Course Title

RNC Operation and Maintenance (RU10)

Target Group

For engineer who require hands on experience to perform operation and


maintenance tasks on NSN RNC (IPA2800)

Aim

After the training, the participant will be able to:


Verify radio network configuration.
Perform preventive maintenance tasks, e.g. safecopying, signaling
network monitoring, measuring long-period memory usage, units
diagnostic and inspection, etc.
Handle basic service terminal function and use specific extension for
RNC maintenance.
Replacing RNC plug-in units.
Monitoring RNC and units start-up.
Perform SW maintenance; CD upgrade and Release Upgrade.
Verify OMS setting and functionality.
Fault handling; find faulty unit(s), take recovery action, and create
trouble ticket.

Prerequisites

Good knowledge of 3G radio access networks and ATM technology


RNC Architecture and Functionality e-learning
PF1002:Switcing Platform Essentials and Administration or experience with
IPA2800 Platform

Explain tasks and functions of the RNC
Name the interfaces of RNC to other NEs
Explain RNCs architecture
List RNC units their function and redundancy
List different RNC configurations and their capacity
Explain Hardware Management System
Describe data flows for Iu-Cs and Iu-Ps
RNC Preventive Maintenance
Perform safecopying and backup copying
Verify RNC Interfaces and DCN working state
Monitor signalling network
Monitor unit processor and memory load
Perform unit diagnostic and inspection
Use command calendar to perform O&M related tasks
Service Terminal for RNC O&M
Handle service terminal extension
Use suitable extension for the following tasks
RNC and units startup monitoring
Update HMS node SW
Monitor units processor load
Replacing RNC units
Practice Health and Safety requirement in handling RNC and RNC
units
Practice quality control in handling RNC and RNC units
Correctly replace and change RNC units as well as OMU and OMS
Hard disk
Interrogate RNC equipment database and cross check with site
documentation
Successfully bring up new units, including update Boot and HMS node
if needed
RNC and Units Start-up Supervision

Identify the order of units in RNC start-up


Monitor unit start-up phases in Chorus units
Monitor unit start-up phases in DMX units
RNC SW Maintenance
Perform CD installation
Recover old SW if CD installation fails
Perform SW upgrade
Roll back RNC to older SW version
Fault Management
Understand RNC fault management functionality; supervision, alarms,
recovery and diagnostic
Read RNC alarm and find information to handle the alarm
Carry out recovery action, including taking back backup copy
Perform units testing and inspection
Create RNC problem report
OMS Maintenance
Verify functionality of OMS, including Application launcher
Modify entries in setting and registry
Explain HW/SW architecture of OMS and its applications
Download OMS tools from Network element and setup own PC
Identify usage of various Element Manager Applications
Use RNW Object Browser and MML window for FLM tasks
Interogate the CoCo and WBTS, WCELL states
Create and delete CoCo
Backup OMS
Restore OMS from OMS backup
