buildings, built in 1832
and 1886, on the site of a revolutionary war battle, in the center
of the historic section of the southern Washington County town.
Since 2007, the theater has produced original performances,
including The Anchors, which have gone on to have Life After
Salem, in Manhattan cabarets, off-Broadway, and in the Capital Region. Weve had several summer seasons of Farm-toTable Dinner Theater events with Salems Gardenworks Farm,
noted Fort Salems Kerr. Were looking forward to a great relationship with the folks at Mazzone. To that end, Mazzone
Hospitality will host another Salem production at the Clifton
Park Hilton Garden Inn, Sinatra 101: The Man, the Myth, and
the Music, starring Jerry Gretzinger, on Friday, April 15, 2016.
The Singing Anchors Valentines Day Show at the Clifton Park
Hilton Garden Inn will begin at 6 PM. Tickets for the dinner
and show, with complimentary beer and wine during the hors
doeuvres
course,

Hi, I am Loveable and it is my name as well.
I found myself at SCAC when I was found
as a stay. I am a talkative girl who is as
pretty as I am loveable. I am a friendly girl
who loves attention and to be around other
cats, dogs and kids. If there is a party,
dont forget to invite me because I like to
have fun but I can also be your main cuddle bug. Oh, I also
love treats so please come by SCAC, meet me and feed me
some treats please.
Hello, my name is Autumn and I found
myself at SCAC after some very nice
people found me and built me a shelter
to stay in until SCAC was ready for me.
I am a very sweet girl and my coast
looks like a bright fall morning as I was
named after this lovely season! I am a
friendly lap cat who loves to be held, petted and snuggled on
as the days get shorter and a bit cooler. I am a very people
friendly girl who would love to be your next family member!
If I sound like the missing piece to your familys puzzle, come
visit me as SCAC.
Hi my name is Mia! I am a 4 month old American Shelter Dog.
I am friendly, energetic, and happy. I
came to SCAC from another shelter that
couldnt accommodate me. I love to
cuddle and sit on your lap. I love to play
with toys and other dogs. I would be
best in a home with an experienced dog
owner. I can possibly go to a home with
older children, cats, and dogs upon
proper introduction. If I sound like I
could be your next family member, please come meet me at
SCAC!

VERMONT WILD AUTHOR MEGAN PRICE WILL BE PRESENT (weather permitting) FOR BOOK SIGNINGS FEBRUARY 6th IN WEST PAWLET AT THE 13TH ANNUAL WOODCHUCK FESTIVAL, by Janice B. Edwards, Freelance Writer
Beth Moser-Duquette, Vice President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire
Department, is pleased to announce that Vermont Wild author Megan Price will be present (weather
permitting) for book signings February 6th at the 13TH Annual Woodchuck Festival in West
Pawlet, Vermont. Author Price will be in the market area of the days event from 11:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. where she will be available for signings of her newest book, Vermont Wild Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens, Volume Four as well as all her other books, including Maine
Wild.
The Vermont Wild series, tales of wily poachers, persistent wardens and countless ironic
twists and turns have created a lot of the fun and laughs for readers. The stories have proven
popular with readers ages 9 to 99. Local wardens star in the new Vermont Wild book featuring
a charging bull moose on the cover. Retired game warden Norm Brown of Wells and deputy
warden Terry Williams of Poultney are among a half dozen men who contributed their true
stories to the newly released, Vermont Wild, Adventures of Fish & Game Wardens, Volume
Four.
A family of competitive deer hunters kept Williams on his toes, while Brown and a long list of
law officers spent years chasing the leader of a well-oiled poaching ring who operated throughout the Mettowee Valley region.
The new book contains more than 260 pages and 13 illustrated short stories. Retired wardens
Eric Nuse of Johnson, John Kapusta of Hardwick, Bob Lutz of Fairfax and Cabot residents, Ken
Denton and Walt Ackermann also contributed to the new book, the fifth in the series. Price was
born and raised in Rutland County, living many years in Fair Haven.
Vice President Moser-Duquette said that the Woodchuck Festival is a FUNd-Raiser event
sponsored jointly by the West Pawlet Ladies Auxiliary and the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department. It is a family day for all ages and is from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. She further explained
that many things will be going on throughout the day. There will be the terrific silent auction, a
craft vendor market with many hand-crafted and home-made items, and home-baked goods.
There will be the fun cow plop BINGO and Nicole ONeil of COLEE O CREATIONS will be
there to provide face painting fun for children. Little Angels Daycare will offer child care during
the events. There will be great food at the firemens Woodchuck Caf and at 1 p.m., Woodchuck
will arrive.
This annual event is held at Mettawee Community School, 5788 Vermont Route 153. All are
welcome. Please note: Mettawee Community School is a NO NUT zone environment. NUT
products are NOT permitted in any craft or baked good items. Contacts for questions about the
