"Random Thoughts"

I. Summary/Abstract
The article talks about how time is consumed through different aspects of reality on time
orientation. It also said that in the past years, time is occupied with activities of mankind. Time
orientations - present, past and future, people were oriented on present. Accordingly, to some people the
past and the future are of no significance for which it's only can only be determined by fate. Others view
time as past which people valued what's happened in their past.
Furthermore, punctuality-conscious culture like Germany, Switzerland and America from which
they used to live to a culture of time. Clearly, present are the culture's choice of words such as "Where
they spend time, save time or waste time. For them, time is gold or valuable. Valued for success and
achievement are based on adherence to time-keeping. However, in education, academics and professional
assignments are timetabled and obey strict time deadlines. This orientation has implication on what was
encountered with the students. Present oriented students are more wont to delight the pleasures available
in the present. For example, there is an exam, the students would usually cram in the last minute cause
they likely to use time for short-term satisfactions. Such students were usually rash in accomplishing
tasks.
Similarly, based on the author's account, time is somewhat related to our elder's life's lesson
teachings. Either a whip or a thick belt from which there were no long sermons and time still remains
gold; less time used in sermons and family members had more time for banding. The authors also
questioned herself as a past-oriented. Zimbardo explains such tendency that positive experiences of one's
past give one "a sense of personal continuity or a stable sense of self overtime, a sense of rootedness."
One may be past oriented as to one's experience with family traditions and cherished practices and past
realities while being open to those which are new and more efficient. Other persons are future-oriented.
They are usually look-out for economic development, state of political affairs and improved government
services. As to students, this is when they study for the future result if their exams. It is a refinement of
the future orientation could be a short-term or long-term future such those who plan and persevere or
those who meets deadline as important.
II. Analysis of the Issue
This article agrees to different time orientations. But why would such different time orientations
happen if people know how to use time effectively. As stated above, past, present and future oriented
people tend to have different perspective in time management. Time management offers ways to increase
productivity. It isn't effective when focus is not present. Focusing on priorities make the time consumed as
valuable. I see this article as giving instances on time-keeping and in the light of different perspective
coming from various experiences.
For me, time management helps us improve efficiency on doing tasks and priorities on a
particular day. Time seems finite but even a little second wasted could be a lost to a person who plans and
persevere to end some mission. I can relate to the author's account especially in times of cramming on the
last minute of submission. I came to think that why people or simply us, students tend to be more short
term seekers rather than thinking of present is more significant.
III. Insight and Recommendation
Different time orientation might be a help to have different styles in conserving time. In different
attitudes to time would give such idea to know what would be the advantage of having managed time and

disadvantage of having time wasted. I believe that whenever we think of our future it means that we are
being ready in the present to have a better future.
I may suggest having a focus on what has been prioritized on a particular day, because I know
that having focus is that having a goal to accomplish task. Try to avoid completing task at the last minute
because it may low your grade or performance. Let's stick to our mind the importance of time in our lives.
It may be infinite but we couldn't bring it back when it passes.
IV. Policy Implication
We do have different policies governing time management. First, in the field of work as a teacher
or a student, schools policy would be students or teachers should go to school at earlier as possible as
6:30 a.m. for cleaning of the surroundings of the campus. In universities, going to school is subjected only
to the exact time of schedule.
In companies, they do have three different policies including shift differential policy which sets
up any premiums or differentials paid as a result of people working different shifts or time. Second, hour
deduction policy which determines how much time is deducted from an employee's hours for mea ls and
breaks. And lastly, premium eligibility policy which defines a list of premiums associated with base hours
that a person or group of people may be eligible to receive. These policies pertain to how individual
should value time as a commodity or precious to our lives.
This policies implied that rules and regulations about the use and lending of time to such job or
being students. In line with the university norms, being conscious to time shows commitment to
respective job. As students, time rules help us to be responsible for what should be done to that day. These
policies were issued to have a responsible and ready future.
V. School of Thought
This article would be at idealism. According to Webster, idealism is a philosophical approach that
has as its central tenet that ideas only true reality, the only thing worth knowing. In idealism, its aim of
education is to develop each individual's abilities in abiding the norms. It advocates its great importance
in education and lay more emphasis on aims and principles of education.
In the article, different time orientations were introduced and different perspectives regarding the
perfect usage of time. Being idealist, obeying the norms of time will certainly give the perfect service in
education. Early arriving at school shows pledge and commitment to job. Students, teachers and
employees have their own ways in using their time. Some are delighted to plan their future. Some taking
the responsibility at last minute and some are also readying present to have a better future. Cultural
backgrounds in using time also influences people on how to save time. This shows that in every usage of
time takes opportunities to be prioritized. Focus on what is to be done would meet the pleasure of having
good time. It is said that an idealist search for true ideas and believes that this is a rational process. It also
believes that students should attempt for self-realization and thus strives to encourage honorable moral
character development. Time orientation made us see the importance of prioritizing one's opportunity that
is said to be rare.
