Many people think that they can get sick by going into cold weather improperly
dressed; however, illnesses are not caused by temperature- they are caused by
germs. So while shivering outside in the cold probably wont strengthen your immune
system, youre more likely to contract an illness indoors because you will have a
greater exposure to germs.
A volcano begins as melted rock (magma) which rises from deep inside the earth toward
the surface. As the gas-filled magma rises, it melts gaps in the surrounding rock and
forms a large chamber. Pressure from the solid rock around it forces the magma up to
the surface through the conduit (channel) in a weakened part of the rock. The gas and
melted rock blast out an opening called the central vent. The erupted materials
gradually pile up around the vent, forming a volcano. A bowl-like crater generally forms
at the top of the volcano. The vent lies at the bottom of the crater.

It seems like there has been a surge in teen pregnancies these days. Teen
pregnancies make it very difficult for young mothers to pursue their dreams
and meet the demands of an infant. Fortunately, most teen pregnancies can be
easily prevented by using birth control; however, even birth control is not 100%
effective. The most effective way to prevent teen pregnancies is abstinence,
which is 100% effective.
My most valuable possession is an old, slightly warped blond guitar--the
first instrument I taught myself how to play. It's nothing fancy, just a
Madeira folk guitar, all scuffed and scratched and finger-printed. At the
top is a bramble of copper-wound strings, each one hooked through the
eye of a silver tuning key. The strings are stretched down a long, slim
neck, its frets tarnished, the wood worn by years of fingers pressing
chords and picking notes. The body of the Madeira is shaped like an
enormous yellow pear, one that was slightly damaged in shipping. No,
it's not a beautiful instrument, but it still lets me make music, and for
that I will always treasure it.
If you have to tangle with a toothy beast in the wild, youd better know a
bit about the kind of animal youre facing! You should first know that
alligators dont usually like to have humans for supper. They are shy
creatures. They would much rather snack on animals like birds, snakes,
and rabbits. But crocodiles are another story! They are mean hunters
that have been known to stalk and eat humans! The crocodile has a
slender body and a long, pointed snout. Alligators almost always live in
freshwater environments, like swamps, ponds, and rivers. Crocodiles
prefer calm saltwater homes. Alligators and crocodiles have some things
in common. Both are part of the crocodilian reptile group. They are coldblooded. They are most at home in warm climates. They both lay eggs
and have scaly skin. Most are a bit awkward on land, but they are

masters of the water. Crocodiles and alligators are sometimes called

natures submarines. They are truly amazing animals!
