INTRORUCTION
In the past decade there had been a tremendous
increase in the yields of various crops to meet the
demand of overgrowing population, achieved by using
pesticides and insecticides. These chemicals that are
sprayed over crop to protect it from pests . for
example,DDT,BHC
,ZINC,posphide,mercuric,chloride,dinitrophenol,etc.all
pesticides are proven to be effective against variety
of insects , weeds and fungi and are respectively
called insec ticides . herbicides and fungicies . most
of the pesticides are non-biodegredr adable and
remain penetrated as such into plant, fruits and
vegitable. From plants they transfer to animals, bird
and hman beings who eat these pollute d fruits and
vegitables . inside the body they get accumulated
and cause se rious health problems. Thesdays
preference is given to biodegradable inse cticides like
malathion . the presence of insecticides residues in
even raw
sample of wheat , fish ,meat, butter, etc.
have aroused the concern of agricu ltural
administratiors, scientists and health officials all over
the world to put a cheak over the use of insecticides
and to search for non isecticidal means of pest
EXPERIMENT
Aim
To study the presence of insecticides or pesticides in
various fruits and vegitables.
Materials required
Mortar and pestle , beakers ,funnel , glass rod , filter
paper china disk , water bath , tripod stand , fusion
tube , knife, test tube.sample of various fruits and
vegetables , alcohal , sodium metal , ferricchloride ,
ferrous sulphate crystals , distilled water and dil ,
slfuric acid.
Procedure
Take different types of fruits and vegetables and cut
them into small pieces sparately. Transfer the cut
pieces of Various fruits and vegetables into it
separaely and crush them . take different kinds for
each kind of fruits and vegetables and place the
crushed fruits and vegetables in these beakers and
add 100ml of alcohal to each of these . stir well and
CONCLUSION
In conclsion , pesticide residues were found in all the
mon
itored fruits and vegetables sample from all
the selected markets from kumasi metropolis . in all ,
37.5% of fruits vegetables sample analyzed
cantained no vegetables level of the monitored
pesticides , 19.0% of the sample gave result with
levels of pesticide residues above the MRL , while
43.5% of the samples showed results below the
MRL . the above results suggest that the consumers
of the kumasi metropolitan city are exposed to
concertration of pesticides that may cause chronic
diseases . on the basis of the above findings , the
results recommend the need for continues survey
and monitoring programs for pesticides in all food
commodities in order to protect the end user for the
indiscriminate exposure of pesticides . a future study
in a longer period of time would allow obtaining a
deeper knowledge about the fulfillment of
vegetables poduced in Ghana with respect to the use
of pesticides and their presence in these fruits and
vegetable
