Siemens Cloud for Industry

Open cloud platform for digital service business

Siemens Cloud for Industry is an important part of Siemens
Digital Enterprise strategy. Clients include machine manufacturers that are able to use the platform to develop and
offer new digital services. Thanks to the readily available
machine data, they are able to monitor their machine fleets
all over the world for service purposes and to reduce
downtime.
The new Connector Box of the open Siemens Cloud for
Industry platform plays a key role here. The Connector Box
is a Simatic IPC-based cloud gateway that enables easy and
secure capture of machine and system data and their transmission to the cloud. Data from the controls and drive
systems of a wide variety of suppliers are captured and then

made available for evaluation on the platform, which uses

SAP HANA Cloud Platform technologies. In the future, this
functionality will also be integrated into the Siemens portfolio of industrial communication products. Thanks to powerful web services for analysis, such as Visual Analyzer and
Fleet Manager, users can assess and optimize machine and
system states. They can also use Siemens Cloud for Industry,
which is designed as an open ecosystem, to develop web services themselves. These can be used as a foundation for their
own digital services, such as predictive maintenance, energy
data management, and resource optimization.

Siplus CMS1200 for Simatic S7-1200

Monitoring mechanical
components
To increase plant availability and therefore productivity, potential error sources must be detected early as a preemptive
measure and be taken into account when drawing up the
maintenance plan. The Siplus CMS1200 condition monitoring system is now available for the Simatic S71200 to monitor mechanical components. Significant changes for example, as a consequence of wear and tear can be detected
early, and problems can be remedied as they arise, before
they can cause any more damage.
As part of the Simatic S71200, the condition monitoring
s ystem is integrated into the automation group with the
TIAPortal engineering framework. Four IEPE vibration acceleration sensors and one rotational speed sensor can be
connected to one SM1281 module of the CMS1200. Up to
seven SM1281 modules can be used per CPU. The SM1281
includes the necessary analysis software, allowing the received signals to be easily evaluated and saved to the modules own internal storage. The signals can be analyzed
based on parameters, and frequency-selective analysis is
possible for exact damage diagnosis. It is also possible to
record the development of trends.

The Simotics reluctance motors are part of the Simotics
GP/SD motor family for converter operation. The change in
the torque of reluctance motors is caused by the standard
Sinamics G120 inverter, which has a special vector control
system for reluctance motors. It can be easily commissioned
with motor codes. One advantage of the highly dynamic reluctance motors is their energy efficiency: they are significantly more efficient in the partial-load range compared to
asynchronous motors with the same power. The low intrinsic moment of inertia enables short ramp-up times. Reluctance technology is used primarily in applications with
pumps, fans, and compressors, as well as for conveyor technology and in mechanical engineering.

Sinema Remote Connect

Easy remote access for

teleservice or telecontrol
With Sinema Remote Connect, Siemens offers a management platform for efficient and secured remote access to
plants and machines that are located all over the world. The
server application enables easy provision of remote services,
as well as the remote maintenance of machines and plants
and other remote applications such as condition monitoring.
To achieve this, all communication links are managed and
authorized. Sinema Remote Connect is especially suitable for
serial and special machine builders, as it can be used to
clearly identify and control a multitude of identical machines
that are located at different customers sites.
Sinema Remote Connect centrally manages the tunnel connections between control center, service engineers, and
installed plants using virtual private networks (VPNs). VPN
tunnel connections are based on OpenVPN standard certi
ficates and encrypted with up to 4,096 bits. Access to
machines can be granted from one centralized location with
the management platforms easy user-management function. Participants can be activated or blocked manually, so
that plant operators also always have full control over who
accesses their company network.
An additional advantage of Sinema Remote Connect is its
protocol-independent communication. This allows users to
employ different applications for remote maintenance for
example, the Simatic Step 7 programming software as
soon as the connection to the machine has been established.
The machines are connected to the management platforms
via wireless communication, DSL, or existing private network
infrastructures. For this purpose, Siemens offers a comprehensive portfolio of industrial routers from the Scalance

Sirius ACT/ID key-operated switch

Failsafe access
rights with RFID

To set up industrial plants, a service technician

needs more authorizations than a nonskilled
worker. The new RFID-based key-operated
switch from the Sirius ACT commanding and
signaling device portfolio uses modern
wireless technology to query access rights
without interference.

veryone has experienced this situation at the supermarket at one point: if an item is entered incorrectly,
the manager has to come with the appropriate key
and clear the register before the cashier can continue. In the
case of industrial plants, the necessary authorizations for
activating functions are more numerous and often security
related. Siemens has developed a key switch that for the first
time is based on a wireless link with radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology. The new ID key-operated switches
expand the Sirius ACT commanding and signaling devices
portfolio.

Unique identification
The ID key-operated switches are used in place of conventional switches in production facilities to allocate different
authorizations for switching the plant to different users.
Every involved employee needs his or her own special authorizations. For example, certain production equipment may
be switched on only by the shopfloor manager at the beginning of the shift, and this person also has all other authorizations. Only the service technician is allowed to set up the

basic plant functions, while a nonskilled worker is allowed

to operate the plant only in the simplest mode. For this
reason, every ID key has a unique number, so that every key,
and thus the person using it, can be clearly identified.
High reliability thanks to sophisticated technology
Dirt or water can get into mechanical key-operated switches
and destroy the electronics located behind the switch. In the
case of the ID key-operated switch, the switch and the key
are not coupled mechanically but are linked via a wireless
connection. The key has a type of built-in label, called a tag,
that is read by the transmitter unit of the switch. Both the key
and the switch are plasticcoated and do not come into contact at the wireless interface, so the electronics located inside
the switch are protected against external influences. An additional advantage over conventional keys is that the authorization levels of a key can be modified remotely. For example,
if a key (tag) is lost, it can simply be blocked, or access can
be restricted to specific time periods during the day.

Whether switching, protecting, starting, or monitoring,

the Sirius modular systemoffers a coordinated portfolio
of industrial controls that can easily be installed in
control cabinets and integrated into distributed systems.

AS-i SlimLine compact modules

Compact and quickly wired

The AS-Interface (AS-i) field bus is the ideal solution for application areas such as machine tool building and conveyor technology. AS-i can collect wide-ranging signals from sensors
and actuators in field networks and transmit them to the control level. The new AS-i SlimLine compact modules for use in
control cabinets replace the previous S22.5 and S45 SlimLine
modules. The series of new compact modules includes both
digital I/O modules and ASI-safe modules with safe inputs.
The innovation is available in the new 4DI/4DO models with a
width of only 22.5 mm and as 4DI and 2F-DI models with a
width of 17.5 mm. This makes them the smallest AS-i modules
in the world, needing very little space in the control cabinet
or in distributed control boxes. The sensors and actuators, as
well as the AS-i bus cable, are connected via removable,
spring-loaded connections that are either screwed in or
pushed in.
Thanks to the optionally available device connector, several
modules can easily be connected to pass the signal from the
AS-i bus cable and the current provided by the Uaux DC 24-V
power supply from one module to another. This reduces
wiring effort and enables fast and error-proof assembly,
saving time, material, and money. In addition, all devices have
a switchable sensor supply. Depending on the consumption,
the power for the sensors is supplied by either the AS-i bus
cable or the Uaux DC 24-V power supply. If the power is supplied by the Uaux, the wiring of the sensor connections
remains unchanged. An external power supply for the sensors
is therefore not necessary. All modules offer quick diagnostics on-site at the slave via LEDs on the front panel. Whether
plants are being installed for the first time, serviced, modified,
or expanded, the AS-i SlimLine compact modules, with their
narrow casing, set new standards.
