Main steam system out of service.

2.0

3.0

Basis of Compilation
2.1

Nuclear system flow diagrams of 300MW Nuclear power plant, PCI-37SYC001-QNPP-45-JD.

2.2

Main Steam system drawing, PC1-175MS-501, 5030-45-5D, Rev. JD.

2.3

Turbine bypass steam system, PC1-37J11-002-CNPP-45-5D, Rev 2.

Initial Conditions
3.1

Related power supply, instrumentation and control power are normal for
instruments and equipment mentioned in Appendix A and B.

3.2

Compressed air system is operating normally.

3.3

Turbine turning gear is operating normally.

3.4

One circulating water pumps are in operation.

3.5

Reactor is at Hot zero Power (Mode 2).

3.6

Wide-range water level indications of both steam generators (SGs) are at 9.310.9m.

3.7

Main steam isolation valves (MSIVs) and their bypass valves are closed.

3.8

The drain valves upstream of MSIVs are opened to atmosphere. The motoroperated isolation valves upstream of SG atmospheric relief valves are open.
Atmospheric relief valves are set at auto mode. Their set point is the
corresponding to the value of SG secondary side pressure at SRC temperature
of 280C (82%).

3.9

System pressure before main steam isolation valve reaches to 5.5~6.45 MPa.

3.10

SSF system is in operation. In case if SSF pump is not available, MFW pump is
supplying water to SGs.

3.11

SG PORVs are at auto with the set point at 82% (6.32 MPa).

Precautions
4.1

Energize MSIVs, before the opening of its bypass valve SMS-V02A/B, and put
its control switches at "Closed" position.

4.2

Before main steam line warmed up, turning gear should be in continuous
operation.

4.3

When pipe after main steam isolation valve is warmed up and vacuum in
condenser is not established, drain after MSIV should be discharged to
atmosphere by using valve J010-V15 and J010-V16. After formation of
vacuum drain should be diverted to HPFT and put the valve J010-V05 in auto
mode.

4.4

Warming up of main steam lines should be performed slowly, heat up rate

should not exceed 3C/hr. The opening time of two bypass isolation valves
should be maintained same as for as possible, so that both the main steam
system pipes should be warmed up homogeneously.

4.5

Before the opening of the bypass valve of MSIV (SMS-V02A/B), open drain
valve SMS-V10 A/B to avoid water hammering.

4.6

Only when differential pressure before and after main steam isolation valve is
less than 0.2 MPa, the main steam isolation valve SMS-V01A/B can be
opened.

4.7

There should be no water hammering during main steamline warm-up.

Operation Steps
5.1

Putting system into service

5.1.1 System status preparation
a.

Confirm that all instrumentations of system as given in appendix

A "Main Steam System Instrumentation List", are put into
service, and operating normally.

b.

Confirm that equipment as given in appendix B "Main Steam

System Equipment Energized List" has been energized.

c.

Confirm that equipment status is in accordance with appendix C

"Check list for Main Steam System Valves Controlled in the
MCR".

d.

Confirm that status of secondary system is in accordance with

operation card Main Steam System Check List.

e.

Confirm that the solenoid valve of main steam isolation valve

has been energized.

37SOP-SEC-003
Rev. 0
Main Steam System

f.

Confirm that the secondary side pressure of steam generator

reaches 5.5~6.45MPa.

g.

Confirm that the drain valve before SMS-V10A/B is opened to

atmosphere and drain after MSIV have the following status:
Drain valves J010-V15 and J010-V16 are opened (drain
discharge to atmosphere) if vacuum in condenser is not
established.
Drain valve J010-V05 is on Auto and its upstream and
downstream valves J010-V01 and J010-V02 are opened and
drain is discharged to HPFT, if the vacuum in condenser is
established.

h.

MSR II stage reheater steam system piping has been drained.

i.

Confirm that operation of turning gear is normal.

j.

Start one gland steam condenser exhauster fan.

k.

Confirm that both MSIVs are at "Closed" position and green

light in MCR on respective panel is ON.

5.1.2 Main steam line warm-up after MSIVs (Nuclear power ~2%).
a.

Open the bypass valves of MSIVs SMS-V002A/B intermittently

to heat up the main steam line at a rate of 3C/min. After steady
pressure is established in the main steam pipes down stream of
bypass valve, fully open the bypass valves SMS-V002A/B of
MSIVs. Pay close attention to any abnormal change in
condenser inlet temperature, turbine High Pressure Cylinder
metal temperature. main steam system should not produce
sound due to water hammer, Monitor SG level.

b.

Close drain valve upstream of MSIVs (SMS-V10A/B).

c.

After main steam system piping has been warmed up and the
differential pressure before and after isolation valve is less than
0.2 MPa, open MSIVs SMS-V001A and SMS-V001B.

d.

Close bypass valves SMS-V002A/B after main steam isolation

valve has been opened fully.

e.

After heat-up of pipe, regulate from the local, the opening of

following drain valves from main steam pipe to sump:
Drain from main steam header pipe to sump

J010-V15, V16

Drain from bypass header pipe to sump

J011-V41, V42

5.1.3 Warm-up ejectors and gland seal steam supply pipes when nuclear
power reaches 2%.
a.

Ask local operator to slowly open main steam line isolation

valve J019-V03 for warm up of pipes.

b.

Ask local operator to completely drain lines downstream of

valve J019-V03 by opening drain valve J019-V16E to sump.
Close valve J019-V03 when the lines are completely drained.

c.

Drain main steam header and Turbine Bypass Steam system to

sump by opening valves J010-V15, 16 and J011-V41, 42
respectively.

5.1.4 Main steam drain switch-over operation

5.2

a.

Confirm that normal vacuum has been built up in the condenser.

b.

Confirm that drain valves J010-V05 (Drain control valve from main
steam header pipe to HPFT) and J011-V20 (drain control valve from
bypass header pipe to HPFT) are at "Automatic" position:

c.

Ask local operator to close the valves J010-V15, V16 (Drain

valve from main steam header pipe to sump) and J011-V41,
V42 (Drain valve bypass header pipe to sump) fully:

d.

Ask local operator to open isolation valves J010-V01, J010V02, J011-V19, and J011-V21 fully.

e.

Ask local operator to open isolation valves J010-V03, J010V04, J011-V22 and J011-V23 fully (isolation valves before and
after steam trap).

Taking System out of service

5.2.1 Confirm that turbine has been tripped and it is on turning gear operation
status.
5.2.2 Before the vacuum is broken, ask local operator to transfer main steam
system drain from HPDFT to sump.

5.2.4

a.

Close valves J010-V01, J010-V02, J011-VI9, V011-V21, J010V03, J010-V04, J011-V22 and J011-V23.

b.

Slightly open drain valves from main steam header pipe and
bypass header pipe to sump by opening valves J010-V15, V16,
J011-V41, V42

c.

Confirm that condenser vacuum drops to zero. Stop steam

supply to the shaft sealing system.

When main steam system pressure decreases to 5.5MPa:

a.

Close main steam isolation valves SMS-V001A, B.

b.
