(2) Each Compressor Package can be operated individually using Tank Pressure signal
from DCS, PY-864 which is used to control the Slide Valve ZT-01A/B/C operation.
All 3 Compressor Packages can also be operated in Parallel in the Autostage Mode
using PY-864. The possible sequence of startup for the 3 compressor packages are as
followed: ABC, BCA, CAB, ACB, BAC and CBA.
(3) This system can be started up in the following modes;i) LOP Local Start Mode:
-
Each Compressor Skid has a Local Operator Panel (LOP). When the Selector
Switch HS-02CA/B/C is switched to LOCAL, this specific compressor will
then be able to be started in this Mode by pressing the Start Pushbutton HS02AA/B/C. The same rules apply when stopping the Compressor in this
Mode with Stop Pushbutton HS-02BA/B/C.

This mode has the similar criteria as of (ii), except under Common HOA
page the Package System Mode should be set to REMOTE. In this Mode,
individual compressors can be started from DCS which has Remote
Start/Stop Pushbuttons for individual compressor packages.
The criteria to run the system in this mode are, Selector Switch SEL-01A/B/C
is switched to REMOTE, under HMI Common HOA page the Package
System Mode should be set to LOCAL and the Autostage Selection should be
set to AUTOSTAGE. In this Mode, all compressors are controlled within the
Logic program. The Lead Compressor will kick start when PY-864 reaches
more than 40 g/cmG (Adjustable Setpoint).The 1st and 2nd Lag Compressors
will be started or stopped according to PY-864. During this Mode, when PY864 drops below 26 g/cmG (Adjustable Setpoint), the system will commence
stop sequence starting from the 2nd Lag, 1st Lag then the Lead Compressor.
The criteria to run the system in this mode are similar to (iv), except under
HMI Common HOA page the Package System Mode should be set to
REMOTE. The Start and Stop criteria is exactly the same as (iv).
(4) Detail process and control explanation can be found in the next section under Control
Philosophy.
(5) Note that all the sequence for start, monitoring, alarms and trips will be active all the
time.

CONTROL PHILOSOPY
(2) When chosen to run independently, operator can decide on how many compressor
packages to run depending on the load requirement. The compressor package started
will go through the standard start sequence.
i) After completed idling, after 30 sec (unload position) the compressor slide valve
ZT-01A/B/C will load and unload depending on the PID Loop PIC-01A/B/C. In
this PID Loop, the PV used is PY-864.
ii) The Capacity Control for the specific compressor package can also be set to
MANUAL if required. In this mode the compressor slide valve is activated to
LOAD or UNLOAD by manipulating the soft keys at the control panel HMI.
iii) Another method of manual capacity control will be switching the control mode
for PIC-01A/B/C to MANUAL. Operator MUST input the desired slide valve
position in the Man CV.
(3) When chosen to run in Autostage mode, all compressor packages will be control
within the logic program. After selecting the sequence of which the compressors
should start and ensuring all criteria are met, the operator will be able to engage the
autostage process by selecting the AutoStage Softkey on the HMI. When PY-864
reaches more than 40 g/cmG (Adjustable Setpoint), the lead compressor will start up
and will go through the standard start sequence. All slide valves will still be control
using PIC-01A/B/C.

iii) At any time if PY-864 drops below 26 g/cmG (Adjustable Setpoint), the
compressors will go through the normal shutdown sequence in the order reverse
of the sequence selection. The last started compressor will shutdown first.
iv) When the system is running in autostage control, operator can switch the
compressors to individual control. The process is not reversible once the
compressor packages are switched to individual control. The operator can do the
following;-
Switch one of the HS-02CA/B/C selector switch to LOCAL on the LOP. The
compressor package with the selector switch changed to LOCAL will be
allowed to be shutdown in LOP mode. The other 2 compressor packages will
be switched to HMI Local mode and allowed to be shut down from HMI
individually. If the system is started from Remote Autostage, the package
mode will automatically switch from Remote to LOCAL.
Disengage
(5) It is important to take note that for remote autostage, only 3 selections are available:
ABC, BCA and CAB. In the event if the logic program re-organized the sequence due
to one of the compressor packages trip and the sequence is not one of the three
selections for remote autostage (e.g. ACB), the logic program will automatically
switch back to HMI Autostage Mode.

