IELTS TERMS & CONDITIONS AND LEGAL NOTICES

Declaration
I acknowledge that the IELTS test is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELT
S Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment, collectively referred to
as the IELTS Test Partners.
I certify that the information on this Application Form is complete, true and ac
curate.
I understand that the personal data on this Application Form is collected for th
e purposes of the IELTS test, and I consent for this data to be disclosed to, pr
ocessed and stored by the IELTS Test Partners for the purpose of such administra
tion. I further consent for this data, including, without limitation, test perfo
rmance or score data or photographs taken by the IELTS test centre and my test r
esult to be disclosed by the IELTS Test Partners to those Recognising Organisati
ons to which I apply and to governments (including visa processing authorities)
for the purpose of allowing these organisations to verify my test result or to c
arry out enquiries in relation to suspected malpractice. If the IELTS Test Partn
ers discover that a false or altered Test Report Form has been provided to any o
f these Recognising Organisations or government authorities I further consent th
at the IELTS Test Partners may inform the same and provide them with my personal
data and any relevant details relating to the work I produce as part of my test
taking, including, without limitation, test performance or score data or photog
raphs taken by the IELTS test centre.
I understand that my personal data may be processed in an anonymous form for sta
tistical and research purposes for the development of Cambridge English Language
Assessment examinations. Cambridge English Language Assessment and the centre a
dministering the test confirm that they will not disclose personal information a
bout candidates to others except as stated in this Declaration or to the extent
permitted by law.
I understand that I may view a copy of my personal data contained in the Applica
tion Form by contacting ielts@cambridgeenglish.org. I understand that a fee will
be charged for access to this information.
I understand that if I want a copy of my finger scan it can only be provided as
a Binary Large Object (BLOB) and the request must be made to ielts@idp.com or ie
lts@britishcouncil.org. I understand a fee will be charged for access to this in
formation.
I understand that if the details on this form are not completed my application m
ay not be processed. I further understand that completing and submitting this Ap
plication Form does not guarantee enrolment on my preferred test date or at my p
referred test location. I understand that my enrolment will be confirmed in writ
ing from the test centre.
I understand that any personal data collected during the identity verification p
rocess by the centre either at test registration or on test day will be processe
d and securely stored by the IELTS Test Partners for the purpose of the IELTS te
st. I acknowledge that the photograph taken of me by the centre will be provided
upon request to any Recognising Organisations or government authorities (includ
ing visa processing authorities) to which I apply for the purposes of allowing t
hese organisations to verify my test results or to carry out enquiries in relati
on to possible malpractice or test integrity issues. I understand that where fin
ger-scan data is obtained it will not be disclosed to any entity except the IELT
S Test Partners.
I understand that I will have my photograph taken by the test centre to allow th
e Test Report Form to be released. If I have not had my photograph taken by the
test centre no result will be issued.
I acknowledge that I have read the IELTS Notice to Candidates contained on page
i of this document and agree to abide by the rules and regulations contained the
rein.
I understand there may be local terms and conditions I must comply with and that
the test centre will provide details of these on request.
I understand that the IELTS Test Partners have a responsibility to all candidate

s and Recognising Organisations to ensure the highest confidence in the accuracy

and integrity of test results and that the IELTS Test Partners therefore reserv
e the right to withhold test results temporarily or permanently, or to cancel te
st results which have been issued, if they consider those results to be unreliab
le for reasons of suspected malpractice or any other irregularity in the test pr
ocess.
I understand that my result may not be issued 13 days after the test if any of t
he IELTS Test Partners deem it necessary to review any matter associated with my
test or the administration of my test, including making enquiries as to whether
any rules or regulations have been breached, as outlined in the IELTS Notice to
Candidates. I understand that in exceptional circumstances I may be required to
re-take one or more IELTS components.
I understand that if I am suspected of engaging in any form of malpractice, or d
o anything that might damage the integrity and security of IELTS, I may not rece
ive a test result, my test fee will not be refunded and I may be prohibited from
taking the IELTS test in the future. Despite and without limiting any of the te
rms of this Declaration, I understand that details of any malpractice (including
evidence of suspected malpractice) that has been established, is suspected, or
is being formally investigated may be provided to Recognising Organisations, inc
luding visa processing authorities and appropriate regulatory authorities, or ot
herwise disclosed in accordance with the law, where required for verification pu
rposes or other purposes to protect the IELTS test and its stakeholders against
any form of malpractice. I further understand that suspected malpractice will be
reported centrally to the IELTS Test Partners and to any relevant test centre b
y the centre where the suspected malpractice occurred.
I understand that if any other person attempts to take the IELTS test in my plac
e (i.e. in place of the person whose details appear on this form), both I and su
ch person will be liable to prosecution. Details relating to the situation may b
e provided to the relevant authorities, including visa processing authorities an
d appropriate regulatory authorities.
I understand that the work I produce as part of the IELTS test remains the prope
rty of the IELTS Test Partners. Under no circumstances will it be released to ca
ndidates or to institutions or organisations, except in the investigation of sus
pected malpractice whereby the work I produce as part of the IELTS test may be p
rovided to relevant authorities.
I understand that my Speaking test will be recorded. I also agree that an observ
er may attend my Speaking test as part of the monitoring process.
I understand that I will be charged the full test fee if I cancel my test or req
uest a transfer within five weeks of the test date, unless I provide appropriate
medical evidence, within five days of the test date, to support the cancellatio
n or transfer.
I acknowledge that I have read the IELTS Information for Candidates booklet.
Disclaimer
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is designed to be one
of many factors used by academic institutions, government agencies, professional
bodies and employers in determining whether a test taker can be admitted as a s
tudent or be considered for employment or for citizenship purposes. IELTS is not
designed to be the sole method of determining admission or employment for the t
est taker. IELTS is made available worldwide to all persons, regardless of age,
gender, race, nationality or religion, but it is not recommended to persons unde
r 16 years of age.

