Aging has a way of focusing our atten-
tion. So does illness. As we grow older,
we become more conscious of our mor-
tality, the fact that we are not going to
live forever—that death is inevitable.
Our focus is even more intense if we
have faced a life-threatening illness or
injury. Much the same effect is produced
in us at any age—at least temporarily—
when someone close to us passes away. I
have personally experienced this in re-
cent months, first through open heart
surgery (the Lord spared me an immi-
nent heart attack), and then through
turning sixty years of age (and becoming
a grandfather). Like many seniors, I
have asked myself, where did all the
years go? I can’t possibly be that old—I
don’t feel that old!
What’s even more sobering is the
reality that we cannot reclaim our past.
When we reflect on wasted time and op-
portunities, most of us have at least
some regrets; we could have worked
harder, been more generous, served
more faithfully, prayed harder, or done a
better job of parenting. This, in turn,
tends to make our sunset years at least a
little bittersweet. We can’t put spilled
water back into the glass.
In spite of all of this, however, we
don’t need to despair. As Christians, our
perspective is distinctively different from
that of unbelievers. It was 1970 when
the popular brother-sister duo, Richard
and Karen Carpenter, won a Grammy
Award for their recording of the song,
“We’ve Only Just Begun” (some of us
remember it!). The first line reads,
“We’ve only just begun to live.” It was a

wedding song, but also a song of hope
from the hearts of two people who were
anticipating their future together. The
song became something of a signature
for our generation, but its perspective
was anything but Christian.
We've only just begun to live,
White lace and promises
A kiss for luck and we're on our way.
We've only begun.
That sense of anticipation is repre-
sented as the dawning of a new day, pre-
senting the happy, newly married young
couple with the promise of a multitude of
opportunities. (We baby-boomers were
just beginning to graduate from college
and begin our careers and families—and
that at the height of the Vietnam War.
We were searching desperately for a note
of optimism and hope for our futures.)
Before the rising sun we fly,
So many roads to choose
We start out walking and learn to run.
And yes, we’ve just begun.
So many roads from which to choose
and we’re just getting started. Life is
beautiful. We’re learning, and the future
promises to reward us handsomely. Suc-
cess and meaning in life will unfold as we
experience it together each day.
Sharing horizons that are new to us,
Watching the signs along the way,
Talking it over just the two of us,
Working together day to day
Together.
The final verse is interesting. It ap-
pears to look forward to retirement and a
life of continued prosperity, pleasure,
and opportunity for personal growth; a
life with fresh new challenges and possi-
bilities. It was the promise of a bright
tomorrow following an exciting today.
And when the evening comes we smile,
So much of life ahead
We'll find a place where there's room to
grow,
And yes, we’ve just begun.
And thus the hope of a disillusioned
generation was a life of happiness from
beginning to end. We were just getting
started. For many of us of that genera-
tion, however, the shadows are now be-
ginning to fall. The sun is setting; eve-
ning has come. And in fact, there’s not
so much of life ahead. And yet for us as
Christians, the good news about life is
that when it’s over, it’s actually not over.
We have a glorious future ahead. Here’s
what Scripture tells us.
1. Death ushers us into the pres-
ence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Death
doesn’t end our existence. The Bible
does not teach annihilation or soul sleep.
Rather, the Apostle Paul declares to the
Corinthians that he would “prefer rather
to be absent from the body and to be at
home with the Lord” (2 Cor 5:8). We
close our eyes in this world, and awake
immediately in the next.
2. We will experience a glorious
resurrection. This, of course, is when
the Lord Jesus returns for His saints.
Those who have died will come with Him

