My OJT Narrative Report

On-the-job training (OJT) is one of the best training methods
because it is planned, organized, and conducted at the
employee's worksite. OJT will generally be the primary method
used for broadening employee skills and increasing
productivity. It is particularly appropriate for developing
proficiency skills unique to an employee's job - especially jobs
that are relatively easy to learn and require locally-owned
equipment and facilities. This is one method by which
students is given a chance to apply the theories and
computations that they have learned from the school. It also
helps the students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by
performing in actual work setting. Colleges and universities
require their students to undergo such training within a
specific number of hours as part of the curriculum.
My classmates Chriszel Joy Magsambol, Jasmin Santillan,
Kristina Tamio, Jan Elvin Villarubia and I were oriented by
Maam Etzie the Human Resource Assistant last February 21,
2011. She gave us the map of Bangko Mabuhay, the
attendance report where we are going to log in and out, the
date we are going to start the training, and the department
where we were assigned. She explained to us the rules and
regulation for the trainees such as to always follow the
instructions of the superiors, the type of clothes to wear and
the different facilities that can be used by the trainees.
March 23, 2011 - Wednesday, was my first day as a trainee.
On the way to the bank at Tanza, Cavite, I was very nervous.
Although I knew where I will be assigned and the name of my
immediate superior, I still do not have the idea how she looks
like, her attitude and the duties that I will do with her.
I arrived early and I saw my classmates at the back of the
bank where the employees enter. We logged our time- in
outside the Human Resource Department and went to our
designated department. Chriszel was assigned at the
Information Technology Department but was later transferred
to the Microfinance Department; Jasmine was assigned at the
Loans Department; Kristina was assigned at the Human
Resource Department; Elvin was assigned at the Customer
Service; and I was assigned at the Executive Office with
Maam Maranatha Mara Bunda, the executive secretary.
When I entered the Executive Office, I greeted Maam Mara
and Kuya Ichie, the janitor Good Morning and introduced
myself. Aside from the orientation made by Maam Etzie,
Maam Mara oriented me on what I am going to do and she
toured me inside the Executive Office. She taught me how
answer telephone calls, how to transfer telephone calls to
other department, and how to give fax tone to the caller.
Maam Mara told me that the General Manager Sir Edwin Fojas
was out of town on two (2) months vacation leave and the
Compliance Officer Sir Basil Perea was on a seminar, but will
be reporting at the bank after two (2) days. I learned on that
first day that I have to be very patient especially in answering
phone calls.
On the first week of my training, I always made mistake. I was
confused and passed the caller on the wrong department;
sometimes I asked Maam Mara the local number on loans
department even though I had the map on my side where I
can refer from every time there is a phone call; and there was
a time when I gave papers/documents to wrong department. I
was so nervous because I knew that Maam Mara was angry at
that time. While waiting for the time out, I said Im sorry to
Maam Mara for what I have done earlier. I did not clearly hear
the name that she told me and I did not asked it again before I
left the office. I was not yet familiar with the names of the
employees/officers in the bank and their local numbers. She
forgave me and told me to look first at the map to be familiar
with the local numbers. I decided then to memorize the local
numbers and names of the employees of Bangko Mabuhay so
I no longer made mistakes and no longer interrupt Maam
Maras works.

As I promise to myself, I memorized all the names of

employees and local numbers even their positions. The day
passed by, I no longer use the map.
There was also a time when the executive office had another
on-the-job training (OJT) student. Maam Mara told me to
teach Ezperanza Ezpie Custodio, OMT student in PUP how to
use the telephone and how to transfer phone calls. I also
toured her inside executive office to be familiarized with the
room and equipment.
Once when Maam Mara was on leave, Sir Basil taught me to
use the computer and printed some files for him. I typed the
table of content of the documents. Sometimes other
employees in the bank asked me to scan documents and send
them to the other branch of Bangko Mabuhay like Mamburao,
Occidental Mindoro, Naic, Cavite and Indang, Cavite.
When we were nothing to do in the office, Maam Mara told
me to go to another department so that I can learn from other
employees. She will just call me if there will be some papers
to be given to other department.
I was also assigned by Sir Basil to produce photocopies of
some documents and type the name of the bank on top
portion. Although I did not know yet how to operate the
copying machine and the typewriter, I was able to accomplish
the task through the help of my co- trainees.
I really enjoyed my on-the-job training at Bangko Mabuhay. I
learned the basic office works, importance of productivity, the
operation of common office equipment and facilities, the
standard office rules and procedures and most of all the
pleasant officers-employees relationships. All the good
experiences, knowledge, skills and camaraderies I acquired
during my OJT at Bangko Mabuhay will be most cherished and
I am ready to put into practice once I graduated and then
employed.
Acknowledgment is wholeheartedly extended to all employees
of Bangko Mabuhay but most of all to Maam Maranatha
Mara Bunda, the Executive Secretary, my mentor.
Introduction
On-the-Job-Training or OJT is job training that occurs in the
work place. Itis part of a college curriculum that aims to train
and orient students about the work and their future career. It
is very important not only to teach students their
chosencareer but to show students the reality about
working.Students should not take OJT for granted because if
you will get a highevaluation grade, your employer might hire
you when you graduate. Your background OJT is very
important when applying for a job. Oftentimes, employerswill
ask you the relevance of your training to your course and to
the position youare applying for. It will be your training
ground. If you still have no idea on what ismeant to be a
worker, OJT will give a hint of career realities. Your OJT
superior might as well recommend your skills to other
companies whom he knows. It will give you a sense of
confidence that you can use when applying for a job after
graduation and also help you to make career choices.Students
should realize the importance of OJT on their future career.
Havinga good performance during OJT is very important
especially now that there's atight competition towards job
seekers and the high qualification of companies.
Conclusion
At the end of the on-the-job training period, we experienced
many thingsand learned from it. We gained knowledge about
the work in a radio broadcastingcompany. We learned how
competition happens among radios stations, their strategies,
on how to conduct a survey, how to please the listeners, and
we alsolearned how to operate a board in a DJ booth. It is very
important to learn thesethings because these are the things
essential for us to know about this kind of work.Throughout

the training, we experienced dealing with different kind of

people around us, with the listeners, bosses and most
especially with our co-workers. It is important to a group of
workers to have camaraderie so that they canwork well and

attain their goal.Through this OJT, I saw the difference when

you are in school and in thereal world. Most of the time you
just learn theoretically in school while in realworld, you
actually experience and apply what the trainers taught to you.