and any other party involved in creating, producing, or delivering IELTS shall n
ot be liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect, special, punit
ive, or similar damages arising out of access to, use of, acceptance by, or inte
rpretation of the results by any third party, or any errors or omissions in the
content thereof.
British Council Privacy Policy
The British Council regards the lawful and correct treatment of personal informa
tion as important to our successful operations and to the maintenance of confide

nce of those with whom we deal. As such this statement will apply equally to all
of our offices irrespective of where they are based.
We will ensure that our staff and those acting on our behalf obtain, use and dis
close personal information lawfully and correctly. To this end we fully endorse
and adhere to the principles of data protection, as set out in the UK Data Prote
ction Act 1998 (the "Act"). We shall apply the Act globally, except where part o
r all of any local law is stronger.

Payment terms for IELTS
By ticking the I Accept check box below, you confirm that you understand that you
are registering via the British Council s Online Registration System to take the I
ELTS test with the British Council (your Test Registration ) and the payment relati
ng to your Test Registration is directly between the British Council and yoursel
f. All aspects of your Test Registration relating to payment terms, refund, canc
ellation and transfer are as per the policies stipulated below.
The British Council is incorporated in England and Wales by Royal Charter and re
gistered as a charity (under number 209131 in England and Wales and number SC037
73 in Scotland). Its registered office is at 10 Spring Gardens, London, SW1A 2BN
.
After you make your Test Registration, the British Council will confirm its acce
ptance to you in the form of an email from the relevant test centre of your enro
lment on the relevant IELTS test ( IELTS Test Confirmation ). The contract between y
ou and the British Council will only be formed when you are sent the Enrolment C
onfirmation. The contract between you and the British Council is formed in the E
nglish language.
Fees
Fees may change from time to time, but this will not affect any Test Registratio
n which has been confirmed by an Enrolment Confirmation.
Payment for your Test Registration will need to be made in advance through the B
ritish Council s Online Registration System.
Cancellation
You may cancel your Test Registration at any time prior to taking the IELTS test
by notifying the British Council by email to, if you change your mind or for an
y other reason you decide you do not want to take the IELTS test. Your right to
receive a refund will depend on how far in advance you cancel your Test Registra
tion.
If you cancel your registration more than five weeks before the test date will r
eceive a refund. However, the centre will deduct an administrative fee of 25% of
the test fee.
Refunds take up to 4 weeks to be processed.
If you cancel your registration within the five-week period prior to the test da
te, you will receive no refund.
Requests for refund must be sent by email to ieltsexam@britishcouncil.org.co.
Transfer
You may request to transfer test dates if you notify us by email (ieltsexam@brit
ishcouncil.org.co) more than five weeks before your confirmed test date. You wil
l need to pay a fee of 25% of the test fee before the transfer can be made.

If you wish to transfer test dates within the five-week period before your confi
rmed test date, this will be treated as a cancellation and you will receive no r
efund.
Refunds in exceptional circumstances
You may apply for a full refund where you are unable to attend your IELTS test d
ue to any of the following circumstances:
Illness;
Loss or bereavement;
Hardship or trauma; or
Military service.
You may also apply for a full refund - Less an administrative fee of 25% of the
test fee, where you are taken ill during your IELTS test and unable to complete
the test(s) for which you are registered.
In any of these circumstances, you will need to submit an application for a refu
nd to the relevant test centre no more than three working days after the Test Da
te and provide appropriate documentation or evidence to support your application
for a refund
for example, a medical certificate from a qualified medical practi
tioner, a death notice or certificate or a police report, as applicable.
You will be informed whether or not your application has been approved within on
e week after the date you submit it.
If you have been unable to attend your Test Date due to illness (and have suppor
ting evidence) you may request a transfer to a new test date instead of a refund
. In this case no transfer fee will be charged.
You will not be entitled to a refund if you do not submit an application for a r
efund as described above.
Contacting the British Council
To cancel a Test Registration, change your Test Date or request a refund, you mu
st contact the British Council in writing by sending an email to ieltsexam@briti
shcouncil.org.co. You may wish to keep a copy of your cancellation notice for yo
ur own records.
For exams paid in Davivienda or Zona de pagos please send the payment slip to ie
ltspayments@britishcouncil.org.co no later than 3 days after completing the appl
ication.
Incomplete registrations for either payment or incorrect document upload will be
deleted 3 days after the initial registration date.
If you complete your registration on the closing registration date you must pay
and upload a scan copy of both sides of your identification as per the required
specifications on the same day, otherwise your application will not be considere
d.
If you need your results to be sent to a Postal Address please ensure you let us
know otherwise, we are unable to process your request. Candidates are responsib
le to cover any Courier fees.
