Genesis and Evolution

Periyar Maniammai University has its origin since 1988, started as an Engineering college.
Considering its academic excellence in teaching, research and extension programmes, the Government of India / MHRD had
conferred the Status of University in the year 2007 under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

Sprawling on a generous 216 acres encompassing state-of-the-art infrastructure, this eco-friendly campus emphasizes a clean
and green environment practicing Zero Carbon Measures that contribute towards sustainable development.
The Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science and Technology Trust has in its ambit a number of colleges, schools, technical
institutes and polytechnic college.

PMU is situated in Vallam, Thanjavur District in Tamil
Nadu, the state known for its progressive and world
class education.

The University is situated at 10 km towards west from

Thanjavur and 45 km on the east from Tiruchirappalli
Tiruchirappalli has an international airport well connected
by domestic and international flights.

the Indian Innovation Growth Programme a joint initiative of DST,

Industry; Stanford Graduate School of Business and the
IC2 Institute at the University of Texas.

The major activities of the centre are Placement, Training and University - Industry co-ordination.
In 2013, 85% of the students are placed through on / off Campus, a regular feature of the University.
Soft Skills Training including Communication & Personality Development and aptitude training are offered to all right from the first
year.
Coaching given for GATE, TANCET, GRE, GMAT, IELTS, TOEFL etc. for students aspiring for higher studies and employment.
Compulsory In-Plant Training for 15 days, 21 days and 60 days for I year, II year and III year respectively assigning due credits.
