Spiritual Distress
Definition of Spiritual Distress - Spiritual distress is a

disturbance in a person's belief system. As an approved
nursing diagnosis, Spiritual Distress is defined as "a
disruption in the life principle that pervades a person's
entire being and that integrates and transcends one's
biological and psychological nature."
Five spiritual needs of forgiveness, hope, trust, meaning of
life, and Purpose of life

Forgiveness Forgiveness is the intentional and

voluntary process by which a victim undergoes a change in
feelings and attitude regarding an offense, lets go of
negative emotions such as vengefulness, with an increased
ability to wish the offender well.
Hope Hope is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an

expectation of positive outcomes related to events and
circumstances in one's life or the world at large.
Trust
A trust is a relationship whereby property is held

by one party for the benefit of another
Assured reliance on the character, ability,
strength, or truth of someone or something
Meaning of Life The meaning of life, or the answer to

the question "What is the meaning of life?", pertains to
the significance of living or existence in general.
Purpose of Life
Expresses verbally and behaviorally
It is associated by some factors include physiological

problem, treatment of related concerns and situational
concerns
Antecedents of spiritual distress: loneliness, fear of
unknown, guilt or expression of regrets, anger towards God or
a supreme being, loss of hope and change in relationships,
values and beliefs

locate meaning and purpose in life.
