Your research methods used:

Is it qualitative or quantitative?

How will data be collected and analysed?

Choose and explain why have you chosen that particular methods?

What are the advantages and limitations of the research methods used?
Problem Statement: To determine whether the social media is a source of moral decadence in
society today.

Objectives
1. To compare the extent of the use of social media vis a vis traditional media in society
today.
2. To establish if the information on the social media trustworthy, and if it can be controlled
or used for surveys
3. To determine the long term impact on societys dependence on social media and future
trends

My research method would be experimental and therefore quantitative research would be

effective for my study. My problem statement has not been proved and therefore one can argue
for or against it. The intention is to carry out this study throughout the metropolitan towns in
Kenya considering the extensive geographical coverage hence the option of using quantitative
research method.
Data collection would be manual through the use of questionnaires whose responses would be
coded and numerical data analyzed using the Microsoft SPSS package for analysis. My
instrument (the questionnaire) will be set in such a way that it would determine the results that I
intend to achieve. I need to prove that social media is a source of moral decadence in society
today.

I chose the experimental method of research because my study is meant to establish whether the
social media is a source of moral decadence in society. The social media is a dependent variable
whereas moral decadence is an independent variable. In my quest I intend to prove this fact and
therefore I would focus my data collection in the relevant areas. I would identify places where I
could get numbers supporting my opinion and randomly select a population of persons affected
by this scenario then work on getting my data.
The experimental method of research would make my hypothesis have enough data to prove
viable. It also does not work on assumptions and therefore does not give space for respondents to
offer false information.
Quantitative research gives me a chance to give credential information that has been tested
beyond reasonable doubt. However, this type of research is very expensive and would take a long
time to have my results. I will need the help of data collectors and a trained statistician to be able
to achieve the findings from analyzing the data collected.
The quantitative methodology will allow for me to acquire information from a large population
and identify the cause and effect relationship from the data collected and with the numbers and
inferences used evaluation would become easier. This study would however limit my findings to
generalizations and singular opinions would not be put into major consideration. To my
disadvantage if an opinion is not popular then it will be identified but not used.