to be reunited with their bodies (1 Thess
4:14). “For the Lord Himself will de-
scend from heaven with a shout, with the
voice of the archangel and with the
trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ
will rise first” (1 Thess 4:16); “. . . we will
not all sleep, but we will all be changed,
in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye,
at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will
sound, and the dead will be raised im-
perishable, and we will be changed. For
this perishable must put on the imper-
ishable, and this mortal must put on
immortality” (1 Cor 15:51-53; also see 2
Cor 4:14). At that point, our literal
physical bodies will rise from the grave
and be glorified as Christ transforms
“the body of our humble state into con-
formity with the body of His glory” (Phil
3:21). Indeed, “we know that when He
appears, we will be like Him, because we
will see Him just as He is” (1 Jn 3:2).
3. We will return and reign with
Christ. Now comes the exciting part, and
the New Testament only hints at what is
in store for us—“Things which eye has
not seen and ear has not heard, and
which have not entered the heart of man,
all that God has prepared for those who
love Him” (1 Cor 2:4). When our Lord
returns to govern the earth for 1,000
years, we will come with Him to serve in
His administration. What shall we be
doing? We are told only in passing that
I grew up in a home with few television
viewing restrictions. I apparently spent
my infancy watching horror movies with
my dad, and then moved on to such 80’s
classics as He-Man and the Masters of
the Universe and The Smurfs. As I grew,
I got into the kids shows on HBO and
then when we moved to a new house,
Nickelodeon. I watched what most eve-
ryone else at school watched, and my
friends and I would discuss the shows
and even act out our own in our play-
times. Once my friends started talking
about movies like Dirty Dancing, my
parents started to make some rules re-
garding movie viewing. If a movie had
sexual content, it was forbidden. But
movies with bad language and violence
were pretty much fair game. Weeknights
were filled with sitcoms.
we “the saints will judge the world,” and
that we will also judge angels (1 Cor 6:2-
3)! We cannot now imagine what this
means, but one thing is clear: we will
not be sitting on fluffy clouds, with halos
over our heads, strumming heavenly
harps! We will be with our Lord here on
earth (or somewhere in the universe),
and we will be busy serving Him.
4. We will spend eternity in the
unimaginable splendor of the new
heaven and new earth. Once the mil-
lennial kingdom of our Lord has con-
cluded, we, the Bride of Christ, will re-
turn to heaven, only to be introduced to
our eternal home, the new Jerusalem—
the immense and magnificent city whose
twelve foundations are each made of
precious stones and whose streets are
paved with gold so pure that it is trans-
parent. There will be no night there;
sorrow, sickness, and death are forever
banished; and the city and fully reno-
vated earth will be illumined by the glory
of God and of the Lord Jesus (Rev 21:1-
27). A city so huge (a cube 1500 miles
long on each side) with so many inhabi-
tants (“myriads upon myriads”) will pro-
vide a place where we will live forever
without boredom or a sense of useless-
ness. We will be fellowshipping with the
saints of all the ages throughout the eons
to come, but above all, we “His
bondservants will serve Him” (Rev 22:3).
Why I Gave Up Television
I became a latch-key kid in middle
school. My brother and I would spend
all summer in front of the television and
all of our after-school time as well. We
watched mostly MTV, VH1, Comedy
Central and various talk shows. There
were rules against watching certain pro-
grams (Beavis & Butthead, Kids in the
Hall) but who was home to stop me? I
watched anyway.
My high school and college televi-
sion viewing consisted mostly of talk
shows, sitcoms, and The Discovery
Channel, which consists largely of secu-
lar-humanist attempts to disprove the
veracity of the Bible.
After years of filling my mind with
worldly filth I thought nothing of con-
tinuing to watch after Tom and I got
married. We had a hand-me-down tele-
Overwhelmed by these prospects,
our natural reaction is to shrink back in a
sense of unworthiness. I am tempted to
fear that others have been much better
Christians than me, and thus I may miss
the best heaven has to offer. Although
it’s true that we will have rewards for
obedience and faithful service, we will
also have an inheritance. Wealth and
privilege such as we could never imagine
in that life will be ours, and none of it
because we deserve it, but all of it be-
cause of His grace. We are the adopted
children of our Heavenly Father, and it
has pleased Him to reserve an inheri-
tance for us in heaven which cannot be
stolen or corrupted (1 Pet 1:3-5). Do you
know the Lord Jesus as your personal
Savior?
“So much of life ahead.” The irony is
that Karen Carpenter died at the age of
32, the victim of anorexia. For her, there
was so little life ahead. We Christians,
however, can truly say that “when the
evening comes we smile, so much of life
ahead.” Therefore, we need not despair
as we grow older. Remember, we have
eternal life. So yes, it’s true: “we’ve only
just begun”!

