Courses include
Explore civil engineering concepts, contract
administration and construction practice. Youll gain a
solid understanding of water engineering, structural
engineering and road infrastructures, and perfect your
civil and structural drafting skills.
There is great demand for technically trained engineers
worldwide, in particular those with a specialisation, so
the diploma allows you to focus on one of three areas:
Structures the building of dams, bridges, high-rise
buildings, viaducts and wharves.
Fluids flood protection, harbour development,
erosion control, water reticulation, stormwater and
waste management.
Transportation the design, construction and
maintenance of roads, rail, sea and airport
developments.
Highlights
Unitec is the largest provider of technician civil
engineering training in New Zealand.
Supported by the civil engineering industry,
including the Institution of Professional Engineers
New Zealand (IPENZ).
A step towards IPENZ membership: once youve
gained a suitable period of work experience as
a qualified civil engineering technician, youll be
eligible for Associate Membership (AIPENZ).
Can serve as a pathway into graduate engineering
qualifications.

What next?
If youve successfully completed this programme,
youll be eligible to apply for cross-credits into the
Bachelor of Engineering Technology (Civil) or Bachelor
of Engineering (Civil).
Highlights
A nationally-led engineering qualification developed
by six of New Zealands largest institutes of
technology and polytechnics (ITPs).
Approved under a new New Zealand-wide framework
for three-year engineering technology degrees.
Accredited by the Institution of Professional
Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ). On completion of
this programme, combined with a period of work
experience, youll be eligible to apply for membership
of IPENZ as a Technical Member (TIPENZ).
Four different pathways: structural engineering,
water engineering, geotechnical engineering or
roading and transportation engineering.
Strong links with the engineering industry.
Small classes: the average class size is just 35-60
students.
Cross-credits from the New Zealand Diploma in

Our stunning Te Noho Kotahitanga Marae is at the
heart of the Mt Albert campus part of the site where
the Ngati Awa people settled. Its where students,
staff and the community can gather, a place for
historical and local knowledge, and a centre for

Pacific Centre for Learning, Teaching
and Research
The Pacific Centre team provides academic,
personal and cultural support for all Pacific
students. Their services include study workshops,
financial advice, scholarship information, mentoring
and careers guidance. Feel free to use the drop-in
centre and computer facilities while youre there.
The Pacific Centre also supports postgraduate
students and Pacific research projects. They organise
Pacific Orientation activities, Fanau evenings and the
