its more that the events of the film depict the first time humanity
came into contact with The Warp (fan theory wise)

Alright, now I want a Warhammer 40k movie but with actual British
cockney accent actors to play orks. What I would give to see orks
screaming a waaagh while the space marines just now em down.

Ah yes the Gellar field. Really nice... When it doesn't break down
mid-warp

There was a dead space movie though. Don't remember how good it
was, but it was certainly watchable for someone unfimilair with the
series.
Dead Space: Downfall Western animated, very gory, but 6.3 on imdb
for a video game movie is good in my book.

That movie was stationed right before dead space one, it somewhat
showed the whole infection over all of the ishimura.
permalink
rokon
Yeah, still was a good watch IMO, although it doesn't carry much
weight since I really don't partake in the games.

So I watched event horizon for the first time last night since
everyone says its scary and awesome... I got a dead space vibe
from it, but didn't think it was that great. I liked the idea of the ship
going to hell, but they didn't really show the hell part of it much.
Just split second flashes of crazy people at most. Maybe it's a
generational thing, like it was scary for its time, but I didn't think it
was that great (tho it was still a decent movie). I really want to
appreciate it tho, if anyone can explain why it's so highly
recommended ?

I saw it randomly a few years ago and it's what a lot of mainstream
films want to be. Great movie.

Cube

YES! They had NOTHING for a budget, kinda like clerks, so you
make up for a lack of busy sets and FX with content. Cube is great,
Cube 2 is passable and Cube: Origin (I think that's the title) is great.
They did what Saw did well before Saw, love the films.
permalink
rokon
I love any movie that does a lot with a little. Cube and the sequels
basically has one main set, and uses it over and over again in clever
ways. Great stuff.

I was shocked to find our Michael Mckean played one of the main

Yes, Eden Log definitely. Even starts out basically the same way.
'Hey, I just woke up, where the hell am I... WHO the hell am I?'

It's more that aggregates are not reviews. They're just judgments
on what 'most critics' say. A niche film will therefore do badly,
whereas broad-appeal bread-and-butter stuff will overperform.
I mean, IMDB and metacritic aren't much different, either. That's
how broad-appeal stuff like Shawshank Redemption trumps much
better films (because what you think of as much better will depend
on taste, and taste does not come across as strongly in aggregates).

permalink

That's the other side of the same coin. Fanboys and tasteless tweens
will inflate a shit film into a mediocre score on IMDB... While RT
critic scores can bury a "solidly-fair" or "awesomely bad: film.
Weighed against each other, you have a good chance of weeding out
the garbage and spotting the surprises.

I wish Ben Foster had some bigger roles recently, he had a good
amount a few years ago but I haven't seen him in too much since.
He made this movie for me.
permalink
I really like foster and get excited when I see him in a film
permalink
rokon
Yeah, I remember seeing him for the first time when Hostage came
out and he was crazy in that film, he does a great job with villains.
30 days of night and 3:10 to Yuma are my favorite with him.

He seems like he's always about to break out into full psychopath to
me. the conviction in his eyes and his body movements are intense.
His performance in 3:10 to Yuma was down right amazing. He's
done a lot of other great stuff too.

Pretty sure they are hinting that event horizon was in the same
universe as pandorum. When they talked about how one captain led
his entire crew to their death because he thought the mission was
cursed.
permalink
rokon
I haven't seen the movie in a few years, but wasn't there a scene
shown about the crew that killed each other because of pandorum?
permalink
rokon
In Event Horizon they show the ship that they are sent to rescue,
but it is not stated nor implied that it is pandorum that causes what
you see.

I liked this movie, but didn't care for Event Horizon. It was also one
of those movies in the theater where they kept making jarring loud
sounds after long silence to make you jump. You didn't jump
because you were scared, you jumped because it hurt your ears that
had adjusted for the quiet. I almost walked out on that movie.

out during the last part of the movie and don't remember anything,

I watched it, and I really wanted to like it all the way through, but
the movie stops being good/interesting about half or three quarters
of the way through. I'm not really sure what it was, maybe the
editing or how crazy the story got, or maybe that the movie just
couldn't decide what it wanted to be

cross match for Pandorum fans!
Then again, I did actually like both although in very different ways.

100 pages?
It's three volumes in English. Volumes 1+2 are both slightly over
100 pages each, and 3 is over 200 pages.
I guess the film is only based on Volume 1, though?
