reference and identification.
Provide adequate equipment, machinery and manpower to carry out the concreting works.
Place concrete on designated locations using concrete pumps and / or crane assisted
concrete buckets.
Start concreting from a fresh location or a predetermined construction joint and continue
uninterrupted up to the next predetermined construction joint or to completion.
If concreting is to commence from a construction joint, roughen the joint before placing the
concrete when wire mesh is not available.
Place concrete from the lowest point to the final concrete level in one operation in
horizontal layers.
Compact concrete by mechanical vibrators. Ensure that concrete is worked into the corners
of the structural members.

Forms are using steel and are in 8-10 ft sections. Forms will be required to be cleaned and
oiled before use and to be inspected often
Vertical and horizontal alignment to be vital to the appearance of the barrier. The
Specifications require that the surfaces of the concrete vary by no more than 1/4 in. in 10
ft. This tolerance will be achieved if the forms are set true and straight.
Forms will be required to be tied to the grade either by a combination of stakes, braces, or
weights before the pour.
CONCRETE COMPOSITION, PLACEMENT, AND FINISHING
Concrete will be placed in the forms in at least two layers, each layer being vibrated as the
concrete is being poured.
The top of the barrier will be finished with a hand trowel, and the edges are chamfered or
beveled. Immediately following the removal of the forms, all fins and irregular projections
to be removed from all exposed surfaces. All cavities and holes from form ties and
honeycomb spots, broken corners or edges, and other defects are required to be thoroughly
cleaned, saturated with water, and carefully pointed and trued with mortar
JOINT
An expansion joint type A will be 5 ft before and after an inlet and 10 ft away from any bridge
piers or bents. There may be no more than 400 ft between type A joints.

SEALING
A double application of curing compound is required before the barrier is poured if the
barrier is placed next to a concrete pavement or base. All exposed surfaces of the concrete
median barrier to be sealed with a clear sealer.
Before application of the sealer, the surface of the median barrier to be thoroughly cleaned by
sandblasting. Final cleaning is done with compressed air free of water, grease, or other
foreign substances.
REFLECTORIZATION
All concrete median barriers to be reflectorized with wide angle reflectors as indicated on the
plans. These reflectors are glued to the barrier with a mastic.
DELINEATION
concrete barriers are delineated with type C construction warning lights and wide angle
reflectors as indicated on the drawing.
Wide angle reflectors used on temporary barriers are white on the right side of traffic and
yellow on the left side.
SIGNAGE AND LINE MARKING AT BARRIER
SIGNAGE, AND LONGITUDINAL LINE
MARKING
Contractor to be provide line marking adjacent to the concrete safety barrier to conform
with approved designated by the consultant as per mention in the drawing.