vision with a cheap antenna we bought at
Radio Shack and we were able to get a
few channels. When we moved to Long
Island, I watched soap operas all through
my pregnancy, along with shows like
Grey’s Anatomy (a show almost entirely
about fornication and adultery) that
were recommended to me by (Christian!)
friends.
And then the television died. Well
really, the antenna was irreparably dam-
aged after the cat took an unfortunate
dive into it, but I finished it off by knock-
ing it over. No more television.
By this time, I had an infant and I
really didn’t watch too much program-
ming anyway. Plus, I was irritated with
shows like The View that are on during
the morning hours and contain graphic
sexual banter, despite the fact that many

viewers’ toddlers are wandering around
the living room listening in at that time
of day.
Tom never watched television unless
I harangued him into it, so he was all for
scrapping the set. At that point, I was
spending whatever free time I had read-
ing and listening to sermons on Grace to
You, so I was in agreement. I didn’t
want our son picking up colorful new
words anyway.
But there was still one show I knew I
could watch online after it aired…Ugly
Betty. I think I watched an entire season
online before I saw the one episode that
changed how I view television forever. It
was an episode in Season 2 where Betty,
the main character, finally gets together
with the guy she has been in love with for
all of Season 1…even though he is expect-
ing a child with an ex-girlfriend on the
other side of the country. The episode
ends in an emotional crescendo with
them deciding to move in together, if I
remember correctly. Not only that, but
one of the regular characters, a homo-
sexual, goes on a date with a guy who is
less attractive, but simply wants a
chance…and the story was spun so that I
felt so bad for the guy that when they
ended up holding hands while they
watched a movie it came across as
oddly…sweet.
It occurred to me after that episode
that those silly characters had become so
endearing to me that I was actually feel-
Missionaries of the Month – Tim and Marcia Monahan
Tim and Marcia Monahan of World Ven-
ture have been missionaries in Italy for
almost 25 years and instrumental in
planting one of the most successful
churches in Italy. This church, Il Faro,
International Baptist Church has dou-
bled in size in just the last two years. As
a result, in January, Tim Monahan
turned the leadership over to two men
whom he has worked very closely with –
Luigi and Angelo.
Tim has heard that Luigi is one of
the best preachers in all of Italy and Tim
is also confident in his leadership abili-
ties. Angelo will be collaborating with
Luigi in leading the church as a part-
time pastor. Tim will remain supportive
as needed. Pray for this transition to

