Crime Analysis Overview

Date: 2/5/2016
Topic: Arrests Where Only Charge is Possession of Marijuana Up To Ounce
Purpose: Gain a better understanding of the distribution of arrests where the arrestee was only charged with
possession of marijuana up to ounce or less (charge code 3550).
Long-Term Trends: CMPD has had a steady decline in these arrests. We experienced a -41.8% decrease when
comparing 2015 (383 arrests) to the 5-year average 2010-2014 (658 arrests). Almost all patrol divisions have trended
downward over this time period.

The highest concentrations of these 2015 arrests occurred in the following areas:
16 arrests in the West Bv / Remount Rd area (Westover Division)
13 arrests in the I-85 / W Sugar Creek Rd area (North Tryon Division)
13 arrests in the Beatties Ford Rd / Catherine Simmons Av area (Metro Division)
11 arrests in the Albemarle Rd / Farm Pond Ln area (Hickory Grove Division)
10 arrests in the Remount Rd / Brookhill Rd area (Westover Division)
9 arrests in the Milton Rd / E WT Harris Bv area (Hickory Grove Division)
These 6 small areas account for almost 20% of the total arrests (383) where the arrestee was only charged with
possession of marijuana up to ounce or less (charge code 3550).
