El 31 de agosto de 1888 apareci el cadver de la primera de las

cinco vctimas que se le atribuyen al criminal ms famoso de la
historia. Que nunca se le atrapase y la aparicin de otros
cadveres con un modus operandi similar, ponen en tela de

cinco vctimas atribudas a Jack el Destripador. Es necesario sealar que durante el periodo
de actividad de Jack, se produjeron en Whitechapel hasta un total de 11 asesinatos
que compartan ciertos patrones: las vctimas eran prostitutas, los cadveres aparecan
mutilados y el ensaamiento era tal, que los investigadores de la poca se plantearon que
todos hubieran sido cometidos por la misma persona.
Quin fue Jack el Destripador?
A Jack el Destripador se le considera responsable de la muerte de cinco mujeres en 1888
conocidas cmo las vctimas cannicas: Mary Ann Nichols (31 de agosto), Annie
Chapman (8 de septiembre), Elizabeth Stride y Catherine Eddowes (30 de septiembre),
y Mary Jane Kelly (9 de noviembre). Los cadveres de todas ellas, excepto el de Stride,
aparecieron con la garganta rajada de izquierda a derecha, el abdomen abierto en canal, los
rganos sexuales mutilados y les haban sido extrados el tero, el estmago o los intestinos.
Todas ellas sufrieron tambin la desfiguracin del rostro.
Existe la creencia de que en el caso de Stride, alguien interrumpi a Jack el Destripador, que
se vio obligado a dejar incompleta su obra, motivo por el cual, apenas una hora despus,
asesinara a unas manzanas de distancia a Catherine Eddowes. El doble asesinato del 30
de septiembre fue el que realmente elev al estrellato a Jack el Destripador.
El 16 de octubre de 1888 George Alkin Lusk, presidente del llamado Comit de Vigilancia de
Whitechapel, recibi en su domicilio un peculiar paquete. En su interior encontr medio
rin humano conservado en formol, y una misiva titulada From Hell (Desde el infierno), en
la que Jack el Destripador espetaba: Le envo la mitad del rin que saqu de una
mujer. La otra mitad la fre y me la com, estaba muy buena. Puedo mandarle el cuchillo
ensangrentado con que lo saqu slo si espera un poco. Firmado. Atrpame si puedes.

Durante el periodo en que se cometieron los terribles crmenes, tanto Scotland Yard como los
rotativos londinenses recibieron multitud de cartas annimas atribuyndose la autora
de los asesinatos y diciendo ser Jack el Destripador. En una de ellas, entregada el 27 de
septiembre de 1888 a la Agencia Central de Noticias de Londres y dirigida al jefe de la polica
londinense, el supuesto homicida acu el pseudnimo con el que entrara a formar parte de
los anales de la historia ms srdida de la capital inglesa: Mi cuchillo es tan bonito y afilado
que quisiera ponerme a trabajar ahora mismo si tengo la ocasin. Buena suerte.

Destripador, y que nunca se tuvieron las pruebas suficientes para
demostrar y atribuir la autora de los asesinatos a una sola persona; a