against God! I felt awful. I remembered
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, what-
ever is true, whatever is honorable,
whatever is right, whatever is pure,
whatever is lovely, whatever is of good
repute, if there is any excellence and if
anything worthy of praise, dwell on these
things,” and I repented of having dwelt
on sin instead. And from that day for-
ward, I stopped watching shows online.
Ever since then, whenever I do see
anything on television I am appalled.
Even when watching the Food Network
and HGTV at my parents’ house we end
up seeing commercials for tasteless pro-
gramming on other channels, ads for
demonic horror movies, and women in
various stages of undress. Even the host-
ess of the reality show Clean House looks
like she should be standing on a street
corner somewhere!
I have also noticed that my movie
preferences have changed. I am no
longer longing to see the newest “roman-
tic comedy,” since there is always forni-
cation as part of the storyline. Even
regular comedies strike me as tasteless
because they always involve foul lan-
guage, course joking, and the repeated
taking of God’s name in vain. These
days, I tend towards children’s movies
and whatever Christian films we see at
church on movie nights.
I have had people tell me that they
don’t know how they could live without
Italian leadership and that the church
will continue to grow.
Now the Monahan’s focus is on Cas-
tel Volturno, a tiny town in southern
Italy; a notoriously lawless town, over-
whelmed with poor immigrants and con-
trolled by Camorra, the local mafia. Af-
ter much research into cocaine traffick-
ing there and learning that there is an
increase in the European consumption of
their television. I can remember a time
when I said the same thing! But I have
found that not only am I keeping my
mind from being filled with worldliness
that makes me desensitized to the things
that offend God, but I have much more
time to spend filling my mind with the
things that glorify Him. Another bonus
is that my son is not being exposed to
anything I don’t approve of beforehand.
We recently accepted another used
television. Luke uses it to watch his fa-
vorite DVD’s and occasionally Tom and I
watch a clean movie together. Eventu-
ally it will be used in homeschooling and
in providing another avenue for teaching
our children about God’s Word. Will we
ever buy another antenna or add cable to
the budget? Not a chance. Do we feel
like we’re missing out? Nope.
I would encourage you to think
about your own television viewing habits
and take time to pray about them. Are
you still finding entertainment in view-
ing the sinful things you left behind at
salvation? Are you allowing worldly in-
fluences into your home that do not re-
flect your Christian values? The Apostle
Peter reminds us, “As obedient children,
do not be conformed to the former lusts
which were yours in your ignorance, but
like the Holy One who called you, be holy
yourselves also in all your behavior; be-
cause it is written, ‘YOU SHALL BE HOLY,
FOR I AM HOLY’” (1 Peter 1:14-16).

world, Tim has become knowledgeable
that Castel Volturno provides easy access
to the European continent. The Monah-
ans have picked a hot spot to minister to
and can feel the watchful eye of the Ca-
morra. So pray for the Monahans as
they reach out to the people of Castel
Volturno, wrapped in silence in their fear
of the Camorra.
Their son, Nate, is now 30 years old
and living in Philadelphia; their daugh-
ter, Erin, is 27, married with a growing
family. Pray for them as they support
their Mom and Dad in Castel Volturno, a
town that “oozes with a special eeriness”
– in Tim’s own words.

