I.

Introduction

I.1 Background

Students are the future generation who will eventually assume responsibility for the
success of national development and promote the nation and state. In this era of globalization
and free trade world, a developed industry with a professional workforce is
needed. Therefore, Indonesian students are required to work hard in their studies so that they
can be qualified professionals in every field.
Chemical Engineering Department is one department in the University of Sultan
Ageng Tirtayasa(UNTIRTA) Cilegon whose area of expertise is the management and
provision of energy, in which students are trained and given the insight to be able to manage
and provide good energy made from raw non-fossil or fossils.
Chevron Indonesia is one of the world-class companies that processes crude oil and
natural gas in various parts of the world including in Indonesia by using advanced technology
that produces up to 40% of crude oil start from Sumatra to East Kalimantan. Until now
Chevron Indonesia has become one of the largest energy producers in Indonesia with regards
to environmental sustainability and people-around empowerment.
The growth and development of industry in Indonesia have caused higher demand for
energy. To support the necessary development and technological advances, especially
technological process to produce large-capacity, environment-friendly, renewable and not
renewable energy, Students are expected to engage further in efforts on developing better
technology through research and providing a climate conducive to the development of
technology. Furthermore, it can result in the ideas and innovations that benefit not only the
nation but also the world's technology industry. Industrial and academic world have a very
important role in the development and technological innovation. Moreover, they should be
consistent and mutually supportive to achieve that goal. Students, not only as the subjects in
this process but also

as elements having academic environment, intellectual spirit and

capability, are expected to contribute significantly to the development of technology

processes in industry. Therefore, it is imperative that students get the chance to train their
analytical ability, experience the real industry and apply the theories theyve got in college by
conducting practical work in industries related to subjects studied in college.

I.2 Rationale
1. With this practical work, students are expected to develop creativity in the
workplace and independence.
2. In order to meet the curriculum courses in the Chemical Engineering
Department, University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa.
3. Tri Darma University namely: education, research, and community service.
4. Necessary alignment between higher education systems and the world of
work.
5. Graduate course work practice in the department of Chemical Engineering
University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa.
I.3 Practical Work Objectives
1. To obtain a realistic picture about the application / implementation of science or
theory acquired through college and compare them with actual conditions in the field.
2. To learn and understand the system and to plunge into the company's work or
participate in the process.
3. To find out the productivity of the firm.
4. To Introduce and familiarize the real working environment to students so that they
can build a good work ethic, as well as efforts to expand the horizons of insight.
5. To comprehend and understand the process of the actual processing of petroleum, it is
expected to enhance good relations between industry and education.
I.4 Benefits
1. For Higher Education
As additional references, especially regarding the development of process
technology and industry in Indonesia which can be used by those that require,
produce graduates who are qualified, experienced in this field and to foster
cooperation between academic and workplace environments.
2. For Companies
As an input for the company to determine company policy future.
3. For students
As an in-depth picture of the real world of work so that later students can be
expected to apply the knowledge gained in industrial activity.

II.4 Time Frame
Based on the academic calendar of UNTIRTA Semester 2012/2013 school year, then
this practical work proposed will take place from :

Implementation Phase
1. Implementation of this practical work will be divided into several phases of activity:
a. Directing the implementation of practical work by supervisor.
b. Implementation of Practical work in the field (the company).
c. Making reports and guidance statements.
d. Delivery of practical work in company reports.
2. In the process of implementation of the practical work in the field, the company has
the full authority of the education process of students, especially the absorption of
knowledge applicable in the company.
3. After the practical work completed the student must make a report guided by a
supervisor.

4. Practical work Assessment consists of two elements, namely the assessment of the
agency or company where the practical work is implemented and the Department of
Chemical Engineering UNTIRTA, which will be conducted by a faculty examiner.
Considering the stage of implementation set by the Department of Chemical
Engineering-UNTIRTA, the following table of practical work plan is given as
consideration for implementation in Chevron Indonesia Company.
