1.0PURPOSE
This document provides a method statement in establishing a
comprehensive and detailed methodology and other requirements for earthworks
in accordance with the contract specifications and in conformity with approved
plans and drawings
2.0SCOPE OF WORK
2.1 General Description
This construction method statement provides a detailed methodology and
proper sequence to be adopted in earthworks including pre-construction survey,
clearing and grubbing, removal of structures and obstructions, hauling out of
unsuitable materials, excavation, subgrade, backfilling and compaction including
the utilization of earth moving equipment and tools, materials and workforce
necessary to accomplish this specific item of work in conformance with the
requirements and specifications of the contract.
The scope of this work method involves pre-construction survey works to
determine original ground data and covers clearing, grubbing, removing and
disposing all vegetation and debris as designated in the Contract. All surface
objects (within at least 300mm depth) and all trees, stump, roots, organic matter
and other protruding obstructions, not designated to remain shall be cleared
and/or grubbed, including mowing as required. Buildings, fences, structures, old
pavements, abandoned pipe lines and any obstruction which are not planned to
remain shall also be removed and disposed properly.
Excavation works shall be finished to reasonably smooth and uniform
surfaces. Backfilling works shall follow from a prepared subgrade already
stripped and cleared of all vegetation and debris and the required backfilling
works made up of satisfactory materials which passes the requirements and
specifications of the Contract. There shall be a minimum 300mm compacted
layer covering the full stretch of the area being compacted and it shall
subsequently pass Field Density Testing (FDT)at 95% of the established
laboratory MDD (Maximum Dry Density) as specified in the plans.

Remarks
Note: The number and quantities of above equipment and plant will be
determined to suit the contract program.
2.3 Materials
Embankment materials shall be constructed of suitable materials
acceptable in accordance with the contract requirements and specifications and
may consists of common material or rock.
Unsuitable materials not to be incorporated in the works shall be
discarded and disposed accordingly out of the site premises. Such materials
may contain detrimental quantities of organic origin like grass, roots and
sewerage.
2.4 Site planning & preparation
A pre-construction survey jointly undertaken with the SLPGC
representatives shall be undertaken to determine the extent and limits of the
project. Benchmarks, tie points and other references shall be
established as a
future reference in determining the required lines and grades.
Existing structures shall be removed wholly while salvaged materials as
determined upon shall be safe-keep and stored as directed. This shall be used in
construction of temporary facilities.
Prior to backfilling works, all necessary clearing and grubbing in that area
shall have been completed in conformity with contract plans and specifications.

All backfills shall contain no muck, peat, sod, roots or other deleterious
matter. Rocks, broken concrete or other solid, bulky materials shall not be placed
in embankment areas where piling is to be placed or driven.
Approved backfill materials shall be sourced out from Local Quarry site
and all unsuitable materials shall be hauled out of the construction site.