 Getting Acquainted with Victor I. Bellard
“I am the vine, ye are the branches”
(John 15:5) is a familiar scripture em-
bedded deep within our hearts describ-
ing Jesus’ union with the believer. One
believer of the WRBC, Victor I. Bellard,
not only has embedded this scripture
deep within his heart but has tooled it
into the wood of a beautifully hand-
crafted maple table now in the vestibule
of the WRBC. The hours that Vic spent
on this masterpiece offers a bit of under-
standing of his love for Jesus Christ.
May we take a look at how God molded
this skilled craftsman and instilled in
him a passion to serve God in the way he
does.
Vic was born in Camden, NJ on
April 25, 1943 where his father, Victor J.
Bellard, worked in the Camden Shipyard.
It was not long after that that he moved
with his father, his mother, Susan M.
Bellard, and a younger sister, Marjorie
Jane (now Marjorie Myers), to Delhi,
NY, where his father worked in a barrel
factory, as a farm worker and eventually
purchased a dairy farm at Sopher Hill,
Delhi, NY.
Growing up on a farm on a moun-
tain had a lasting impact on Vic. Very
early on, Vic learned and developed the
ways of a hardworking farm boy main-
taining the characteristics of a man lov-
ing the agriculture life in a very special
way that many do not experience in this
world of fast living and gadgets.
Vic was shy and not too talkative in
his high school years, but never letting
this stand in his way of achieving a well-
rounded and balanced education. The
contrast in his activities is noteworthy.
He played sports, sang in the vocal
groups, belonged to the Library Club as
well as the Slide Rule Club, participated
in both the junior and senior high school
plays, and was a member of the Future
Farmers of America.
As a teenager, Vic accepted Jesus
Christ while he was attending the First
Baptist Church of Delhi, NY. It was
there that he met his wife, Reeva Eliza-
beth Curley, while taking an active part
in the Baptist Youth Fellowship. A few
years out of high school he married Re-
eva on June 15, 1963.
Vic continued his education at the
State University Agricultural & Technical
College in Delhi, NY where he earned his
A.A.S. degree in Agriculture. He fol-
lowed that up with a B.S. degree in Ani-
mal Science; a M.A.T. and a Ph.D. in
Education/Animal Science all obtained
through Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Thus, Vic’s education was completed in
1981.
As Vic’s education progressed, the
family grew by two: a daughter, Sarah,
and a son, David. Their daughter, Sarah
(now Sarah Chapman) is an active mem-
ber of WRBC along with her husband,
Carl, and two sons, Stephen and Jacob.
Vic and Reeva’s son, Victor David, now
29, is married to Melissa.
Just as Vic’s high school years pro-
vided a well-rounded curriculum, his
employment record gives us an impres-
sion of his many skills. He has been a
dairy farmer, a herdsman, a bus driver, a
college farm worker, a high school agri-
culture teacher, a college professor and a
college administrator.
Then to subdivide the many skills of
a college professor, Vic in teaching at
SUNY Farmingdale State College holds
the record for the greatest number of
different courses taught – 25 courses in
all. He has taught agriculture/animal
science, engineering technology in math,
problem solving, pre-technical dept.
(chair), aviation dept. (chair) and Assis-
tant Dean of the School of Engineering
Technologies. Currently, he is serving as
the Director of International Education.
Vic is looking to retire this year after 41
years at Farmingdale.
We have already established that Vic
was saved as a teenager, but he claims he
was still an evolutionist until he was ex-
posed to some creationist literature some
40 years ago when he attended the Wan-
tagh Baptist Church. Now because of his
conversion to a Creationist, Vic is a vot-
ing member of the Institute for Creation
Research, an organization devoted to the
literal interpretation of God’s Word, es-
pecially regarding the Creation Record as
recorded in Genesis. His passion now is
to speak all over LI on both Creation and
theological subjects.
After 2 years at Wantagh Baptist
Church and moving to Stony Brook, the
family began attending the Calvary Bap-
tist Church in Port Jefferson Station.
There, Vic served as a Trustee, a Deacon,
an Elder, a S.S. teacher, choir member
and song leader.
When the WRBC was started by a
church plant group of people, some were
from the Calvary Baptist Church of Port
Jefferson Station—one of them being
their son-in-law, Carl Chapman. Carl
became their link to the WRBC as they
became acquainted with Pastor Glass
and his truthful preaching. But it was
not until 2 years ago that Vic and Reeva
made the decision to leave Calvary Bap-
tist Church because the preaching, teach-
ing, and worshipping had become too
modernistic for them. After 34 years,
they left Calvary Baptist Church of Port
Jefferson Station and began attending
the WRBC where the truth is faithfully
preached.
Becoming a part of the WRBC for
Vic meant stepping up in service within
the Church. His teaching abilities have
been utilized not only as he teaches adult
Sunday School but also as he on occasion
has led the devotions at Senior Saints.
He is a member of the church choir and
quite frequently he is joined by his wife,
Reeva, and daughter and son-in-law,
Sarah and Carl, for a musical presenta-
tion. The Bellard/Chapman quartet is
appreciated by all for its harmony not

only in its tones but as a family coming
together to worship God through music.
Vic Bellard is a vanishing species as
he holds to an adventurous and manly
lifestyle. He loves his hunting and fish-
ing, as his trophies mounted in his home
would indicate to a guest. When not en-
gaged in his hunting and fishing trips he
is home working outside tending to his
beautiful water garden, landscaping his
home with flower beds, or working in his
carpentry shop. Most of all, he loves to

