I dont know how you feel about all of the rubbish on

the side of the roads and in the parks. It makes me
very angry and very disappointed with my
community. Who are these people and why do they
do this?

Did you know that Queensland is consistently

one of the worst mainland states for littering?
We pay for this. You and me. Every time the council
or park rangers have to remove the rubbish illegally
dumped, it is money that is coming from our pockets.
Money and resources that should be used providing
facilities and services for all of us.
Littering has serious environmental impacts and is a
considerable resource and financial burden for
government, business and the community.
Littered items are one of the most visible forms of
pollution in the environment. It makes our
communities appear dirty and uncared for, and
unpleasant to be in.
It also impacts on the environment. Litter can be
responsible for injuring or killing wildlifethey can
become entangled in fishing line and other plastics, or
mistake plastic for food.

Consider this scenario: You clean out your chook pen pick up the droppings, sweep up all the feathers and
putrid straw, collect the odd chicken carcass or two,
and put the lot in a big Storage King carton.
Now what to do with the box?
Not many people would consider dumping this foul
waste in a stunning conservation park, but that's
exactly what some low-life did recently in Plunkett just 20 metres into the Park off Quinzeh Creek Road (a
few hundred metres north of Chardon Bridge Road).
The stink alone from this pile is enough to attract
every feral (animal this time, not human) within
kilometres. And we know the damage they can do in
our own backyards, let alone a nature reserve.

of rubbish behaviour, please contact

OUR VIOLENT SOCIETY

Our families and communities are being damaged by
violence. Violence is in our homes, schools and streets,
destroying the lives, dignity and hopes of us all. Fear of
violence is also dividing our community.
The constant portrayal of violence in the media, music and
video games is at the heart of a growing culture of
violence.
Our greatest challenge is to examine our own lives, to
identify how we can choose generosity over selfishness,
and choose a real commitment to family and community
over individual acquisition and ambition.
In many small ways, each of us can help overcome violence
by dealing with our own disrespectful or abusive
behaviour; or, just by treating fellow motorists with
courtesy. Violence is overcome day by day, choice by
choice, person by person. All of us must make a
contribution.

PROTECT YOURSELF ON-LINE

Fraud committed via links in unexpected emails,
texts, or email attachments, is all too common, with
millions affected every year.
So are phone calls from strangers claiming to be from
your bank, your credit card company or the police
but who are actually fraudsters.
This Is called social engineering which cunningly
manipulates you into a position where you can be
scammed. The scams range from simple emails to
complex multiple phone calls. Whichever the
method, they are designed to steal your money or
your identity, or both.
DONT BECOME A VICTIM: READ THESE SIMPLE TIPS
Never give out usernames, passwords, PINs, ID
numbers or memorable phrases.
Be very careful that you only supply payment
card or other confidential information to
companies you know are genuine. Even then,
never reveal passwords. A bank will never ask
you for your password or PIN via email.
Never click on email attachments from unknown
sources as they could contain malware. Delete
them, and report if appropriate.
Do not click on links in emails from senders you
do not know.
Even if you get an email that seems to come from
someone you might know but it seems irregular
or out of character the sender may be a
fraudster who has hacked into their email. If in
doubt, call (but do not email) the sender.
Do not attach external storage devices like USB
sticks or hard drives or insert CD-ROMs/DVDROMs into your computer if uncertain of the
source. This is a favourite way for fraudsters to
spread malware.

Stay safe with alcohol

Whether you are at home or in public, you should
drink responsibly and behave in a way that is
respectful to the people around you. Remember to:

Count your drinks - keep track of how much alcohol

you are drinking.
Drink slowly and put your glass down between sips.
Don't let people top up your drinks.
Eat before or while you are drinking. Avoid salty
snacks, as these make you drink more.
Avoid 'shouts' - drink at your own pace or buy a
non-alcoholic drink when it's your turn. Don't be
pressured into drinking more than you want to.
Pace yourself - try having a 'spacer' or a nonalcoholic drink every second or third drink.
Stay busy - if you have something to do, you tend to
drink less such as playing pool or dancing.
Try the low-alcohol alternative - light beers and low
alcohol premixed drinks are available.

You can be affected by alcohol from the very first

drink. At the very least, you could act in a way that's
embarrassing or regretful at worst you could be
involved in a life changing event.
And remember drinking alcohol during pregnancy
raises the risks of birth defects, learning difficulties
and behaviour problems for your baby.
Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) is both a philosophy
and an approach to working together as a community
to reduce crime and enhance community safety.
Neighbourhood Watch Queensland (NHWQ)
encourages communities to work together to improve
the safety of their families and other people, who live,
visit and do business in their Neighbourhood. It also
encourages interaction and a shared sense of
responsibility between individuals, neighbours and
communities for preventing and reducing crime.

ILLEGAL USE OF FIREWORKS - ITS JUST NOT ON

Public fireworks displays are fun events, but illegal

use of fireworks isnt funny.
Illegal use of fireworks can be dangerous to you and
others and is a public nuisance. People who use
fireworks carelessly or without knowing what
theyre doing can be killed or maimed. They can also
kill or maim others.
Fireworks can burn down houses, frighten children,
cause bushfires, and terrify pets and wildlife.
Illegal use of fireworks is an offence and carries a
maximum penalty in excess of $47,000 or six months
imprisonment. Also, if you are responsible for the loss
or injury of an expensive animal through your illegal
use of fireworks, you may be sued for damages.
