TEXT:
John
5:18-21
18
Therefor
e the
Jews
sought
the more
to kill
him,
because
he not
only had
broken
the
sabbath,
but said
also that
God was
his
Father,
making
himself
equal
with God.
19 Then
answere
d Jesus
and said
unto
them,
Verily,
verily, I
say unto
you, The
Son can
do
nothing
of
himself,
but what
he seeth
the
Father
do: for
what
things
soever
he doeth,
these
also
doeth the
Son
likewise.
20 For
the
Father
loveth
the Son,
and
sheweth
him all
things
that
himself
doeth:
and he
will shew
him
greater
works
than
these,
that ye
may
marvel.
21 For as
the
Father
raiseth
up the
dead,
and
quickene
th them;
even so
the Son
quickene
th whom
he will.
----------
Today, I
am
continuin
g the
daily Just
Jesus
Evangelis
tic
Campaig
n sermon
series,
which is
aimed at
sharing
the
Gospel of
the Lord
Jesus
Christ
with
unbelieve
rs and
remindin
g
Christian
s, in this
important
election
year, to
keep the
main
thing the
main
thing -and that
is
reaching
unbelieve
rs with
the
Gospel of
the Lord
Jesus
Christ
and
praying
for their
salvation,
for the
problem
in
America
is not
only
disobedie
nt
president
s
politician
s, and
people,
but
disobedie
nt
pastors,
preacher
s, and
parishion
ers who
have
refused
to obey
the
Lords
Great
Commiss
ion which
is to, Go
ye
therefore,
and teach
all
nations
and who
have
refused
to obey
God's
repeated
comman
ds to
"pray
without
ceasing"
for
unbelieve
rs,
believers,
and
political
leaders.
Yes, you
should
pray for
the right
candidate
to win;
yes, you
should
vote for
the
candidate
that the
Lord
gives you
peace
about
voting
for. But,
don't get
caught
up in it
like the
world
does.
Nothing
much is
going to
change
until
people
get saved
and get
their
hearts
right with
the Lord.
This
campaign
is
inspired
by the
following
three
verses: 1
Corinthia
ns 2:2
which
says,
"For I
determin
ed not to
know
anything
among
you, save
Jesus
Christ,
and him
crucified.
" Acts
5:42
which
says,
"And
daily in
the
temple,
and in
every
house,
they
ceased
not to
teach and
preach
Jesus
Christ."
And 2
Timothy
2:4 which
says, "No
man that
warreth
entanglet
h himself
with the
affairs of
this life;
that he
may
please
him who
hath
chosen
him to be
a
soldier."
This
series is
not for
Christian
s
necessari
ly.
However,
I do hope
you are
one of
those
saints
who still
loves to
hear the
"Old, old
story of
Jesus
and His
love" -As
another
hymn
says,
"For
those
who
know it
best
Seem
hungerin
g and
thirsting
to hear it
like the
rest."
This
series is
primarily
for
unbelieve
rs, so
they can
hear and
understa
nd the
Gospel
and be
saved
from sin
and the
punishm
ent of sin
which is
hell. This
is
message
number
52.
A.W.
Tozer
said, "If
man had
his way,
the plan
of
redempti
on would
be an
endless
and
bloody
conflict.
In reality,
salvation
was
bought
not by
Jesus'
fist, but
by His
nailpierced
hands;
not by
muscle
but by
love; not
by
vengeanc
e but by
forgivene
ss; not
by force
but by
sacrifice.
Jesus
Christ
our Lord
surrender
ed in
order that
He might
win; He
destroye
d His
enemies
by dying
for them
and
conquere
d death
by
allowing
death to
conquer
Him."
The
conflict
between
Jesus
and the
Jewish
religious
authoritie
s
continue
s almost
from the
beginnin
g of
Jesus'
ministry
until its
very end.
There
were
many
things
these
leaders
did not
like about
Jesus,
but the
main
thing
they
hated
was that
Jesus
claimed
to be God
-- or, as
they
would
have
said,
claimed
equality
with God.
Jesus,
for His
part,
never
tried to
convince
them that
He was
God. He
never
tried to
prove
this to
them or
make
them
believe it.
He let His
works
speak for
themselv
es. Jesus
claimed
not only
to be
doing the
work of
God, but
to be
working
with God.
He called
God "My
Father",
stating
plainly
that He
was IN
UNION
with God.
This
made the
religious
leaders
hate
Jesus all
the more:
He
implicate
d God in
what they
saw as a
crime -working
on the
Sabbath
day.
We are
reminded
that God
revealed
Himself
to man
through
His Son,
Jesus
Christ.
Everythin
g that
Jesus
did, God
was
doing.
Jesus
said,
"The Son
can do
nothing
of
himself,
but what
he seeth
the
Father
do: for
what
things
soever he
doeth,
these
also
doeth the
Son
likewise."
Jesus
was and
is the
manifesta
tion of
God in
the
world. He
was truly
God in
the flesh.
This was
somethin
g the
Jewish
religious
leaders
refused
to accept.
Jesus
goes on
to say,
"The
Father
loveth
the Son,
and
sheweth
him all
things
that
himself
doeth:
and he
will shew
him
greater
works
than
these,
that ye
may
marvel."
