About e-beam
e-beam conforms with the
requirements of AS/NZS 4357
Structural Laminated Veneer
Lumber. It is manufactured by
laminating Maritime Pine and/or
Radiata Pine veneer, using phenolic
adhesive, in a continuous assembly
in which the grain direction of all
veneers runs longitudinally. It is
pressed as a 1.2m nominal width
continuous billet in various standard
thicknesses, cut to standard widths
and any specified length for use as
structural beams and other framing
components.

Timberbuilt Pty Ltd are an independent Consulting Engineering firm,
experienced and qualified in timber engineering design.
All roof beams must be installed and restrained in accordance with the
guidelines in this brochure, AS1684 and good building practice. For Strutting
beams with a depth to breadth ratio greater than 3, they must be laterally
restrained at mid-span and support points.
Possible methods of achieving the required lateral restraint are shown below.
Where a Strutting beam is used to support hanging beams (Strutting /
Counter beams), the fixing of the Hanging beam to the Strutting beam may
be assumed to provide adequate lateral restraint.

Introduction
to e-beam2
If you have worked with Wesbeam LVL products before, you know how light,
easy and fast they are to use. What you might not realise is it is now possible
to completely replace steel strutting beams with Wesbeam LVL. To help you
select and install the right e-beams for the job, weve created the e-beam2
roof beam system.
With the e-beam2 specification system, it takes just 3 quick steps to select
the right beams for any job.
Step 1
Calculate the Width Of Roof (WOR) applied to the roof beam using the
method illustrated on page 33.
Step 2
Is the roofing material metal sheet or tile?
Step 3
Does the beam require a splay cut greater than 2/3s of its depth?
No: use the e-beam tables on pages 34 and 35.
Yes: use the e-splay tables on pages 36 and 37 for single splay
or pages 38 and 39 for double splay.

Notes:
2. All roof and ceiling members (ceiling joists, hanging beams, rafters,
underpurlins) running perpendicular to the beam in question are to be
supported in line with the next parallel support.
3. All spans and distances are measured on plan (horizontal plane).
4. Roof pitch has been allowed in the calculation of beams in these tables.
Maximum roof pitch is 35.

e-ledger
Wesbeams e-ledger eliminates the need to notch secondary LVL strutting
beams when connecting two LVL strutting beams at angles other than 90.
This is a major advance for specifiers as the current practice of notching the
secondary beam into a pine ledger significantly reduces the maximum load
capacity of the connection.
e-ledger provides an easy to install solution for all load conditions contained
in the e-beam2 tables.

e-strut engineered LVL roof struts to support stick roofs for tile and
metal sheet cladding.
e-struts offer minimum material and time wastage when used with e-purlins in
the fabrication of stick roofs. Engineered e-struts are highly consistent in their
performance and dimensional stability. They have superior compressive strength
which resists the dynamic loads associated with high wind coastal conditions. And
e-struts are available in lengths of 3.6m and 4.5m which enables design flexibility for
the most complex roof shapes.
e-struts are compartively lighter than timber products, making them safer to handle.

FAQs
59
are beams supported at three or more points along their length. Continuous span
values given in the tables should only be used where:-
Terminology
a) The beam is not notched or partially cut through at internal support points and,
b) If the spans are not equal, the largest span is not greater that twice
the smallest adjacent span.
However if either of the above conditions are not met, use the singe span tables
forthelargest span to obtain the appropriate size.
Overhang Span
(sometimes referred to as cantilever)
the distance from the face of the support to the free end of the beam, measured
alongthe beam.
Spacing
Tables such as for rafters, floor joists and ceiling joists require the spacing of members
to be known or selected so you can obtain the required size for a given span.
Spacing should be interpreted as the center to centre distance between adjacent
parallelmembers.
Roof Load Width (RLW) is used in these tables to determine the load applied to isolated
roof beams such as strutting beams etc. Roof load width (RLW), are measures of
the load applied from roofs. RLW should be determined in accordance with AS 1684
Residential timber-framed construction.
Ceiling Load Width (CLW) is used in these tables to determine the load applied to
singleroof beams such as hanging beams, strutting-hanging beams etc. CLW are
measures of the load applied from ceilings. CLW should be determined in accordance
with AS 1684 Residential timber framing construction.
Roof Mass
Roof mass has been separated into two categories related to the type of roof
cladding sheet and tile roof only. The roof masses are set forth in AS1684 Residential
timber-framed construction.

e-house
e-house [beam]
e-house [beam] is our individual beam sizing software that has 55 member
types available, 3D drawings, the option to load multiple, wood-based
structural products, has a powerful sorting function to sort outputs by
product, price, strength and stiffness, the ability to link prices to products,
uses graphic-designed output sheet for greater clarity, ability to add your
company logo and details to the output sheet and the option to include
indicative pricing on the output sheet.
e-house [floor]
e-house [floor] is our software application for easy and fast design of floor
frames, drawing in a three dimensional space and producing documentation
with 2D and 3D images.
e-house [stick]
e-house [stick] is the software to use for easy and fast design and
engineering analysis of stick roofs. The ability to customise both the 2D and
3D images directly assists the carpenter to construct the roof in accordance
with the plan and in compliance with the Building Code of Australia.
e-house [WoH]
e-house [WoH] whole of house is the only software that integrates and
automates all major design elements when specifying and engineering
the building components for wood framed structures under Australian
conditions. e-house [WoH] is the only software that tracks loads, both
dynamic and static, from ridge to stumps enabling optimization of an
integrated framing structure.
Designed to meet the exacting requirements of engineers, architects,
drafting and estimating professionals, e-house [WoH] reduces design time
and provides efficient solutions for pitching or trussing a roof, framing a floor
or bridging an opening.
