James Twiddys lecture

Have you ever considered skipping a lecture? Perhaps you were tired; you hadnt
slept well the night before, it was your
last class of the day and you told yourself
it wouldnt really make a difference. Its
not like the teacher would notice one
less face in the crowd and cry about it
later. Perhaps you disliked the topic, or
you had something more exciting to do
with your friends.
These are only a few of the possible justifications the tiny devil perched on your
shoulder was whispering in your ear. If
you listened to it, however, andactuallyskipped a lecture, you should know
that this is what truly happened: your

Id and your Superego battled for dominance, and in the end, the more instinctual part of your personality won. You
chose pleasure and laziness over duty
(shame on you!).
So, heres what you missed out on during
the last lecture of November: according to Freud, our psyche is divided into
three parts. The Id is our primitive mind,
amoral1 and selfish, constantly striving
to fulfil its needs. The Superego, on the
other hand, is like an imaginary grumpy
parent dont do this, dont say that, you
cant, you shouldnt, youmust. In the
middle theres the Ego (you), trying to

Restaurant review
Being away from home is difficult. You
miss the comfort of your bed, your friends
and your family, but there is one thing
that will always be able to comfort you,
no matter where you are: food.
Some people may have found that English
food isnt exactly great. Now, I dont
want to offend an entire nation, whatever floats your boat1, but it can be quite
a disappointment for people among us
that arent used to the British cuisine.
To restore your faith in at least the British
part of humanity we will give you a restaurant/place to get delicious food recommendation every month.

find a balance between these two forces.

No pressure, right?
But does the Ego always succeed? And
what happens when it doesnt? What
about children and their impulses?
And what role, if any, do the Id and the
Superego play in our fears, our inner
narratives, our reactions to movies and
stories?
Also, how the heck does James (our local
Ron Weasley gone Slytherin) always find
the perfect creepy clip to traumatize us
with?
If the curiosity is killing you, you know
what to do: dont skip your next lecture!

that in their food. There is something for

everyone: hot dishes (chicken teriyaki,
sweet & sour chicken and sweet chili
chicken, etc.), fresh sushi dishes and side
dishes (fried prawns, vegetable spring
rolls and chicken dumplings). The prices
range from 8 pounds for hot dishes to 3
pounds for the side dishes, which makes
Kokoro a less expensive alternative than
Itsu, for example.
We would give Kokoro four stars, as the
food is delicious and affordable, however there are some downsides. The first
downside is that the meals sell out quickly, so if you come too late, youll risk
having no meals left. The second downside is that there isnt a lot of space to sit
inside. There are a few tables and a bar,
but those are occupied most of the time
as there are so many customers.

English expressions made better

As some of you might have experienced,
some teachers like to teach you English
expressions so that you will sound more
like a native speaker. Usually I wouldnt
mind, but some of them could very well
originate from the hunter-gatherer2 society. However, Im not one who complains without offering a solution (unlike
the people found in a YouTube comment
section). So heres three old expressions
made relevant and understandable:
on the warpath

Means something like preparing for a

confrontation or fight. The first use of
war path was to describe the path
Native Americans would take when

heading into battle. To make this more

relevant for us, I suggest something as
the walk to a progress test.
spill the beans

Means to accidentally reveal a secret.

Now this wouldnt make any sense unless you know what it references. It was
a voting system used in ancient Greece
involving black and white beans. Here,
votes had to be in complete agreement.
If the collector spilled the beans
before the vote was complete and differently coloured beans were seen, the
vote stopped. This is too obscure, so I
propose for it to be changed to leaving
your phone unlocked.

amoral (adj): without moral quality; neither moral nor immoral

hunter-gatherer (adj): surviving by hunting animals and gathering plants

bury the hatchet

Means to stop a conflict and make peace.

Another expression referring to Native
Americans. When tribes made peace,
they would bury weapons such as hatchets and knives. Today this expression is
just a silly-sounding attempt at conservation. Instead it should be unblock from
social media. Mainly since nothing
really says acceptance as tolerating the
status updates of your enemies.
So there you have it folks! Feel free to use
these gifts that I have provided for you.
You could see them as early Christmas
presents. Merry Christmas!

directions

First of all, if you choose bacon lardons

or vegetables for your quiche, make
sure that you fry them before including them in your recipe.
In a bowl, beat the egg with a fork or a
whisk and add the flour little by little.
Then add the milk and blend until you
get a smooth paste.
Mix in the bacon lardons/ham and
the cheese or the vegetables and add
salt and pepper
Put the mixture in a little flan dish,
a mould or a cup, and put it in the
microwave.

whatever floats your boat: idiomatic expression for do/like whatever makes you happy

Switch on for around 15-20 minutes

at 900W. If you can, use the grill
mode of your microwave for the last
10 minutes.
Advice: You can use vegetables or whatever you like instead of ham and cheese!
Be creative!
You can eat this delicious quiche with a
salad. Enjoy!
Be careful: Please guys, no metallic
things in the microwave!

The short story

There was a garden. A wonderful garden with magnificent flowers in every
single color you could ever imagine. The
sky was bluer than Id ever seen before
and the verdant grass tickled my bare
feet. I could hear the soothing3 murmur
of a river and the intriguing sound of
someone singing a familiar song.
Curious as I was I could not help myself:
I had to follow the sound. As I walked
through the colorful garden, I could feel
nothing but joy. I passed a field of crimson roses. I skipped through a pathway
surrounded by blooming dahlias. I stopped shortly by a cherry blossom tree to
marvel at its beauty. I even passed by a

group of lily of the valley before I finally reached the river I had been looking
for. It was completely filled with white
lotus flowers. You finally found me, my
starshine. I looked up from the river and
saw her standing there, just next to an
oak tree. She was wearing a white dress,
a stark contrast to her dark skin, and her
black hair lay beautifully down to her
waist. She was so beautiful that I almost
started crying. Mom