The following explains the start sequence for 1 compressor package. In the event of more than 1
compressor package is started, the common instruments will take priority of the first compressors
command. The start sequence is standard for all 3 compressors regardless of the Startup Mode.
Once the compressor is started, the following sequence is executed via the programmed logic in the
PLC control panel:
a. The control start sequence will confirm that all the permissive signals are in the safe position
for compressor start. (See above). That includes the Slide valve ZT-01A/B/C at minimum
position < 5%. If the ZT-01 is not < 5% because last start up was due for a trip condition, the
operator most manually start the Oil pump and sent unload command from the HMI until ZT01 A/B/C is less than 5%. Then manually stop the Oil pump and wait for the 10 minutes Oil
pump stop timer. Permissive signal will turn green in the HMIs Start Sequence Page. If the
signal remained red, the compressor-starting sequence does not proceed.
b. Automatically check if TRIP conditions other than the permissive conditions do exist. If
common and package TRIP conditions do not exist, the starting sequence continues. Otherwise,
the compressor-starting sequence does not proceed.
c. The solenoid valve SV-1501 and PID LOOP for LIQUID RECEIVER LEVEL CONTROL
VALVE (LCV-1501) will be energized and PID controller LIC-01 will starts to control Liquid
Level in the Liquid Receiver by monitoring LT-01.
d. The solenoid valve SV-101 and PID LOOP for ECONOMIZER LIQUID LEVEL CONTROL
VALVE (LCV-101) will be energized and PID controller LIC-02 will start to control Liquid
Level in the Economizer by monitoring LT-2.

e. Verify that PT-03A/B/C (discharge pressure) is less than 5 kg/cm, (adjustable set point). That
is minimum skid pressure to continue the startup sequence. If the pressure is bigger than the set
point, the Logic will open the XV-073 Blowdown valve until PT-03 < Startup set point. Once
XV-073 is closed the sequence continue whit the next step.
f. A signal is generated to start the oil pump motor 32-MP-802-A/B/C and a readback signal from
the MCC, for the oil pump motor indicating motor running will be sent back to the PLC and the
motor symbol will turn GREEN. This will occur within 3 seconds.
g. If the read back motor running signal is not received within the time set of 3 seconds, a package
trip signal is generated and start-up sequence aborted.
h. The lube oil pressure differential PDI-01A/B/C should be greater than 1.5 kg/cm.
i. After passing all the conditions described above, a start signal to start the compressor motor
32-MC-801-A/B/C is generated from the PLC to the MCC after 10 seconds delay. Then
compressor motor running signal MSRB is received in the PLC from MCC. If no feedback
signal is received within 3 seconds, the compressor-starting sequence is aborted and a trip
signal is generated.
j. Compressor main driver runs with compressor capacity (slide valve) loaded to min loading
position (adjustable setpoint) and left to run for 30 seconds (idling mode).
ii. During normal operation if the main motor current IT-01A/B/C is detected to be higher
than the set point (adjustable setpoint) at the HMI, the slide valve position will be
limited to load or will be forced to unload.

MANUAL Mode
In this mode, the compressor slide valve can be loaded and unloaded via the LOAD & UNLOAD
soft key buttons from the HMI MANUAL MODE of the local control panel. This is accomplished by
the generated signal from the PLC to activate the solenoid valves of the compressor slide valve
selected. Oil pump must be running before the slide valve can Load or Unload.
LIQUID LEVEL CONTROL
Liquid Level control of this system consist of a solenoid valve SV-1501 and a Level control valve
LCV-1501, where the PLC logic will control the opening and closing of the valve base on the PID
calculation.
The solenoid valve has three modes of operation, HAND, OFF, and AUTO mode. Either one of
the three modes is selected by setting the soft selector switch from the HMI of the local control panel.
HAND Mode
In this mode, the Liquid Level Control solenoid valve SV-1501 is energized and de-energized
locally by the HAND and OFF soft key buttons from the HMI. This mode is usually used to perform
stroke test on the valve before starting the system.
OFF Mode
In this mode, the Liquid Level Control solenoid valve SV-1501 is electrically isolated and is deenergized. Usually this mode is incorporated for maintenance purposes.
AUTO Mode
In this mode, the Liquid Level Control solenoid valve SV-1501 is energized and de-energized
automatically by a signal generated by the PLC program built in the local control panel installed.
The level controller LIC-01 built in the PLC of the local control panel is used to control the Liquid
Receiver Level.
The Liquid Level Control Valve LCV-1501 will vary its opening to maintain liquid NH3 level in the
receiver.
