Dear Mr. Tadd Peterson,
I am interested in joining your team as an intern and applying my creativity and design skills for the design
program with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am interested in the summer internship. I
learned about this internship from Marvin Gardner and the informational meeting at Brigham Young
University.
I am a senior at Brigham Young University with an English major and minors in editing, music, and art
history. I will graduate April 2016. My classes have taught me how to analyze carefully visual messages
whether magazine layouts, portraits, paintings, or commercialsthat we see in the world. Additionally,
recognizing the audience for specific visual messages is vital for any graphic design project.
My rigorous work as the Art Director for Mormon Insights in Winter 2015 lead to a job as the Art Advisor.
During this past year, I have improved my design skills and familiarity with Adobe programs, including
Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. My experience in instructing students about design and providing
constructive feedback to improve designs proves my qualifications. Additionally, I have received basic
training of copyright regulations, and I have presented to three Mormon Insight staffs about copyright each
semester.
From Fall 2014 through Winter 2015, I was the editor-in-chief of Stance: Studies on the Family. Because our
team did not have an art director, I did all the design work for the journals and advertisements to receive
submissions and invite people to join our team. In past semesters, I have also volunteered as a staff member
for the student publications of Criterion (a literary criticism publication), Schwa (a linguistic publication), and
Inscape (a creative writing publication). My strengths include designing for specific audiences, especially young
adults, writing, paying attention to detail, multitasking, resolving issues, and managing projects under tight
deadlines; these characteristics are essential for this internship.

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