The Senior Saints luncheon on February
13 had the theme “My Heart Belongs to
Jesus” and provided a time of fellow-
shipping one last time for Ruth Kerr as
she prepared to move to South Carolina
with her son. Good-
byes were exchanged
over a dinner of Swed-
ish and Sweet & Sour
Meatballs followed by
a moving devotional
led by Vic Bellard.
For Valentine’s Day, the church of-
fered a night for sweethearts and their
families. An Italian dinner was shared in
the Fellowship Hall (thank you to Liz
Hyland) and was followed by a colossal
array of homemade desserts. Complet-
ing the dinner/movie date night was a
movie titled, “No Greater Love.” Dennis
Rainey, President of Family Life, called
this film “a compelling story that power-
fully reminds us that love is always the
right choice.”
On Sunday, February 21, we were
privileged to have Rev. Jason McGuire,
the new Executive Director of New York-
ers for Constitutional Freedoms
(www.nycf.info), speak during both the
Sunday School hour and the Worship
Service. Rev. McGuire spoke on his
Legislative Day 2010 “Counter Punch” Conference
Americans, more specifically, Chris-
tian Americans are becoming more and
more frustrated with the course that
America is on. If you are one of these
and are concerned, you might like to
know that Rev. Duane Motley, given the
nickname “The Lord’s Lobbyist,” also
watch his children and grandchildren
grow and play with their basset hound,
Gibbs.
Vic maintains a strong commitment
to providing for his family and does so
generously as he and his wife opened
their home first to Vic’s mother from
1993 to 1997 and then in 2001 to their
daughter and family sharing the same
roof over their heads. Each of these
events required expansions to the home
which provided an opportunity for de-

16, 2010 sponsored by New Yorker’s
Family Research Foundation
(www.nyfrf.org). This year’s theme,
“Counter Punch,” was a reflection of the
quest of conservative Christians to be on
the offensive in 2010 in our legislative
offices.
Moving into March and to the week
of St. Patrick’s Day, the final seasonal
dinner and movie took place on Sunday,
March 14. Borrowing the holiday’s tradi-
tions of corned beef and cabbage and
green decorations and desserts, another
great “Baptist” dinner was shared fol-
lowed by the movie, “The Climb,” a film
certain to get the attention of the macho!
It was about two men who clashed not
only in pride, styles, and character but in
their faith in Jesus Christ. They were
brought together by unusual circum-
stances to make a treacherous climb up
Mount Chicanagua in Chile.
“Fighting the Good Fight”
became concerned 26 years ago and as a
result founded New Yorkers for Consti-
tutional Freedoms (NYCF) and New
Yorker’s Family Research Foundation
(NYFRF).

together in worshipping the Lord in a

band, father and teacher that he is.

On March 15, 15 eager participants
of NYCF/NYFRF “Legislative Day”
boarded the WRBC’s bus and headed for
Albany with Dennis Tyska at the wheel.
After checking in at the Marriott, the
group headed to “The Cheesecake Fac-
tory” for a memorable dinner—especially
for John Moses Piraino who tackled one
of the restaurant’s over-the-edge des-
serts! A night’s sleep and a free hotel
breakfast began a day of an eye-opening
experience and education on the Chris-
tian worldview versus that of our culture
in 2010. It clearly initiated a new level of
thinking about our state government for
some and the role a Christian must play.

The following Saturday, a “Tea
Party” rally gathered at our nation’s capi-
tol to voice opposition to the health care
reform. The WRBC was represented by
one of its families carrying a message for
all of us that we as Christians want a
more godly America as others continued
in prayer for our nation.

