Experience Summary:

Worked in the Las Campanas Compadres Therapeutic Riding Program with disabled individuals, during the
summer of 2013 in who were between the ages of 5-35. Kept them calm while riding a horse, often
encouraging them to keep the horse straight and helped create innovate ideas in order to help the people
who are more severely disabled, like creating special seat designs.
Mentored girls ages 9-13 in Georgia OKeeffe Art and Leadership Program, during the summer of
2013with development of problem-solving and planning skills. Helped them focus on a task, build
confidence, and reach out and connect to their community by creating activities that challenged their
leadership skills and helped them grow.
Helped preschoolers 4-5 years of age, in the Reading Buddies Program during the spring semester of 2014
to listen to stories and use bilingual skills to begin use of reading and communication skills.

Challenges:

Had to refocus the children in Reading Buddies to listen as a story was being explained. Also had to
explain to them why it was necessary to pay attention to what was being said so that they could get the
most out of their learning experience.
It was challenging to make certain that the disabled individuals in the Las Campanas Compadres
Therapeutic Riding Program were successful in their attempts, and that they gained confidence.
Learning to work with creative minds in the Georgia OKeeffe Art and Leadership program and the
different approaches of the girls and the college interns to bring about cohesiveness.
