The three components of culture are:

Products Practices Perspectives

The “WHAT” The “HOW” The “WHY”

Products: The products of the culture are what the culture of a people produces. It is the “What?” of a culture.
Practices: The practices of the culture are what people DO, or the way people act, in a certain culture.
Practices are the “How?” of the culture.
Perspectives: The perspective is the “Why?” behind what a culture has or what a culture does. It is the way
people in a culture think. Why? Because….

“Through learning language, we learn culture. Through learning culture, we learn respect for others.
Through learning respect for others we can hope for PEACE.”

Why do we study culture?

Why study Spanish?

1. To travel to 21 Spanish-speaking countries.
2. To communicate with the 400,000,000 people in the world who speak Spanish.
3. Because it’s a requirement in High School and College.
4. Jobs. You can make more money in the same job if you are bilingual. And speaking Spanish makes you
more competitive in the job market.
5.You will perform better in your other classes. Statistics show that students who do well in foreign
language classes perform better in their other subjects.
6. Culture and Pop Culture. Through learning language we learn culture and we are better able to
understand and respect different people. We are also able to access pop culture (like music with Spanish
lyrics).
