Perpetuandi Course Processing and Evaluation 1

PERPETUANDI COURSE PROCESSING AND EVALUATION

April 15, 2010, Thursday

1. ORGANIZATIONAL LEVEL
a. General observations/experiences
i. Exposure and immersion activities offer a good venue for learning and
experiencing actual Salesian work to the perpetuandi
ii. Some were initially pessimistic due to familiarity of the Salesian settings but
eventually learned many new perspectives
iii. Whole-day sessions or activities were physically draining but fulfilling
iv. The meals were well coordinated and prepared=the brothers were impressed by
the different communities who offered them food
v. There was a good bonding between perpetuandi
vi. The programming of activities and scheduling were generally good. There was,
however, a suggestion: Have a ‘curfew’ of time limit in the evening: 9:15 pm

b. per setting/community

i. CYM – an enriching input was given by Ms. Dinvah Rasonabe; some brothers
were made to realize its important role in animating the youth activities of the
FIN province; it is a good model for provincial youth animation office
ii. MAYAPA – the apostolate area was very conducive for Salesian work,
immersion with the poor; however, the distance of travelling added to the
fatigue, plus Fr. Elmer was not able to give a general overview of the Salesian
apostolate in the said parish.
iii. SALESIANA PUBLISHERS AND WORD AND LIFE PUBLICATIONS – the brothers
were given a very good overview of the nature and structure of the Apostolate,
commendable personnel (lay and Salesians)
iv. SAVIO PARISH, MANDALUYONG – Salesians are doing a very important job for
the church; the ‘saw-saw’ was an eye-opener to the brothers especially as
regards working with the poor of the locality.
Suggestion: make a longer immersion=an overnight stay in one house/family in
the said locality.
v. TONDO – Don Bosco’s charism is being kept well; the brothers were made
aware of the people’s poverty and the need to provide for their spiritual
nourishment; however, the brothers had their most busy and tiring day
vi. TULOY SA DON BOSCO – working with the truly marginalized youth is very
enriching; it re affirms the brothers’ Salesian orientation. The impact the
exposure offered to the brothers was great

vii. YUPPEACE – knowing other lay collaborators is good and inspiring, enriching,
rejuvenating. The brothers learned that the lay people also hunger and thirst for
spiritual nourishment, even more than those in the Religious institute or clerical
state.

2. FEELING LEVEL (VARIOUS FEELINGS OF THE BROTHERS)

a. Admiration = towards the Lay (young or old) and the Salesians who both work for God
and His Church
b. Bothered = “Am I worthy?”
c. Challenged = there is indeed a need to prepare intellectually (have masters degree,
licentiate, etc.) and pastorally; always be updated
d. Consoled = since the apostolate is a communitarian effort; the community is an
assurance of validity of apostolate
e. Frustrated = not given a good backgrounder or overview of the apostolate area (esp. in
Mayapa)
f. Happy, Joyful = some brothers got to know those places for the first time; joy of being
used by God for something good; people were very friendly; Salesians are very
dedicated to their works; good to know that the Salesians have been very influential and
that many families have benefited from us.
g. Optimistic, Hopeful = for the marginalized youth
h. Personal Fear, Anxiety = of working with poor people; likewise of one’s own
incompetence; future is not yet defined
i. Proud = of c1onfreres in how dedicated and faithful they are to their Salesian identity
and mission
j. Sympathetic = esp. towards the community of Word and Life
