Defect 265697, which fixes this issue, is included in Brocade Fabric OS version v6.3.0b
BULLETIN OVERVIEW
FICON customers that have configured ASM Mode (i.e. Active=Saved Mode, for the CUP
port connectivity configuration parameter in the PDCM/allow/prohibit matrix), could
experience an unexpected change to port block states after a reboot.
Brocade produces and publishes Technical Support Bulletins to OEMs, partners and customers that have a
direct, entitled, support relationship in place with Brocade.
Please contact your primary service provider for further information regarding this topic and applicability for your
environment.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
In Brocade FOS v6.2.0e, when changing port block states from the host interface with
Active=Saved Enabled, the correct blocked/unblocked state is not saved in the switch IPL
file. After a cold reboot or power on event, the blocked/unblocked state of effected ports
will not be properly restored to the state of the previous Active Configuration. See
workaround below.
RISK ASSESSMENT
All FICON customers running Brocade FOS v6.2.0e with ASM enabled are at risk. Any
changes made to port blocked state will not be saved to the IPL file.
No operational affect will be observed until a cold reboot operation is performed.
If there were no changes to the port blocked state since the previous cold reboot, then there
is no risk from this defect.
SYMPTO MS
The port blocked state can unexpectedly change after a cold reboot or power on event.
WORKAROUND
If any port blocked state configuration changes have been made since running at Brocade
FOS 6.2.0e, use Web Tools, enable Active=Saved and re-activate the active configuration
by perform the following steps;
1)
Using Web Tools, read/refresh the Active configuration (Open Internet Explorer
and launch Web Tools (WT).
2) Select appropriate Logical Switch
3) Select - Switch Admin
4) Select - Show Advanced Mode
5) Select - FICON CUP
6) Select CUP Port Connectivity from the FMS Tab
7) You will be presented with a list of files
8) Select active Configuration,
9) Click - Edit button
10) You will be presented with port matrix
11) Click Refresh button
12) Click Activate Button (this will save the active config to IPL File)

13)
14)
15)
16)
17)
The code path used in the CUP will be a file activation path rather than an individual portblock update request, and will correctly use (copy) the port block attribute of the file being
activated.
This workaround may only be practical for customers that are not using Host Automated
Operations or Safe Switching.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Customers that have not made any port blocking state changes while running Brocade FOS
v6.2.0e should upgrade to Brocade FOS 6.3.0b before making any port blocking changes.
Customers that have made port blocking state changes while running Brocade FOS v6.2.0e
should first perform the workaround before the upgrade to Brocade FOS v6.3.0b to ensure
port block information.
