Matthean Genealogy of Yeshua Ben Yosef

For some time, I have struggled to understand the genealogy of Yeshua as presented in the first
chapter of Mattityahu (Matthew)1 and in Luke, Chapter 3. After abandoning that quest for some
time, I have recently reapplied myself to getting understanding of the genealogy as presented in
Mattityahu. There are three things that I dont understand. First, when compared to the
genealogical record in the TANAK, i.e. the Torah, Nebiim, and Ketubim (or the Hebrew
Scriptures (HS)), there are four generations omitted in Mattityahu. These are, Ahaziah (2nd
Kings 8:24); Joash/Jehoash (2nd Kings 11:1-21, 1st Chronicles 3:11, 2nd Chronicles 22:1 and
24:1); Amaziah (2nd Kings 12:21 and 14:1 and 2nd Chronicles 24:7); and Eliakim/Jehoiakim
(2nd Kings 28:28-34, 1st Chronicles 3:15 and 2nd Chronicles 36:1-5).
Second, the son of Zerubbabel (Zorobabel in the KJV New Testament) is listed as Abiud in
Mattityahu, but the TANAK lists seven sons of Zerubbabel, i.e. Meshullam, Hananiah,
Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushabhesed (1st Chronicles 3:17-19). None of
these names appear to be related to Abiud in appearance or meaning. The closest names to
Abiud that I could find in the TANAK were Abihud and Ahihud descendants of Benjamin, the son
of Yaaqob/Yisrael (1st Chronicles 8:1-7). Also there is an Ahihud that was a son of Asher, the
son of Yaaqob/Yisrael (Numbers 34:27).
Thirdly, Mattityahu 1:17 states that from Abraham to David are fourteen generations. Inclusive
of Abraham and David there are indeed 14 generations, the same as listed in the TANAK.
Mattityahu 1:17 continues, and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen
generations. If the phrase and from David implies that the second set of 14 generations is
inclusive of David, then from David to Josias (Matthew 1:11 about the time they were carried
away to Babylon) again there are fourteen generations. However, it is this segment of the list
in Mattityahu that omits the first three of the four aforementioned generations included in the
TANAK. Verse 17 concludes, and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are
fourteen generations. However, the remaining generations listed in Mattityahu omit
Eliakim/Jehoiakim. Also from Jeconias to Yeshua are only 13 generations unless the phrase,
and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations implies that
Josias is to be counted twice. Notwithstanding counting David and Josias twice, as required to
arrive at the all-important generational count of 14, the genealogy in Mattityahu works only if
the previously identified four generations that are reflected in the TANAK (a core
component of the Christian Bible) are omitted.
As the TANAK apparently doesnt provide a record of the Seed Royal beyond Shealtiels seven
sons, are there any other records e.g. the Apocrypha or Works of Josephus that corroborate
Mattityahu's genealogy from Shealtiel to Yosef, Miriams (Marys) husband? I ask these
questions not to try to stump anyone or to challenge the veracity of Mattityahus account, but
merely to get understanding and reconcile Mattityahu with the TANAK.

A chart comparing the genealogical record in the Old Testament to that in the New Testament Matthew,
Chapter 1 is presented on page 2 of 2.

The names Joram and Jehoram have the same meaning as do Joash relative to Jehoash. The differences reflect different abbreviations of the Tetragrammaton.

Azariah & Uzziah have the same meaning. The root words in each relate to strength. Compare how the Hebrew word "Ezer" is translated in Exodus 15:2 to Psalm 121:2.
The identification of Shealtiel's father differs in 1st Chronicles from the post-exilic profits Ezra, Nehemiah, and Haggai