We are
often
reminded
of God's
love for
the world
which
moved
Him to
sacrifice
His Son.
But the
Bible
also tells
us of
God's
love for
Jesus.
One of
the
things
that is
recorded
in all four
Gospels
is the
voice of
God
declaring
, 'This is
my
beloved
Son.'
Because
God
loved His
Son, He
did not
abandon
Him once
He was
sent to
Earth. He
continuo
usly
showed
Him all
the
things
that He,
the
Father,
was
doing so
that the
Son
could
take part
in those
works.
Their
relations
hip was
one of
divine
partnersh
ip. As
time went
on, the
Father
together
with
Jesus
accompli
shed
even
greater
works.
Jesus
told the
religious
leaders
that they
would
marvel,
or
wonder,
at such
events.
What
kind of
events
was
Jesus
talking
about?
He
explains
in the
next
verse:
"For as
the
Father
raiseth
up the
dead, and
quickenet
h them;
even so
the Son
quickenet
h whom
he will."
Again
staking
His claim
to deity,
Jesus
claims
for
Himself
one of
the three
things
that the
Jews
believed
only God
could do.
Warren
Wiersbe
points
out that
the Jews
believed
only God
could: (1)
open the
Heavens
and allow
rain to
fall, (2)
open the
womb
and allow
the birth
of a new
person,
(3) open
the grave
and allow
the dead
to live
again.
Jesus
raised at
least
three
people
from the
dead
during
His
ministry
on earth,
however,
scholars
believe
that
Jesus is
not only
talking
about
physical
resurrecti
on, but
spiritual
resurrecti
on. Jesus
not only
gives
new
physical
life, but
He gives
new
spiritual
life. All
life,
physical
and
spiritual,
is subject
to God,
and thus
subject
to Jesus
Christ.
Adam
Clarke
said,
"Here our
Lord
points
out His
sovereig
n power
and
independ
ence; He
gives life
accordin
g to His
own will
-- not
being
obliged
to
supplicat
e for the
power by
which it
was
done, as
the
prophets
did; His
own will
being
absolute
and
sufficient
in every
case."
No one
else can
give you
a new
spiritual
life but
Jesus.
No one
but Jesus
can
guarante
e that
you will
live again
after you
die. If you
do not
know
Jesus
Christ as
your
Savior,
He
desires
more
than
anything
else to
give you
the new
life that
only He
can give.
He
desires
that you
take part
in the
love that
He and
the
Father
share. He
desires
that you
one day
take part
in God's
work that
began
with
Jesus
Christ.
Allow me
to share
with you
how you
can open
your
heart to
Jesus
Christ
and let
God
begin to
work
within
you
today.
First,
please
understa
nd that
you are a
sinner
and that
you have
broken
God's
laws. The
Bible
says in
Romans
3:23:
"For all
have
sinned
and come
short of
the glory
of God."
Please
understa
nd that
because
of your
sins, you
deserve
punishm
ent in
hell.
Romans
6:23 says
"the
wages of
sin is
death"
This is
both
physical
death
and
spiritual
death in
hell.
But here
is the
good
news.
John 3:16
reads,
"For God
so loved
the
world,
that He
gave His
only
begotten
Son, that
whosoev
er
believeth
in Him
should
not
perish,
but have
everlastin
g life."
The
phrase
"For God
so loved
the
world"
means
that if
you are
in this
world,
God
loves you
no matter
what you
have
done.
The next
phrase,
"that He
gave His
only
begotten
Son"
refers to
Jesus
Christ.
He is
God's
son who
suffered,
bled, and
died on
the cross
for your
sins and
for mine,
and He
was
buried
and rose
again.
Our next
phrase is
"that
whosoev
er
believeth
in Him".
The word
"whosoe
ver"
means
anybody
at
anytime.
The
phrase
"believet
h in Him"
means to
trust in
Him, to
depend
upon
Him, to
rely on
Him, or to
have faith
in Him for
your
salvation.
Our next
phrase,
"should
not
perish",
refers to
eternal
punishm
ent in a
place
called
hell.
And,
lastly, the
phrase
"but have
everlastin
g life"
means to
live
eternally
in
Heaven
with God.
The Bible
also says
in
Romans
10:9 and
13: "That
if thou
shalt
confess
with thy
mouth
the Lord
Jesus,
and shalt
believe in
thine
heart that
God hath
raised
him from
the dead,
thou
shalt be
saved....
For
whosoev
er shall
call upon
the name
of the
Lord
shall be
saved."
Dear
friend, if
you are
willing to
believe
on the
Lord
Jesus
Christ for
salvation,
please
pray with
me this
simple
prayer:
Heavenly
Father, I
realize
that I am
a sinner
and that I
have
done
some bad
things in
my life.
For
Jesus
Christ
sake,
please
forgive
me of my
sins. I
now
believe
with all of
my heart
that
Jesus
Christ
died for
me, was
buried,
and rose
again.
Lord
Jesus,
please
come
into my
heart and
save my
soul and
change
my life
today.
Amen.
If you
believed
in your
heart that
Jesus
Christ
died on
the
cross,
was
buried,
and rose
again,
allow me
to say,
congratul
ations on
doing the
most
important
thing in
life and
that is
accepting
Jesus
Christ as
your Lord
and
Saviour!