The NYFRF is a ministry that edu-
cates the Christian Church. It was from
the NYFRF that the WRBC enlisted Rev.
Jason McGuire, NYFRF’s President and
NYCF Executive Director, to speak at
WRBC as he extended the invitation to
attend the Legislative Day 2010 Counter
Punch conference in Albany on March

Eleven from the WRBC and four
from the Riverhead Calvary Baptist
Church accepted the invitation to be
educated and encouraged to influence
legislation and legislators for the Lord
Jesus Christ. The conference took place
at the Empire State Plaza Convention
Center in Albany, where over 1,000
Christians joined together for a conti-
nental breakfast and to listen to a variety
of speakers including some of our elected
officials.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Jim
Garlow, Senior Pastor of Skyline
Wesleyan Church in San Diego, CA and
founder of the CA Pastors Rapid Re-
sponse Team, a group of several thou-

serving the traditional, natural definition
of marriage which recently experienced a
victorious campaign with Proposition 8
in CA. You might know him better as the
co-author of the best-selling book,
Cracking Da Vinci’s Code. Because of
this authorship, Dr. Garlow has ap-
peared on NBC, CNN, Fox, MSNBC and
CNBC. It would be worth checking out
Dr. Garlow’s website listing the books he
has authored along with how to press
ahead in today’s environment as a Chris-
tian (www.jimgarlow.com).
Most recently, former Speaker of the
House Newt Gingrich has asked him to
come aboard ReAL (Renewing American
Leadership), an organization in Wash-
ington, D.C., designed to uphold the
Judeo-Christian heritage by preserving
the 3 pillars of American civilization –
freedom, faith and free market.
To say that Dr. Garlow was a power-
ful speaker would be vastly understated.
Not only was he the key speaker in the
morning session, but he spoke to all at-
tending pastors privately as well as re-
turning to speak in the closing afternoon
session. It is easy to say that Dr. Gar-
low’s communication skills are way over
the top and brought the audience to their
feet more than once expressing the role
of a Christian in 2010. He reminded us
that “God will bless or curse this nation
according to the course Christians take!”
He also added, “If God takes us to it, God
will take us through it.” He challenged
each of us to get involved.
The conference offered a lunch
break but continuing with an agenda
including two individual luncheons of-
fered to the first 500 that would obtain
tickets to the luncheon. Pastor Glass
most efficiently acquired the needed
tickets to the “President’s Luncheon”
with Rev. Jason McGuire presiding. Also
attending the luncheon were elected offi-
cials as well as those seeking election.
After the conference was over, the
group from Wading River and Riverhead
had a chance to tour the State Capitol
with Rev. Duane Motley as their tour
guide. Because Rev. Motley had a recent
injury that prevented him from walking
distances, he resorted to a wheelchair,
opting to choose someone from the
group to manage his wheelchair—his
choice being Dennis Tyska of WRBC. It
was quite apparent that Rev. Motley is
well-known and respected among the
politicians of Albany as they greeted him
on the tour allowing the tour group a
close encounter with many of the politi-
cians as well as Dr. Garlow himself.
The Capitol itself is rich in architec-
tural value and has been recognized as
one of the most outstanding capitol
buildings in the US. It took 32 years to
build from 1867 to 1899 costing $25 mil-
lion (compared to a half billion today).
There is so much to be said about the
Capitol such as the “Million Dollar” stair-
case; the Senate walls covered with a
shimmering 23 carat gold leaf design;
the 2 six-foot fireplaces in the Senate
chamber used for quiet meetings; the
electronic voting boards mounted on the
walls of the Assembly Chamber; the Flag
Room where over 1,000 American war
flags are kept and how the Capitol is
presently being restored and preserved.

Now, our job is to pray and support
these organizations. There are many
issues that the NYCF Legislative Watch
is keeping an eye on such as preserving
the sanctity of human life, marriage,
church taxation, parental rights, educa-
tion and many miscellaneous bills.
There is also a time of looking ahead and
planning to attend next year’s Legislative
Day on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.
