Regulation I/6
Training and assessment

Each Party shall ensure that:


.1 the training and assessment of seafarers, as required
under the Convention, are administered, supervised and
monitored in accordance with the provisions of section A-I/6 of
the STCW Code

Section A-I/6
Training and assessment

1 Each Party shall ensure that all training and assessment of


seafarers for certification under the Convention is:
.1 structured in accordance with written programmes,
including such
methods and media of delivery
procedures, and
course material
as are necessary to achieve the prescribed standard of
competence

Section A-I/8
Quality standards

2 The field of application of the quality standards shall cover the


administration of the certification system, all training
courses and programmes, examinations and assessments
carried out by or under the authority of a Party and the
qualifications and experience required of instructors and
assessors, having regard to the policies, systems, controls
and internal quality assurance reviews established to ensure
achievement of the defined objectives.

OOW (GT500)

2 Every candidate for certification shall:


Officer in charge of a navigational watch
(OOW) (GT500)
12 months onboard training (cadet), part of an approved training

programme documented in a TRB

OOW (GT500)

Onboard training
6 Every candidate for certification whose seagoing service
forms part of an approved training programme shall follow an
approved programme of onboard training which:
.1 ensures that the candidate receives systematic practical
training and experience in the tasks, duties and
responsibilities of an OOW

.2 is closely supervised and monitored by qualified officers


.3 is adequately documented in a training record book

Section A-II/3
OOW (GT<500) NCV

Special training
6 Every candidate for certification as OOW (GT<500) NCV who
is required to have completed special training, shall follow an
approved programme of onboard training which:
.1 ensures that the candidate receives systematic practical
training and experience in the tasks, duties and
responsibilities of an OOW

.2 is closely supervised and monitored by qualified officers


.3 is adequately documented in a training record book

Guidance regarding the certification of AB deck

Onboard training should be documented in an approved


training record book

Regulation III/1
OEW (kW750)

2 Every candidate for certification shall:


Officer in charge of an engineering watch
(OEW) (kW750)
12 months combined workshop skills training & seagoing service, part of an

approved training programme, which includes onboard training (cadet)


documented in a TRB

Electro-technical Officer (ETO)

12 months combined workshop skills training & segoing service, part of an

approved training programme, which includes onboard training (cadet)


documented in a TRB
