Acknowledgement
In the accomplishment of this, many people were
there to help us finish this investigatory project in
Science so we would like to give them
acknowledgement.

We would like to thank God for being able to

complete this project with success. We would also
like to thank our Science Teacher Ms. Arlene Reyes

who gave us guidance in making this project and

for helping us in making this successful.

We would also like to thank our parents and friends

who
helped us by saying suggestions and saying their
own opinions
and ideas to us for the completion of this project.

Introduction
Sampaguita is a pure white, small, dainty, starshaped blossom. Sampaguita (Jasminum sambac)
is a sweetly scented tropical flower. Belonging to
the wide genus of Jasmines (Jasminum),
Sampaguita is the common name of the species

Jasminum sambac. Sampaguita is also known

as Philippine Jasmine, Arabian jasmine, Pikake in
Hawaii, Grand Duke of Tuscany, Kampupot,
and Melati.

The species Jasminum sambac is native to

southern Asia, in India, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.
Sampaguita is serving as the National Flower for
two countries - Philippines and Indonesia. The
beautiful ornamental Sampaguita blooms cover the
glossy green leafed bushed type ever bloomer. The
Sampaguita is also well known in Asia for its use in
teas and religious offerings, symbolizing divine
hope.

A perfume is a fragrant liquid typically made from

essential oils extracted from flowers and spices,
used to impart a pleasant smell to one's body or
clothes. An organic perfume is a perfume that is
natural and doesnt contain any harsh chemicals
that can cause damage to the person using it.

Statement of the Problem

Main Problem:
This study aimed to find out if the Sampaguita,
which is our National Flower, can be used to make
a pleasant organic perfume. This study also aimed
to answer the following questions:
Sub-Problems:
1)
Is the organic perfume better than the nonorganic perfumes? Why?
2)
Who can use the organic/sampaguita
perfume?
3)
What are the procedures in making a
sampaguita perfume?
4)
Is there a specific expiration for this
product?
5)
Is the sampaguita perfume better than the
other organic perfumes?

Hypothesis
Hypothesis/Scientific Guess:

1)
The sampaguita can be used as an organic
perfume since it is a flower that smells good.
2)
The organic perfume can be better than
non-organic since it is handmade and natural.
3)
We think that the organic perfume can be
used by everyone since its natural.
4)
There are ways to make an organic
perfume and we will make you know the
procedures in the next part of this IP.
5)
We think theres no specific expiration but
we think it can lasts up to one year since its
organic.
6)
Sampaguita is not that better but
Sampaguita can be bought anywhere.

Significance of the Study

Perfumes are being used by many people everyday.
We are not aware of the negative effects of the
perfumes that we are using. Perfumes contain harsh
chemicals like acetone, benzaldehyde, benzyl acetate,
benzyl alcohol, camphor, ethanol, ethyl acetate,
limonene, linalool, methylene chloride, a-pinene, gterpinene and a-terpineol. These chemicals are
capable of causing cancer, birth defects, central
nervous system disorders and allergic reactions.

Therefore we are making this investigatory project to

make an alternative for the perfumes we know. We
will be making a perfume that is organic, a perfume
that is for everyone, a perfume that is mild but can
lasts longer and a perfume that wont have that
negative effects in our health.

This study will promote awareness on the perfumes

that we are using because it can cause health
problems or skin irritation. We must be careful on
choosing what well use, and we want to prove that
people must choose organic perfumes rather than
non-organic perfumes.

Scope/Limitation
Scope:
There are many flowers that can be used to
make an organic perfume but we will only be
using the Sampaguita that is found anywhere in
our country. We will be testing/using the
perfume so we will know if the Sampaguita
organic perfume can be an alternative to the
perfumes that are used by many people around
the world.

Limitation:
In this investigatory project, we will be limiting
ourselves to using sampaguita flowers that we
bought in Loreto Church, vodka, distilled water
and a perfume bottle. This project would only
check if the Sampaguita can be used as an
effective perfume for all of us.

Objectives
1)
To make an alternative for
perfumes that is bad for our health.
2) To develop an interest in using
organic perfumes rather than using
the perfumes we are used to.
3) To let the people know what are the
benefits of using Sampaguita perfume.
4) To let the people know what are the
negative effects of the perfumes were
using.
5) To prove that Sampaguita is a great
organic perfume.

Review of Related Literature

Jasminum Sambac commonly known as
Sampaguita plant is native to southern Asian
countries of India, Sri Lanka and Myanmar. Besides,
it is grown in most tropical countries and some
parts of China as well as South Pacific regions. It
has gained a status of national flower in Indonesia
and the Philippines. This flower belongs to the
jasmine family and exudes the characteristic rich
fragrance peculiar to this genus. It is a small white
flower which grows on a climbing plant.
Sampaguita can grow in almost any soil as long as
it receives sunlight and warm weather. Let us delve
deeper into the meaning of the Sampaguita flower.
Sampaguita's distinct sweet, heady fragrance is its
unique feature. The essential oil from the flowers is
similar to jasmin (Jasminum grandiflores).
Sampaguita flowers do not bear seeds; therefore
the plant is cultivated by cuttings. Sampaguita was
imported into the Philippines in the 17th century
from Himalayan areas. The Sampaguita is a native
part of the Philippine landscape for centuries. The
plant is originally from India and is grown

throughout India today. About eight cultivars are

generally listed for Sampaguita. Some varieties of
Sampaguitas can grow as large as small roses in
India.

According to the product that we made, it was

fragrant and applicable to all people since it was
natural and organic, but we can not say it is better
than the perfumes that are using chemicals since
its smell cant last longer than them. We also cant
say that the sampaguita perfume is better than the
other organic perfumes that are using oils like
lemon-grass, geranium, neroli, and ylang-ylang

since its smell is not that strong. The product cant

be an alternative for the perfumes with chemical
but it if you want to use an organic perfume, you
can try this Sampaguita since it is very easy to do,
Sampaguita can be bought anywhere and if you
dont mind spraying it on your body everytime to
get that pleasant smell, you can. And also, organic
perfume can lasts up to 2 years or less.

Recommendation
The researchers recommend to study
more about the effects of the organic
perfume in our body and in different kinds
of fabric. The researchers recommend
that in making organic perfumes, you can
mix oils to come up with a unique smell.
We also recommend them to use a strong
smelling flower or oil rather than
Sampaguita which is not that strong when
mixed with water and vodka.
